In this video I am visiting the town of Santa Maria del Tule, to see the widest tree in the world - the Tue Tree. This is a great additional to any trips to Mexico you may have planned.
This tree is amazing. Before seeing the tree I decided to explore the town, which was super pretty and well maintained. You can tell this is a tourist place.
If you are looking for a unique place to visit during your Mexico holiday, why not check out one of the biggest trees in the world. It may not be the tallest tree in the world, but it is one of the oldest, and the widest tree in the world.

El Árbol del Tule in Santa María del Tule in the Mexican state of Oaxaca,
Beautiful places to travel to game : 100 El Árbol del Tule (Spanish for The Tree of Tule) is a tree located in the church grounds in the town center of Santa María del Tule in the Mexican state of Oaxaca, approximately 9 km (6 mi) east of the city of Oaxaca on the road to Mitla. It is a Montezuma cypress (Taxodium mucronatum), or ahuehuete (meaning old man of the water in Nahuatl). It has the stoutest trunk of any tree in the world. In 2001 it was placDimensions and age[edit] In 2005, its trunk had a circumference of 42.0 m (137.8 ft), equating to a diameter of 14.05 m (46.1 ft),[2] a slight increase from a measurement of 11.42 m (37.5 ft) m in 1982.[3] However, the trunk is heavily buttressed, giving a higher diameter reading than the true cross-sectional of the trunk represents; when this is taken into account, the diameter of the 'smoothed out' trunk is 9.38 m (30.8 ft).[2] This is still slightly larger than the next most stout tree known, a Giant Sequoia with a 8.98 m (29.5 ft) diameter.[4] The height is difficult to measure due to the very broad crown; the 2005 measurement, made by laser, is 35.4 m (116 ft),[2] shorter than previous measurements of 41–43 m (135–141 ft).[3] According to the signboard by the tree (see gallery, below), it has a total volume of 816.829 m3 and a weight of 636.107 t (701.188 short tons); these figures are however not independently verified, and given the same signboard's claim of a girth of 58 m (190 ft), must be treated with suspicion. It is so large that it was originally thought to be multiple trees, but DNA tests have proven that it is only one tree.[5] This does not rule out another hypothesis, which states that it comprises multiple trunks from a single individual.[6] The age is unknown, with estimates ranging between 1,200 and 3,000 years, and even one claim of 6,000 years;[6][7] the best scientific estimate based on growth rates is 1,433-1,600 years.[8] Local Zapotec legend holds that it was planted about 1,400 years ago by Pecocha, a priest of Ehecatl, the Aztec wind god, in broad agreement with the scientific estimate; its location on a sacred site (later taken over by the Roman Catholic Church) would also support this.[6][7] The tree is occasionally nicknamed the Tree of Life from the images of animals that are reputedly visible in the tree's gnarled trunk. As part of an official project local schoolchildren give tourists a tour of the tree and point out shapes of creatures on the trunk, including jaguars and elephants.[citation needed] Slowly dying[edit] In 1990, it was reported that the tree is slowly dying because its roots have been damaged by water ed on a UNESCO tentative list of World Heritage Sites.[1]

Oaxaca City is located in southern Mexico and is the capital of the eponymous Mexican state of Oaxaca. The state is best known for its indigenous peoples and cultures- Zapotec and Mixtec, as well as for the traditional Oaxacan food. The city is often called the food capital of Mexico. Oaxaca, together with the nearby archeological site of Monte Albán, was designated in 1987 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Oaxaca city is a very lively and pretty place where you can wander around the colorful streets and spend time in the city's main square - Zocalo, have a delicious Mexican dish and enjoy the vibrant ambiance. Oaxaca is also home of mezcal and where more than 90% of all Mexico mezcal is produced. Mezcal is the national spirit of Mexico. Mezcal is a distilled alcoholic beverage. It is made from agave (specifically Agave americana) Tequila is a form of mezcal, though they are distilled differently — mezcal is cooked in an underground oven, and tequila is boiled. You can join one of the many mezcal tours, learn about the process of making and taste different sorts of mezcal drinks. The video also features the archaeological site and ruins of Mitla, which is located about 44km from Oaxaca and is associated with the Zapotec and Mixtec cultures. The video ends with a visit of Tule, located also in the state of Oaxaca. The city is popular with its Tree of Tule - one of the world's oldest trees, considered to be more than 2000 years old.

The Tule Tree may not be the tallest or the oldest tree in the world, but it has no contenders for widest girth award. It is one of the natural wonders, and widest tree in the world. One of the oldest and most famous of Mexico's National Trees it is a unique natural monument to the hitsory and peoples.
This tree was a decorative, irrigation cultivated, sapling at the time when the Zapotec civilization at Monte Albán was flourishing. One of their origin stories tells that the ahuehuete trees provided shelter to a male and female human couple through a long period of flooding. A belief of the Ayuuk (Mixe) is that the tree is the walking stick of one of their gods that took root and grew into the famous tree.
Now a giant and considered one of 'Los Ultimos Testigos' the Tule Tree of Santa Maria has a circumference of 54 meters (164 feet) — the largest recorded girth of any tree on the planet. The cypress (Taxodium mucronatum) known in Spanish as a sabino, in Náhuatl — the language of the Aztecs — ahuehuete and in Central Valley Zapotec Yagaguichiciña, is Mexico’s national tree. According to legend, Hernan Cortes cried beneath the boughs of a cypress after the Aztecs defeated the Spanish.
The area surrounding the mammoth trees was formerly a marsh filled with cattails or bulrushes, known in Spanish as tules, which gives the town (and confusingly the tree) its name. Environmental degradation as well as increased urbanization and irrigated farming have diverted water from the aquifers. During the dry season, the water table decreases more than six meters (20 feet). Water has to be trucked in to meet the trees formidable thirst. It is given about 5,000L a day, by some accounts, 1/4 of what such a tree could consume.
Location- The town of Santa María del Tule is 10 km west of Oaxaca, accesible by road (Highway 190) or a shaded bike path up the median in Oaxaca’s eastern Central Valley.
