Sansepolcro (formerly Burgus Sancti Sepulchri and Borgo Sansepolcro, hence the vernacular form Bórgo, now widespread, or Bòrgo according to the oldest phonetics; in Tuscan Sansepólcro; erroneously San Sepolcro or S. Sepolcro) is an Italian town of 15 420 inhabitants in the province of Arezzo in Tuscany, on the border with Umbria and Marche, elevated to the status of diocese and awarded the title of city on 17 September 1520 by Pope Leo X and whose banner is decorated with a silver medal for military valor. It is the most populous center and administrative capital of the Tuscan Valtiberina. Free commune first and then cradle of Renaissance culture, it gave birth to famous personalities of science, literature and art such as Dionisio Roberti, Piero della Francesca, Matteo di Giovanni, Luca Pacioli, Raffaellino del Colle, Cherubino Alberti and Santi di Tito. Located north-east of Arezzo on the banks of the Tiber, in the extreme east of Tuscany, at the crossroads of four regions of Tuscany, Marche, Umbria and Emilia-Romagna, it is the main pole of a conurbation that also involves the neighboring municipality of San Giustino, in the province of Perugia. From 1520 to 1986 the city was the capital of the diocese of the same name; since 1986 it has been part of the Diocese of Arezzo-Cortona-Sansepolcro, of which it is co-owner.

Cathedral of Saint John Evangelist, Sansepolcro, Arezzo, Tuscany, Italy, Europe
The cathedral of Sansepolcro (or also the co-cathedral basilica of San Giovanni Evangelista) is the oldest and most important Catholic church in the city of Sansepolcro, formerly the cathedral of the homonymous diocese until 1986, when it became the co-cathedral of the new diocese of Arezzo-Cortona-Sansepolcro. Between 1012 and 1049 the church was built, initially dedicating it to the Four Evangelists and to the Holy Sepulcher, whose relics, according to tradition, were brought from the Holy Land by the two pilgrims Egidio and Arcano. The current co-cathedral, once an abbey church and later a cathedral (from 1520 to 1986), stands approximately on the site where the first Benedictine monastery was founded in the 10th century, passed to the Camaldolese congregation in the course of the 12th century.

Palio della Balestra 2021, Sansepolcro, Arezzo, Tuscany, Italy, Europe
The Palio della Balestra (Crossbow Game) is a folk tournament between the towns of Gubbio (province of Perugia - Umbria) and Sansepolcro (province of Arezzo - Tuscany). It takes place in Gubbio on the last Sunday of May and in Sansepolcro on the second Sunday in September. The term Balestra derives from the Greek verb ballin , which means: to throw, to throw. The oldest document in which we speak of the Crossbow Game is dated16 mai 1461. The relations between Gubbio and Sansepolcro have very ancient origins and have been documented since 1619 . That year, the crossbowmen of Sansepolcro invited those of Gubbio to the Games of S. Edigio. In both cities, crossbow shooting has virtually never stopped to this day. This tournament is organized by the Arbalestière Societies of the towns of Gubbio and Sansepolcro within the framework of the festivals dedicated to their respective patron saints S. Ubaldo and S. John Evangelist.
