TBEX set up another tour around Ostrava in Czech Republic (Czechia). Click here to see the mining tour they set up:
The towns of Karvina and Orlova were all but destroyed after the land under them sank because of the mining operations taking place. It made the ground unstable so they had to move the whole towns to different spots where it was safer to live. Only one building still remains of Karvina. A leaning church that we got to explore and meet the creatures living in it.
They showed us a couple of the things they are doing to restructure the land that used to be unusable because of mining. This was a really unique tour.

1) Špilberk Castle
For over seven centuries, Špilberk Castle has dominated the skyline of Brno, a reminder of safety and protection it provided. However, there have been times in history of Brno when the fortress inspired fear, and represented oppression for the citizens of the city.
From a major royal castle and the seat of the Moravian margraves, it gradually turned into a huge baroque fortress, the heaviest prison in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and then a barracks. Today, Špilberk houses the Brno City Museum, and is one of the most significant cultural centres in Brno.
2) Brno Cathedral
St. Peter & Paul Cathedral (or just Petrov in Czech) is one of the most important showplace in Czech Republic and view point number one in Brno. It is also pictured on Czech ten Koruna coin.
3) Brno City Centre
Brno is known for its modernist buildings, like the restored Villa Tugendhat, completed in 1930 by architect Mies van der Rohe. Discover interesting buildings, sculptures, and streets in the city centre of Brno!

Slavkov u Brna (Austerlitz)
Slavkov u Brna (in German: Austerlitz), is a country town east of Brno in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic. Population: 5,900. The town is widely known for giving its name to the Battle of Austerlitz which actually took place some kilometers to the west of the town.
At the beginning of the 13th century, the Teutonic Order built a monastery stronghold whose remains can still be seen today in the vaults of the Austerlitz Palace. The first written testimony about the place date from 1237. The Czech name Slavkov is first documented in 1361, the German name Austerlitz in 1633 and is said to be a truncation of the Czech Novosedlice (Novosedlicz, Nausedlicz), which means new settlement, although this cannot be clarified definitively. After the dissolution of the Order, the town became the property of a number of noble owners until, in 1509, the local gentry family of Kaunitz assumed control for more than 400 years.
In this film, one can see the Baroque Slavkov Castle which has 115 rooms and an impressive garden in the French style. The Palace was designed by Italian architect Domenico Martinelli. In its salon, an armistice was signed between Austria and France after the battle of Austerlitz on 2 December, 1805.

Once you exit Brno’s central train station you will already find yourself in the heart of the old town, so all the main city centre sights such as the cathedral are within an easy five to ten-minute walk.
Located on Petrov Hill, the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul dominates the Brno skyline.
This 14th century cathedral is an interesting mix between the Gothic architecture of its exterior and the fine Baroque interior.
Right below the cathedral you can find the pleasant Denis Gardens (Denisovy Sady).
Just like the cathedral, Spilberk Castle is located on the top of a hill overlooking the entire city of Brno, so if you are after some fine views this is the place to go.
Spilberk Castle was completed in the 13th century ... and primarily used as a royal residence.

Here one can see the synagogue which was built in the mid nineteenth century and has been maintained since the murder of the Jewish population nearly seventy years ago. it was renovated in 1998. After the battle of Austerlitz, a French officer went to the synagogue and requested that a rabbi said the prayer for the dead.

MEET MY FAMILIES? PALAVA - SOUTH MORAVIA, CZECH REPUBLIC. Mikulov, Valtice, Lednice and ZOO Sedlec
Hi guys,
We drove 3 hours away from home to spend 3 days 2 nights at Pálava in South Moravia, Czech Republic. This trip was very special trip because we were not alone. Martin's mom, niece and nephew joined us and it was such a fun trip.
The Pálava Protected Landscape Area is a protected landscape area and a UNESCO biosphere reserve located in the South Moravian Region in the Czech Republic, on the border with Austria. The highest point is Děvín with its 550 metres (1,800 ft) a.s.l.
This unique area was originally recognized by UNESCO in 1986 and expanded in 2003 to include another UNESCO site, the Lednice–Valtice Cultural Landscape. Pálava PLA is dominated by the limestone Pálava Hills (part of the outer Western Carpathians), and contains a significant proportion of natural or little affected steppe ecosystems that include meadow steppe, forest steppe, and thermophilic oak forest. In the floodplain of the river Thaya, forests alternate with meadows and wetland habitat that also include halophytic vegetation. The remaining part of Pálava PLA is used agriculturally, with many sustainably farmed vineyards that are a part of the Mikulovská wine subregion.
Pálava PLA contains well preserved monuments of historical significance, such as the Paleolithic site in Dolní Věstonice where the Venus of Dolní Věstonice was discovered. The largest town in Pálava PLA is Mikulov, located in its southernmost part.
