Rapallo & Santa Margherita Ligure 🇮🇹 THE ITALIAN RIVIERA IS BEAUTIFUL
Rapallo and Santa Margherita Ligure are fantastic places along the Italian Riviera. It is so beautiful here and I cannot recommend this region of Italy enough! The coastline just keeps getting more beautiful as I work my way along the coast!
Next stop, Portofino!
The Bus between the two towns is the 707: it leaves roughly every 20 minutes - from Rapallo outside of the train station and from Santa Margherita Ligure outside of the Tourist Office.
Take the train between the two towns and grab tickets here: (the app is much better, so download that and keep your tickets with you on your phone).

Italian Riviera Travel Guide — 2023 LIST OF BEST BEACHES IN LIGURIA, FROM SOUTH TO NORTH, BEST BEACHES IN NORTHERN ITALY. Best of the Italian Riviera!
#1 LERICI Best beaches Italian Riviera. Lerici, Italy. Near Cinque Terre.
If you’re looking for the most beautiful beach in Italy, you need to consider Lerici Lido Beach Club for beautiful beach travel with more Italians. This Italy vlog shows you Lerici’s long, wide sandy beach. This Liguria vlog shows you the view across the turquoise Bay of Poets to Porto Venere. Italy best beaches must include the lovely public beaches in Lerici. Lerici's long promenade to San Terenzo lets you do the Passegiata an iconic stroll and element of Italian life. Feel the Dolce Vita! One of the best sandy beaches in Italy!
#2 SESTRI LEVANTE Top beach in Italy near hiking. Sestri Levante, Italy - Baia del Silenzio
Sestri Levante is an old-school seaside resort. Hiding behind the town center is the hidden gem of the Bay of Silence. La Baia del Silenzio - a beautiful crescent shaped beach. In this travel vlog you’ll also see the short hike to Punta Manara with a stunning view down to the Bay of Silence and Sestri Levante.
#3. PARAGGI beach. Best beach in Italy near Portofino. Paraggi, Italy on the Italian Riviera is another rare sandy beach in a protected nature zone. Motorboats are forbidden. Explore by kayak or SUP. Do open water swimming. This Italy vlog shows you how in summer, beach clubs crowd the sand. A tiny sliver of a beach in-between the beach clubs or rock shelves act as the public beach. Best in off-season.
#3.5 NIASCA. Best beach Liguria for water sports. Niasca, Italy Paraggi’s little sister beach
Niasca is a hidden gem on the same protected bay as Paraggi..
#4 CAMOGLI. Best beach Italy Riviera. Camogli, Italy - Spiaggia LIbera.
The beach fronts one of the most beautiful fishing villages in Italy. The dramatic side-drop of the mountain of Portofino National Park makes the setting of this beach really unique. See in this Italy beach vlog how even though it’s a rocky, this beach ends in soft pebbles at the shore. Depth drops steeply, with lots of fish.
#5 BOGLIASCO. Best beach near Genoa. Bogliasco Sotto La Chiesa Beach. Italian Riviera.
This tiny public beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Italy named for its position directly below Maria Santissima Church. Beautiful turquoise water! Located at the bottom of stairs this hidden gem is one of our favorites. A tip from this Italy beach vlog — When you’re in Bogliasco, be sure to stop by Panificio Stea. They make the best focaccia we’ve tasted in all of eastern Liguria.
#6. NERVI. Best beach for the rock shelf style beach. Nervi Italian Riviera near Genoa.
Another beautiful beach in our Italy beach vlog. Nervi is a suburb of Genoa. Very charming port and promenade called Passeggiata Anita Garibaldi. Bagni Medusa is both a beach club and a restaurant. This beach is all rock! Locals make a beach of rock because in Italy one says, “Andiamo al Mare” - let’s go to the sea, rather than let’s go to the beach. Even these beaches are the best of the Italian riviera!
Bonus Beach! Best beach Italy Riviera for dogs. SANTA MARGHERITA LIGURE, Italy. Dog Beach. Bau Bau Beach in Santa Margherita. No Italy beach vlog with Italy best beaches would be complete without a dog beach!
THE ITALIAN BEACH CLUB. THE LIDO. ITALIAN RIVIERA BEACH CLUBS.
Italy’s beaches are public land, but the government sells concessions to businesses who charge entrance fees in the summer. Those fees in the Italian Riviera of Liguria start at 30 euros for two people up to 300 euros. A unique aspect of Italian beach culture. Enjoy the best beaches in Northern Italy, some of Italy’s best beaches!

Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy, people and piazzas
There are some famous, beautiful, seaside towns along the Mediterranean shores of northwest Italy, but you might be surprised and delighted by the less well-known, but ever glamorous Santa Margherita Ligue, or as the locals call it, Santa. In many ways it's every bit as impressive as the more famous sites such as Portofino and Cinque Terre – in some ways it's even better.
It's a little bit less touristic than many, so it offers an authentic slice of Italian life, as you'll see. The main piazza, as usual, is the center of life in the city. There are just locals, there's families, there's young couples out, eating and drinking, having a good time. Here's an example of the low prices and warm hospitality of the area, with this spritz, and all the snacks that came with it, for just six euro. You pay for the drink and the snacks are free. And there's a big supply of hotels and restaurants which are a bit less expensive than in the more famous places of the region. Mostly locals out today. We were here in the off-season, in October, so we had nice weather and the town was not crowded – easy to get a table at a restaurant, and always lots of things to keep us busy, exploring the little pedestrian lanes, piazzas and the waterfront of this charming city.
In that casual Italian style, the laundry hangs out the window, even on the main piazza. And notice the paintings on the buildings -- it looks like three-dimensional carvings but it's all painted on in exquisite detail to trick the eyes. It's a trompe l'oeil kind of effect, making the buildings look stately and elegant, even with the laundry hanging in front. And there is no graffiti, which is quite remarkable for an Italian city.
Extending directly in from the piazza are the two main pedestrian lanes of town, Via Cavour and Via Palestro, and they are lined with shops, and restaurants, and cafés, and lots of people out for a stroll, especially now in late afternoon. It's the passeggiata, a time-honored tradition in which nearly the whole town participates, out for a stroll. But it is not just any old walk. It's more of an art form. People are not necessarily shopping, or going anywhere in particular. It's a leisurely stroll to see their friends, and see who's wearing what, and maybe stop for a chat. It's an expression of the feeling of having plenty of time, with leisure, and ease in a relaxing way – something Italians learn to do from an early age.
The south end of town by the waterfront is a little bit more for the locals rather than the visitors, but you can see this is definitely worth walking down to – get away from the main tourist center by that main piazza we saw earlier and come on over. It's only about 600 meters away -- easy to get here, walk around. You might see the fishermen bringing in the days catch to the local customers on the dock.
There is a charming waterfront park and promenade with benches and landscaping, beautiful palm trees, statues and fountains. It's a safe place for the local biker gang to hang out. Just be careful not to get in their way.
The waterfront is a center of social life, like an outdoor living room. It's a place to relax, or to kick a soccer ball around. And it's a venue for folk shows and events associated with competition, such as the half marathon.
With its affordable hotels and many delightful attractions, Santa Margherita makes a good place to stay when you're visiting Portofino, just three miles away, and Cinque Terre, easily reached in a one-hour train ride. We have other videos about those two places which are wonderful to visit and we've got two other movies about Santa Margherita, but this program is different, focusing more on the people, piazzas pedestrian lanes and the waterfront.
Many visitors to Santa Margherita arrive by rail. The train station is located right in the town itself, and so if you're traveling light, you could most likely just walk from the train station to your hotel. Most of the hotels are within 1/2 a mile, or at most, one mile away.
And to complete our walk through this wonderful pedestrian zone, I'll bring you to my personal favorite restaurant in the city, where I enjoyed a lovely meal, Ristorante da Michele.
We are staying at the Laurin Hotel, and it's four stars, and it's right on the waterfront, great location just a hundred meters away from the center of town where you got all the restaurants, and the piazza, the pedestrian lanes, the passeggiata in the evening.
The hotel breakfast is just what you would hope to find in a very nice four-star hotel in Italy – a big spread there, with their cold cuts, your meats and cheeses, there's rolls and fruits of course, there's yogurts and coffee.
This visit to Santa Margherita Ligue is part of our larger tour that also visits Portofino and Cinque Terre, and we have many more episodes showing you those wonderful places, providing an in-depth look at this beautiful region.

