The most recognizable of all Salvador tourist attractions would be both the Lacerda Elevator, which transports people between the lower and upper towns, and the historic center of Salvador.
Also known as the Pelourinho, the historic center of Salvador is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the most famous part of Salvador having been the first colonial capital in Brazil. Its colorful houses, shops and numerous religious buildings of note are a just some of the sights tourists will take in here.
Most of the main sights of Salvador are within easy walking distance of each other so the city is relatively easy to get around on foot to enjoy.
Beautiful places to go in Salvador include Port da Barra beach and surrounds which are another great sight-seeing point-of-interest. Tourists can walk the numerous beaches in the area or take in a number of old fortifications that dot the coast-line - they stretch for miles with the Morre do Cristo and its statue of Jesus marking one of the Southern points of the city.
When in Salvador you should definitely visit the Mercado Modelo, the market has a wonderful history, although ravaged by fire on numerous occasions the current market houses an amazing array of craft and artisan shops - it also lies right next to the ocean and popular tourist area in the city.
Amazing views in Salvador include Rio Branco Palace and the striking Cruz Caida which offers some of the very best views of the city and surf below! the fallen cross monument or sculpture marking the place where a prominent Cathedral once stood.
And all of that is leaving out the plethora of notable churches and cathedrals that exist within the city - a couple of note being the Basilica do Senhor do Bonfim and the Sao Francisco Church and Convent, alongside a number of highly reviewed museums.

With a charming Old Town (a World Heritage Site), a vibrant musical scene and popular Carnival celebrations, it is considered one of the birthplaces of Brazilian culture.
See in Salvador, Brazil ================== Architecture -------------- At the center of the Cidade Alta there are the 2 large squares Praça da Sé and the Terreiro de Jesus which are connected at the corner by the cathedral. The latter is probably the most lively part of town, with food carts and stalls through the day and revelers in the evening hours. The slick, L-shaped Praça da Sé has cool fountains and the fenced-off ruins of the foundations of its namesake church. At the far end of the plaza, the 1874 funicular railway Plano Inclinado Gonçalves used to send 30-passenger cars between Cidade Alta and Cidade Baixa on terrifyingly steep tracks – it's been out of service since 2011, though plans to restore the train are in the works. A colourful intersection of vendors, tourists, capoeiristas and colourful locals, the Terreiro de Jesus is a historic site of religious celebrations, and is ringed by four churches, as well as the XIX century Faculdade de Medicina Building
The plaza feeds into the Cruzeiro de Sمo Francisco , named for the cross in the square’s center.
Praça Municipal (City Square), Praça Tomé de Souza. Once the political seat of colonial Brazil, it is now a lively place to people-watch and see panoramic views over the bay. Overlooking the plaza, note the impressive Palلcio Rio Branco, reconstructed in 1919; the original 1549 structure housed the offices of Tomé de Souza, Brazil’s first governor general. edit
Largo do Pelourinho — A fairly small triangular plaza, is among the oldest parts of town. You can guess from its name meaning plaza of the pillory what went on around there.
Mercado Modelo — The city's main market located in the lower town is and a good place for crafts and other souvenirs. In the adjacent square you can often see young men performing capoeira, the famous martial arts dance which originates from the area.
Solar do Unhمo — The best place in Salvador to watch the sunset. It is an old style house located at the Baيa de Todos os Santos. Inside there is a small museum (Museu de Arte Moderna) with local art pieces. Sometimes on Saturday evening there is a jazz concert.
Forte de Santo Antônio da Barra ((Farol da Barra for the lighthouse)), Largo do Farol da Barra - Barra BA, Brasil, ☎ +55 71 3264-3296, [2]. is Bahia’s oldest fort was built in 1698. In addition to having superb views, the fort houses an excellent nautical museum, with relics and displays from the days of Portuguese seafaring. As you catch the sunset here – from the grassy ledge behind the fort or from the museum’s gorgeous terrace café – realize that Salvador’s peninsula is the only location in Brazil where the sun appears to set over the ocean.
Elevador Lacerda, Rua da Conceiçمo da Praia, Salvador, Bahia, Brasil (near the Comércio), ☎ +55 71 3103-3103. 7am-11pm, extended hours summer weekends & Carnaval. The beautifully restored, art deco Elevador Lacerda connects the Cidade Alta with Comércio via 4 elevators traveling 72 m in about 30 sec. The Jesuits installed the 1st manual rope-and-pulley elevator around 1610 to transport goods and passengers from the port to the settlement. In 1868 an iron structure with clanking steam elevators was inaugurated, replaced by an electric system in 1928. Facing the elevator are the impressive arches of the Câmara Municipal, the XVII century city hall, which occasionally puts on cultural exhibitions. R$0.15.
Religious sites -------------------- Convento de Igreja de Sمo Francisco (see the 360؛ Virtual Tour in the following link), [3]. — is a very important colonial monuments in Brazil. The current church was built between 1708-1723, but the interior was decorated by several artists during a great part of the XVIII century. Most decoration of the church and convent were finished by 1755. All surfaces inside - walls, pillars, vaults and ceilings - are covered by golden sculptered gilt woodwork and paintings. The decoration of the church is considered one of the most complete and imposing in Portuguese-Brazilian Baroque gilt woodwork art (talha dourada), being a perfect example of the golden church (igreja dourada).
Igreja do Nosso Senhor do Bonfim — A small church located in a neighborhood to the north, is one of the most popular pilgrimage sites in all of Brazil. The colorful votive ribbons or fitas of Bonfim are an easily recognizable item throughout Brazil and even beyond. Children outside the church will (for a small fee) tie them around your wrist and tell you to make a wish for each one.

