EXPLORING THE ANCIENT CAPITAL-SUKHOTHAI THAILAND Travel Guide And Things To Do #sukhothai

🛑In this Video Sukhothai Thailand.
Explore More Details 👇

🛑Sukhothai, located in northern Thailand, holds a significant place in the country's history as the capital of the Sukhothai Kingdom, which flourished from the 13th to the 15th century. It was during this period that Sukhothai experienced its golden age, characterized by advancements in art, architecture, religion, and governance. The kingdom is credited with laying the foundation for Thai culture and identity, and its legacy continues to influence Thailand to this day.

🛑Climate:
The climate of Sukhothai is typical of northern Thailand, characterized by a tropical savanna climate. The region experiences distinct wet and dry seasons, with hot and humid weather prevailing throughout much of the year. The dry season, from November to April, offers pleasant temperatures and clear skies, making it the peak tourist season. The wet season, from May to October, brings heavy rainfall and occasional flooding, but also lush green landscapes.

🛑Reach:
Sukhothai is easily accessible by both domestic and international travelers. The nearest major city is Phitsanulok, which has an airport with regular flights from Bangkok and other regional hubs. From Phitsanulok, it's a short drive to Sukhothai by bus or taxi. Additionally, Sukhothai is well connected by road and rail networks, making it accessible from various parts of Thailand.

🛑Tourism:
Tourism plays a significant role in Sukhothai's economy, drawing visitors from around the world to explore its historical sites and immerse themselves in its rich culture. The Sukhothai Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the main attraction, showcasing the ruins of temples, palaces, and statues from the Sukhothai Kingdom. In addition to its historical significance, Sukhothai also offers opportunities for eco-tourism, with nearby national parks and outdoor activities such as cycling and hiking.

🛑Things to Do:

Explore the Sukhothai Historical Park: Spend a day exploring the ruins of the ancient city, including the iconic Wat Mahathat with its towering Buddha statues and the Ramkhamhaeng National Museum, which houses artifacts from the Sukhothai period.

Cycling Tour: Rent a bicycle and pedal your way through the picturesque countryside surrounding Sukhothai. Cycling is a popular way to explore the area, allowing you to visit off-the-beaten-path temples and villages at your own pace.

Visit Si Satchanalai Historical Park: Just a short drive from Sukhothai lies Si Satchanalai, another UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring well-preserved ruins from the later period of the Sukhothai Kingdom. Explore the temples, city walls, and ancient pottery kilns of this lesser-known historical site.

Sample Local Cuisine: Indulge in delicious Thai cuisine at Sukhothai's street markets and local restaurants. Don't miss the opportunity to try Sukhothai noodles, a regional specialty known for its flavorful broth and tender pork.

Attend Festivals: Experience Sukhothai's vibrant culture by attending one of its annual festivals, such as Loy Krathong, where floating lanterns are released on the rivers and lakes, or the Songkran water festival, a joyous celebration marking the Thai New Year.

Relax by the Yom River: Take a leisurely stroll along the banks of the Yom River, which runs through Sukhothai. Enjoy serene views of the water and lush vegetation, or rent a boat for a peaceful cruise downstream.

🛑Sukhothai offers a captivating blend of history, culture, and natural beauty, making it a must-visit destination for travelers exploring northern Thailand. Whether you're wandering among ancient ruins, sampling local delicacies, or simply soaking in the tranquil ambiance, Sukhothai promises an unforgettable experience steeped in centuries of Thai heritage.

Sukhothai | Si Satchanalai | Thailand

Sukhothai Historical Park (Thai: อุทยานประวัติศาสตร์สุโขทัย) covers the ruins of Sukhothai, literally 'dawn of happiness', capital of the Sukhothai Kingdom in the 13th and 14th centuries, in north central Thailand. It is near the city of Sukhothai, capital of Sukhothai Province.

The city's walls form a rectangle about 2 km (1.2 mi) east-west by 1.6 km (0.99 mi) north-south. There are 193 ruins on 70 km2 (27 sq mi) of land. There is a gate in the center of each wall. Inside are the remains of the royal palace and twenty-six temples, the largest being Wat Mahathat. The park is maintained by the Fine Arts Department of Thailand with help from UNESCO, which has declared it a World Heritage Site. Each year, the park welcomes thousands of visitors.

The Si Satchanalai Historical Park (Thai: อุทยานประวัติศาสตร์ศรีสัชนาลัย) is a historical park in Si Satchanalai district, Sukhothai Province, northern Thailand. The park covers the ruins of Si Satchanalai and Chaliang. Si Satchanalai, which literally means City of good people, was founded in 1250 as the second center of the Sukhothai Kingdom and as a residence of the crown prince in the 13th and 14th centuries.

The city was rectangular in shape. In the 16th century, a 5-metre high wall with an upstream moat was built to fend off the growing Burmese attacks. The location of the town was facilitated by two neighboring dominant hills. The park is maintained by the Fine Arts Department of Thailand with help from UNESCO, which has declared it a World Heritage Site together with the associated historic parks in Kamphaengphet and Sukhothai. Similar to Sukhothai Historical Park, Si Satchanalai Historical Park attracts thousands of visitors each year, who marvel at the ancient Buddha figures, palace buildings and ruined temples. The park is easily toured by bicycle or even on foot.

Sukhothai Historical Park - Wat Mahathat (Cross That Bridge)

We visited the largest temple, Wat Mahathat, at Sukhothai Historical Park in Thailand. The cost to enter was 350 Baht (under $10 USD) for all five zones, or 100 Baht ($2.60 USD) for each individual zone. We elected to walk around rather than using a bicycle or tram.

This trip was taken in September 2019.

Sukhothai Historical Park Thailand Fantastic at Night time (Film by Meaw)

My youtube video link:

.
Visiting Sukhothai Historical Park at Night

Most people only think about visiting Sukhothai Historical park during the day. I highly recommend you try to visit it at night when it is lit up it is beautiful

Even though the statues and ruins are lit up you might want to bring a torch with you. The lights are focused on the ruins and not the ground which is quite dark.

UNESCO World Heritage City, Sukhothai houses a vast number of historical sites and temple ruins. As the first capital of Siam, the Sukhothai Kingdom (1238 – 1438) was the cradle of Thai civilisation – the birthplace of Thai art, architecture and language. ‘Sukhothai’ means ‘the dawn of happiness’, and the kingdom did enjoy an extended period of peace and prosperity until it was annexed by the Ayutthaya Kingdom. Due to its location (about 427km north of Bangkok and sitting relatively in the middle of nowhere) Sukhothai sees a smaller number of visitors than its more popular counterpart Ayutthaya. Sukhothai’s historical sites, however, are by no means less splendid. Most historically significant temple ruins are housed inside the Sukhothai Historical Park and nearby Si Satchanalai Historical Park. Apart from visiting the historical sites, Sukhothai itself is a quiet rural city where you can still relish the charms of Thailand’s rustic lifestyle.