Welcome to the Italian Riviera! Also known as Liguria or the Ligurian Coast, this region of Italy stretches from France in the west to Tuscany in the east along the Mediterranean coast and is known for its idyllic fishing villages like Camogli, romantic resort towns like Portofino, and of course, delicious foods like pesto and focaccia – since they were created here! We had the pleasure of spending one full day exploring the beautiful coastline by bus, boat, and foot, and while one day is barely enough time to even scratch the surface of this incredible region, it was enough to let us know that we HAVE to come back!

== About Us ==
We’re Matt & Nat, a part-time, non-remote travel couple based out of Nashville, TN.
We launched in 2021 by visiting all 50 US states & documented our entire journey on our Blog & here on YouTube! After spending a full year focused on such a defined goal, 2022 left us feeling a little lost & wondering What's next?. We continued traveling & creating vlogs but always with the What's next? question lingering. During one of our trips, we came across the book “1,000 Places to See Before You Die” & were immediately drawn in by it & knew that it had to be a part of our adventures. So, in January 2023 we officially launched our “1,000 Places To See Before You Die” series where we’ve set out to see as many of the “1,000 Places To See Before You Die”… before we die!
We hope you’ll join us on the adventure & find some adventures of your own along the way! And remember... It’s better to see something once (even if only for a moment) than to hear about it a thousand times.

Santa Margherita Ligure | Italy | Travel Guide 🇮🇹
My name is Gabe and on this channel i'm showing you where to travel 2022 and how can you solo travel with a drone in Santa Margherita Ligure Italy
I'm not a travel guru, however i'm trying to find the most underrated cities and destination and present them in my solo travel vlog.
Considering subscribing for best backpacking destinations.
Santa Margherita Ligure is one of Liguria's most well-known and popular tourist destinations. The Pearl of Tigullio is a seaside village set in a sheltered harbor on one of the most picturesque segments of the coast.
It has a long and illustrious history that extends back to Roman times. Santa MargheritaLigure was founded by the Romans and eventually became part of the Genoese naval republic.Santa Margherita was separated into two communities in the Middle Ages, Pescino and Corte, named for its two little bays.It has had a tumultuous history since then, with the Saracen pirates destroying, rebuilding, and conquering it multiple times throughout the years.
The town is surrounded by lush Mediterranean flora, with houses and gardens offering spectacular views of the Costa dei Delfini, which connects Santa Margherita and Portofino. The town grew during the previous century on the hills that rise from the sea; as you climb higher, the olive trees give way to chestnut trees.

Portofino, Liguria- Italy: Things to Do - What, How and Why to visit it (4K)
If you are planning to visit the city of Portofino, in Liguria - Italy, here you’ll find the best tips on things to do in the village, with a sightseeing map on the most relevant points of interest to enjoy, so you can easily imagine and organize your trip: WHAT to see, HOW to plan your visit, and WHY to discover Portofino!
In this video:
WHAT are the major attractions that you can't go home without having seen, including Castello Brown, the Gulf of Portofino, the Church of San Giorgio, footpaths around to walk and the Abbey of San Fruttuoso.
Portofino seems the picture of the perfect port city, with a hill of olive groves and small vineyards in its background.
Portofino was known as Dolphin’s Harbor during the Roman era.
The Benedictines established a monastery in the 1400s.
Now, only 500-or-so people actually reside in Portofino, like fishing families and shop owners.
This picturesque town is an attraction for celebrities: for example, Avril Lavigne spent her honeymoon here and Kylie Minogue regularly visits it.
So, WHAT to see in Portofino?
The medieval castle - Castello Brown - on the top of the hill with a charming view over the Gulf of Portofino.
Church of San Giorgio lies almost in the center of the promontory.
About footpaths, I recommend the trail from Portofino to the Abbey of San Fruttuoso in the Portofino National Park (2 hours of walking).
Abbey of San Fruttuoso was built in the 11th century and is situated on the other side of the peninsula. Here you can find a nice beach and clear waters.
Remember that Portofino can be reached by ferry from Santa Margherita, Rapallo, Camogli, Cinque Terre and Genoa. The closest train station is in Santa Margherita, where there is a bus connection to Portofino.
FOOD TIPS:
- Panificio Canale, a a family-run bakery here:
- Trattoria Concordia, a restaurant perfect for a healthy feast of fresh fish, via del Fondaco, 5 ( +39 0185269207)

