Today I'm taking you to Meghalaya which means abode of clouds This one has my ❤️ India is a land full of rivers. 1.Dawki river is actually one of the cleanest in the world. The water is green and crystal clear. The river seperates India and Bangladesh. It has a 90 year old suspension bridge where I’m standing :)) Don't you feel the boats appear to be floating on an invisible glass surface? A boat ride is a must when you visit Dawki! Meghalaya is full of beautiful waterfalls. And this one for sure caught all my attention. 2.Phi Phi falls is located in the west Jantia hills.Isn't it gorgeous? Which ia the most beautiful waterfall you've seen? Next we go to: 3. The living root bridges! These are suspension bridges made by shaping the roots of trees. Created by the people of the Khasi tribe, these roots grow from the ancient rubber trees, seen only in the northeast region. These roots are trained by the Khasis to grow in such a manner as be in the form of bridges on the top of a river. The most popular tourist attraction of Cherrapunjee, these double decker living root bridges are 2 bridges that are stacked one on the other, made because of the entanglement of roots. Climbing down 3200 steps was worth it! Next is: 4. The Wei Sawdong Waterfall.The route to the bottom of the waterfalls is mostly bamboo bridges, stairs, and mud. It is extremely dangerous so be sure to wear proper trekking shoes. When wet, the bamboo is slippery so a hiking stick may help. I was super scared but the view was breathtaking. I'm in love with all the waterfalls here. Next I'm taking you to the most unique village ever. 5. Kongthing village also called as the whistling village here the residents have three names: a regular name, a distinct melody and a shorter tune that is akin to a nickname. Each villager here has a distinct tune as his/her name that came stright out of their mothers heart a she held them in her arms. What melody would you name your best friend as? Another unique gem Meghalaya hold is: 6. The Sacred forestWhat is a sacred or holy or blessed place for you?? The people of Meghalaya hold their forests as sacred and holy. You cannot take or leave behind anything in the forest. Leave only footprints and take back only memories they say. They worship their trees and forests. What if we, like them worshipped all of nature?? Wouldn't the world be a more beautiful place?!!!

Top 10 SHILLONG: Shillong is a hill station in northeast India and capital of the state of Meghalaya. It’s known for the manicured gardens at Lady Hydari Park. Nearby, Ward’s Lake is surrounded by walking trails. North, the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures features displays on the region’s native people. Waterfalls include the Elephant Falls to the southwest. East of here, forested Shillong Peak offers city views.
1.Shillong Peak: At the height of 6449 ft and 1965 m above sea level, this is the highest point of Shillong. It offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire city, the Himalayas, its waterfalls as well as of the Bangladesh plains. A telescope is available for tourists to get a bird's eye view. Trekking up to this semi-circular peak is highly recommended for the best views but it is often bounded by heavy fog.
2.Elephant Falls: Definitely the most popular tourist site of Shillong, these falls are 12km from the city and can be easily reached by public transport. It is a collection of three smaller falls which eventually merge into one.
3.Police Bazar: Police Bazar is the most tourist friendly market of Shillong. In addition to an array of restaurants, hotels and big brand stores, the bazaar also has a flea market section which is pocket friendly and draws maximum number of tourists owing to its traditional handicrafts stores, exquisite Meghalaya merchandise, regional apparels, junk jewellery and the like.
4.Lady Hydari Park: One of the most famous tourist spots of Shillong, the park is dedicated to the first lady of the province - Lady Hydari. This sprawling park encompasses a wide variety of flora along with a cute mini zoo housing 73 species of birds and over 100 reptiles.
5.Umiam Lake: Umiam Lake, a mesmerizing man-made reservoir, is located at a distance of 15 kilometers north of Shillong which is the capital of the north-eastern Indian state of Meghalaya. The lake was formed after a dam was constructed to generate hydroelectric power. The serene lake or the reservoir is surrounded by thick coniferous forests and expands over an area of about 222 square kilometers. The area of this lake is four times the size of San Marino or Bermuda. It is encircled by lush green East Khasi hills that form one of the best panoramic sights for nature-lovers in the country. The picturesque location and the serene beauty of the lake attract tourists from all over the world. The sunrises are a treat to the eyes and shouldn't be missed.
6.Don Bosco Museum: A theme museum with collective information on the entire North Eastern stated of India, the museum exhibits a wide collection of regional artwork, attires, accoutrements, handicrafts, ornamentation, photographs and weapons. The museum consists of a seven storey building with seventeen galleries.
7.Sweet Falls: One of the steepest and the most mesmerizing falls of the country. The sound of gurgling water, chirping birds, the feel of the falling water and the lush greenery - all together just take your breath away.
8.Ward's Lake: A pretty artificial lake surrounded by gardens is an ideal evening get away! Also known as the Polok Lake, it is usually flocked by couples, picnickers and locals.
9.Laitlum Canyons: Also known as •Sit Valleyê by the locals, Laitlum Canyons means •end of the worldê or •end of hillsê. The exotic tourist spot is perched atop the East Khasi Hill in Shillong and nestled amidst majestic mountain peaks and verdant forests. The mountain top offers sweeping panoramic vistas of the valley below.
10.Mawphlang Sacred Forest: 25km from Shillong, this place is popular for being home to Meghalaya's most renowned forest groves - the Sacred Forest. It is known as nature's own museum with a wide variety of flora - aroids, ferns, orchids and a lot more.

Shillong derives its name from Lei Shyllong, an idol worshipped at the Shillong Peak. Standing as tall as 1496 meters, Shillong provides a relief from the heat across the country. Nobel laureates Rabindranath Tagore visited Shillong on three occasions. Tagore during his stay at Shillong penned the classic Novel Shesher Kabita. During his stay at Jeet Bhoomi in Rilbong in 1923, Tagore wrote the drama Raktakarabiand a poem Shillong Er Chithi. The third visit of Tagore was in 1938.
