Basilica of Santa Anastasia in Verona, Italy 🇮🇹
The church of San Pietro da Verona in Santa Anastasia , better known as the basilica of Santa Anastasia , is an important Catholic place of worship located in the heart of the historic center of Verona ; it is located in the terminal area of the maximum decumanus of the Roman city , near the point where the wide meander of the Adige river is cut by the Pietra bridge , where the two main city communication routes gravitate. road and river. It is the largest, solemn and representative Veronese church, a reflection of a lively moment in city life, in which the enlargement and consolidation of political and economic institutions allowed the community, in synergy with the Scaligera lordship , the Dominican clergy and the Castelbarco family , to do a notable financial effort to build this important temple, a symbol of their power.
The church was the most important Gothic episode for Verona , and in the years immediately following its construction it became a point of reference on which the projects of various other church buildings will be based, in particular as regards some innovations that Santa Anastasia brought to the plan, with the development of a large transept and the articulation of the apse area into four chapels on the sides of the presbytery where the main altar is located, the wall structure completely in brick and the new type of bell tower. The façade, apart from a majestic two-hole Gothic portal through which one enters the vast interior space divided into three naves by monumental cylindrical pillars, is unfinished. On the sides of the two side aisles there are some chapels and numerous altars, the most famous of which is the Fregoso altar made by Danese Cattaneo , also praised by Giorgio Vasari , you can also admire paintings and frescoes by well-known masters of painting Veronese and not, such as Pisanello , Altichiero , Liberale from Verona , Stefano da Zevio , Nicolò Giolfino ,Giovan Francesco Caroto , Felice Brusasorzi , Francesco Morone , Michele from Verona , Lorenzo Veneziano .
The genesis of its building events can be placed in 1260 when the Dominican friars who were outside the city walls obtained the land in which to build the new church and the new convent from the bishop of Verona Manfredo Roberti . The start date of the works in the large factory is 1290, however the construction site lasted a very long time and it can be said that it ended only in the forties of the fifteenth century, even if the fundamental structures were already ready in the third decade of the previous century. The basilica was solemnly consecrated on 22 October 1471 by the cardinal and bishop of Verona Giovanni Michiel, however, minor works continued for over two centuries, never completing the main façade. Suppressed in 1807 the Dominican order, the temple was entrusted to the secular clergy while the adjacent convent, now abandoned, later became the seat of the Scipione Maffei state high school.
The basilica is also the seat of a parish included in the vicariate of Verona Center.

Church of St. Anastasia (Verona) ✔
➤ “Sant'Anastasia is a church of the Dominican Order in Verona, northern Italy. In Gothic style, it is located in the most ancient part of the city, near the Ponte Pietra.
The current church of Santa Anastasia was started in 1280 and completed in 1400, designed by the Dominican friars Fra' Benvenuto da Imola and Fra' Nicola da Imola. It took its name from a pre-existing temple built by King Theoderic the Greatupon which was built the actual church. Since 1307, it is in fact co-entitled to St. Peter of Verona, martyr and co-patron of the city.
Consecrated only in 1471, until 1808 the church was held by the Dominicans.
The St. Anastasia's 72 m tall belltower had four bells in 1460, the fifth was added in 1650. In the 1839 were casted the actual 9 bells tuned in C, them are ringed in Veronese bellringing art by a local team founded in 1776.”

Motta, thanks to its favorable geographical position of dominion over the plain of Catania, was consolidated over the centuries by the continuous and repeated invasions that began from the period of Dionysius, tyrant of Syracuse. It continued in its role during the Roman, Byzantine, Arab, Norman and finally the Swabian invasions. During the Norman period Motta played an important role in the defense of the city of Catania and the Simeto valley. It was Ruggero d'Altavilla, Count of Sicily, in the 11th century, who ordered the rebuilding of the ancient castle existing on the cliff of Motta. Its main function was that of a lookout post and first defense stronghold.

Verona is most famous for its Roman amphitheater. Next to it is one of the largest piazzas in Italy. Piazza Bra, with several main streets emanating from the central part of town. Via Mazzini is the most popular of the shopping streets in this pedestrian zone, and it leads on to the Piazza della Erbe, which had been the ancient Roman forum, and then the main square of Verona, the pedestrian zone lined with shops and cafes is a major feature of town.
But the most popular attraction for many people is the House of Juliet. As in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, which was set here in Verona.

BASILICA OF SAN ZENO
The Basilica di San Zeno (also known as San Zeno Maggiore or San Zenone) is a minor basilica of Verona, Northern Italy constructed between 967 and 1398 AD. Its fame rests partly on its Romanesque architecture and partly upon the tradition that its crypt was the place of the marriage of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
History
St. Zeno died around 371-380. According to legend, at a site above his tomb along the Via Gallica, the first small church was erected by Theodoric the Great, king of the Ostrogoths. Erection of the present basilica and associated monastery began in the 9th century, when Bishop Ratoldus and King Pepin of Italy attended the translation of the saint's relics into the new church. This edifice was damaged or destroyed by a Magyar invasion in the early 10th-century, at which time Zeno's body was moved to the Cathedral of Santa Maria Matricolare: on May 21, 921, it was returned to its original site in the crypt of the present church. In 967, a new Romanesque edifice was built by Bishop Raterius, with the patronage of Otto I, Holy Roman Emperor.
In 1117, the church was damaged by an earthquake; the church was restored and enlarged in 1138. Work was completed in 1398 with the reconstruction of the roof and of the Gothic-style apse.
Bell tower
The bell tower stands as a separate building. It is 62 m-high and was begun in 1045 and completed in 1178. It is stylistically Romanesque like the church, having a central vertical belt of alternating tuff and brickwork bands. The exterior is decorated with Roman sculptures.
IL DUOMO
is a Roman Catholic cathedral dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary under the designation Santa Maria Matricolare. It is the episcopal seat of the Diocese of Verona.
It was erected after two Palaeo-Christian churches on the same site had been destroyed by an earthquake in 1117. Built in Romanesque style, the cathedral was consecrated in 1187.
The Gothic windows in the facade provide evidence of the renovation that took place in the 14th century. The Baroque addition at the upper part of the facade is part of 17th-century additions. The main apse has retained its integrity and as such is an example of mid-12th-century architecture. The bell tower, begun in the 16th century and left unfinished, has two orders of columns with highly decorated capitals, bas-reliefs and traces of 14th-century frescoes. It contains nine bells in the scale of A. The tenor weight is 4566 kg. The bells are rung with the tradition of Veronese bellringing art.
SANT'ANASTASIA
is a church of the Dominican Order in Verona, northern Italy. In Gothic style, it is located in the most ancient part of the city, near the Ponte Pietra.
History
The current church was started in 1280 and completed in 1400, designed by the Dominican friars Fra' Benvenuto da Imola and Fra' Nicola da Imola. It took its name from a pre-existing temple built by King Theoderic the Great upon which was built the actual church. Since 1307, it is in fact co-entitled to St. Peter of Verona, martyr and co-patron of the city.
Consecrated only in 1471, until 1808 the church was held by the Dominicans.
The 72 m tall belltower had four bells in 1460, the fifth was added in 1650. In the 1839, the 9 bells were cast and tuned in C; they are rung in Veronese bellringing art by a local team founded in 1776.

Lenten Station Churches of Rome: Sant'Anastasia
This Station Church is the first (and maybe only) church with 24 hour adoration in Rome. It's also the first to have the baptismal font located inside the church, rather than in a separate baptistry building.
Enjoy Sant'Anastasia!