Grand Hotel Miramare Santa Margherita Ligure Italy

The Grand Hotel Miramare faces the Sea and beach. It is located at the end of the charming and wealthy town of Santa Margherita, keeping the Miramare private and walking distance from wonderful little boutiques and restaurants. Italians, loved by Italians, will keep you close to Portofino (2 miles away, 10 minutes by car/bus or ferry boat, and 30 minutes walking distance) but immersed in your authentic Italian experience. Considered one of the best bases for the Cinque Terre, which are easily reachable all year round by train or car and between May and October by public and private boat.
In 1903 Mr. Giacomo Costa transformed his private residence into a hotel, entrusting the management to the Kuoni-Stoppani family, founders of one of the oldest European travel agencies: how the Miramare soon became one of the first Grand Hotels on the Portofino coast. The Grand Hotel Miramare, with its large liberty-style building overlooking the promenade to Portofino, dominates the Tigullio Gulf. An exclusive holiday destination for more than a century, the Grand Hotel Miramare offers its guests an atmosphere of elegant simplicity and comfort. Since 1945, the hotel belongs to the Fustinoni family.
The Hotel has 75 rooms, either facing the Mediterranean Park (all with balcony) or the sea (some with balcony) and 5 junior suites (one with park view and balcony) and 4 suites, all with sea view and balcony. All rooms are air-conditioned and have satellite TV, mini-bar, direct dial telephones, Wi-Fi, a safe, hairdryer, and Miramare bathroom amenities.
The panoramic restaurant Vistamare has regained its old splendor with the restoration of its stuccoes and frescoes, which decorated the great hall in 1903, the year of opening. Famous for its renowned wine cellars, the restaurant is also open to non-resident clients. The Piano Bar Barracuda is an elegant alternative to winter nights in the Riviera. The hotel also offers a poolside summer buffet and barbecue, beach restaurant and pool cocktail bar, and American Bar Le Colonne.
The outdoor seawater pool is open from mid-April to mid-September (last renovation 2014). The Hotel does not manage Bagni Miramare beach across the street. The beach staff will assist you with checking space availability on an on request daily basis. Should space become available, it will be free of charge for hotel guests. The beach is open from mid-June to mid-September. All the main water sports are catered for sailing, yachting, canoeing, and diving. During the summer, aqua gym courses and swimming courses for children are organized at Bagni Miramare. The Rapallo Golf Club - 18 holes - located at 3 miles - is Italy's oldest club. The course, mild in winter and airy in summer, has a wealth of natural obstacles and requires a continuous demand on the player's skills. Guests of Grand Hotel Miramare have special arrangements at the club.
It’s all about wellness. Replenishing energy, easing away tension, improving your appearance. Look after your body and mind at the Grand Hotel Miramare e’SPA’ce with the special sensorial take on wellbeing. Offering total immersion in a soothing ambiance shaped by natural materials and diffused lighting with background music and sound to help guests relax and enjoy their treatments to the full, in the therapists’ expert hands. There is an ample array of beauty rituals for the face and body, plus a series of dedicated aesthetic options for her, for him, or two.
The Grand Hotel Miramare is in Santa Margherita Ligure, panoramically situated between Rapallo and Portofino. Easily reached by all means of transport, the MIRAMARE is the ideal base from which to explore the coast and hinterland of the Tigullio area, which includes enchanting Portofino and the natural treasures of the Nature Park and Protected Marine Area, the fascinating coastal towns on the Golfo Paradiso and the Cinque Terre (Unesco World Heritage).