As fitinhas do Bonfim

SALVADOR, land of joy and magic. One of the most visited tourist destinations in the country by tourists from all corners of the world. With diversified attractions, SALVADOR has singular characteristics: its architecture; the culture inherited from the ancestors; the customs that are still preserved today and the incomparable joy of the Bahians make SALVADOR a city that enchants and falls in love with its visitors. The imposing past of Salvador, that was the first capital of Brazil, still today is portrayed in its old mansions that today serve as inns, hotels and restaurants to receive the thousands of tourists that come to SALVADOR the entire year. Whoever visits SALVADOR has many reasons to stay in the city and many times, return to remember the unique moments that they witnessed in the capital of Bahia. I will speak about some of the tourist points that we have in SALVADOR, I particularly find incredible. THE PELOURINHO, Among so many tourist points of SALVADOR, the most famous is the Historical Center or Pelourinho as it is better known. Protected by UNESCO in 1985 as a Historical Heritage Site, the Pelourinho is full of bars, restaurants, and inns. It is the stage for all the arts and culture typical of Bahia that emanates through the narrow cobblestone streets. It is a mandatory stop for those visiting Salvador. The parties and events of SALVADOR, The Bahian capital also offers other tourist attractions, such as the parties and events and one of them is the famous Carnaval of SALVADOR. The famous trios elétricos (electric trios) gather thousands of people, among Brazilians and foreigners, and only those who have participated in this event can explain the wonderful energy that happens during these days of Carnaval. In the streets, day and night, the electric trios during the entire Carnival make the party of those who come in search of fun. The Culinary, The Bahians are also known for their culinary spices. Eccentric and spicy flavors, the result of the mixture of customs and races like the black, the Indian, and the Portuguese. The Bahian people are full of beliefs, joy, faith, and above all, hospitality. Before I forget, if you are going to travel, you will need a pet sitter, I will leave the link here of an indication of mine and very good too, there are sitters registered all over the world and there are also some medicines that will help you on your trip, the links are in the description and in the fixed comment! And if this content is helping you, consider subscribing to the channel and leaving your like, it helps me a lot! The capital of Bahia enchants its visitors with a pleasant, cheerful and mainly romantic atmosphere. Mercado Modelo, the main commercial space for handcrafts in SALVADOR, the Mercado Modelo was built in the 19th century, more precisely in 1861, and is located in Cidade Baixa. There are several boxes that sell handmade products and the famous Senhor do Bonfim ribbons.

TRIP TO SALVADOR - BAHIA - BRAZIL
October 20, 2021. 6:14 pm. Fortaleza. We were excited, waiting to get onboard this bus and travel about 1200 km (or 745 miles) to Salvador, capital of Bahia. The journey was expected to take 23 hours. We had never travelled such a great distance by bus. We slept on the bus and woke up in the neighbor state of Pernambuco. Later, I liked it when we crossed the bridge connecting Petrolina and Juazeiro, two important cities in the northeast part of Brazil. The bridge goes over the great São Francisco River. Very important source of fresh water for the northeast part of Brazil is known the suffer during the dry season.
October 21, 2021, about 7 pm. We were arriving in Salvador. As you can probably see from this clip, my second generation Iphone SE doesn’t do a very good job recording at night. Next time I visit America I got buy an Iphone 13 pro. We got in Salvador exhausted, but the bus road trip wasn’t as bad as we thought it would be. It was worth it because it cost one third of the corresponding airplane ticket.
October 22, 2021, 10:47 am. We visited this famous catholic church. It’s called Igreja Basílica de Nosso Senhor do Bonfim. This catholic temple is located in Sagrada Colina, in the peninsula of Itapagipe, in Salvador, Brazil. Its construction began between the years 1745 and 1746, its internal works were completed in 1754 and external works in 1772 (with the towers). I got this information from Wikipedia. If it was only up to me I would just say: pretty cool old building.
I believe there is a tradition that if you tie some of these colorful fitas (maybe the word in English for that is strips, please let me know what you think). Well, I’m gonna go with strips. If you tie some of these colorful strips to the protection grids around the church, you may get good luck or your dreams will come true, or something like that. I think it looks good, but I didn’t tie any strips because I prefer believing in science and logic.
I’m not catholic, but I still like the architecture of catholic churches. We like visiting old beautiful places. Old places can be new places for you, right?
We still had to wear masks outside, but at least, after the vaccine we finally felt like we could go places after over a year with no travelling at all. So, we were grateful to be in Salvador.
Later on the same day, we visited what is called Elevador Lacerda, I guess it would be called Lacerda’s Elevator, in English, maybe.
You pay a few cents to use the elevator, and this is the view from the top. I like how the boats look like toys from above. That reminds me of the TV show Dexter.
Just outside Elevador Lacerda, you will see another cool old building. This one is the Palácio Rio Branco (I think we can call it White River Palace), and it was the Bahia’s old government headquarters. Maybe the governor lived here or something like that. I ask you: why is it that a member of government would live in place like this while poor people sometimes don’t even have a home? I don’t understand why a few high government employees lived and still live like kings while the most people struggle to survive. If you would like me to keep telling you guys about this trip to Salvador, comment something. You could, perhaps, correct some of my mistakes concerning English. I would appreciate that. Or you could ask me something about Bahia and I will try to answer. Don’t be shy, let’s interact with each other. Also, please share this video. Maybe your grandmother would like to watch it, I don’t know. You don’t know. Send this video to her and let’s find out. Thanks for watching, I’ll see next time.
