6 Top Places MUST Visit WHEN reach at Sandakan BORNEO Sabah Malaysia #travel
Sandakan, merupakan salah sebuah bandaraya utama di Sabah dan merupakan bandar kedua terbesar di negeri tersebut. Kedudukan Sandakan di Teluk Sandakan menjadikannya sebuah pelabuhan yang baik. Sandakan berada di sebelah pantai timur pulau Borneo dan mempunyai penduduk berjumlah 479,121 orang (2009). Penduduk Bangsa Bajau, Suluk dan juga Cina amat dominan di Bandar ini.
Dari segi sejarah, bandar ini pernah menjadi pusat pentadbiran dan ibu negeri Borneo Utara semasa zaman pemerintahan British. Kawasan ini juga pernah menjadi tapak kem tahanan perang dan pembinaan lapangan terbang tentera Jepun semasa Perang Dunia Kedua 1941-1945. Peristiwa Kawat Maut Sandakan di penghujung perang dunia kedua bermula di daerah ini.
1) Sandakan Waterfront Sandakan Waterfront adalah salah satu tempat menarik di Sandakan yang terletak di daerah Sandakan iaitu di Pusat Bandar Sandakan. Tempat ini adalah salah satu tempat menarik yang boleh dikunjungi oleh orang ramai sama ada penduduk tempatan atau pelancong dari dalam dan luar negara yang datang ke Sabah terutamnya ke daerah Sandakan. Tempat ini juga adalah lokasi pilihan utama orang ramai terutama sekali penduduk disekitar daerah Sandakan yang selalu datang ke sini beramai-ramai ketika musim cuti sekolah atau cuti dihujung minggu dan setiap hari pada petang juga boleh dilihat tempat ini akan dipenuhi orang ramai. Sandakan Waterfron sememangnya adalah salah satu tempat yang sangat sesuai untuk beriadah bersama keluarga atau bersama rakan-rakan untuk hilangkan bosan atau penat setelah seharian bekerja.
2) Taman Chong Tain Vun Taman ini dibina khas untuk memperingati mendiang Datuk Chong Tain Vun (P.G.D.K) (Bekas Menteri Perhubungan dan Kerjaraya) yang telah terkorban bersama dengan pemimpin-pemimpin Sabah yang lain dalam nahas Kapal Terbang di Sembulan Kota Kinabalu pada 16hb Jun 1976.
3) St. Michael's and All Angel's Church Rev. Henry Elton sememangnya sangat terkenal dengan pembinaan gereja ini yang dibina dari tahun 1893 hingga 1925. Ia juga adalah gereja batu pertama dan juga yang tertua di Sabah. Tingkap Peringatan Kaca tiga panel yang berwarna juga telah dipasang pada tahun 2005 untuk memperingati tentera Australia and British yang terkorban ketika Kawad Maut yang sangat kejam.
4) Wiliam Pryer Monument Tugu Peringatan William Pryer merupakan salah satu tugu yang terdapat di negeri Sabah. Tugu Peringatan ini dibina pada tahun 1950an dan terletak di dalam daerah Sandakan, Sabah. Tugu Peringatan William Pryer merupakan salah sebuah tugu yang terdapat di daerah Sandakan, Sabah. Tugu ini telah dibina pada tahun 1950an lagi dan lokasnya adalah di Dataran Majlis Perbandaran Sandakan yang terletak di pusat Bandar Sandakan dan berdekatan dengan bangunan Majlis Perbandaran Sandakan (MPS) serta Muzium Warisan Sandakan.
5) Agnes Keith House Agnes Keith merupakan salah seorang penulis Amerika. Beliau dan keluarganya menetap di Sandakan pada 1934 sehingga Mei 1942. Pada tahun 1934, Agnes berkahwin dengan Henry George Keith (Harry) di Los Angeles, selepas itu mereka berdua mengembara dengan kapal ke Sandakan, Sabah. Agnes menulis secara meluas mengenai Sandakan, penduduknya, dan keluarganya. Artikel bertulis itu kemudiannya diserahkan kepada jurnal Amerika Atlantic Monthly. Buku Land Below the Land, sebuah kompilasi semua esei yang pernah ditulisnya, telah dikeluarkan daripadanya pada tahun 1939.
6) Sejati Walk
