The Best San Sebastian Tour + 5 Tips for this Puerto Vallarta experience!
The San Sebastian walking tour was one of our favorite experiences during our 2022 trip to Puerto Vallarta in Mexico! This gem includes true Mexican culture, history, and food. If you’re craving something less touristy and more authentic, take a trip past the agave fields and up into the mountains for great tour, a delicious Mexican lunch in a traditional family-owned restaurant, and samples of liquors and tequilas from a boutique distillery.
~~~~~~~~~~~ Tips: 1. Wear comfortable shoes. You’ll be walking on dirt and cobblestones most of the time and getting in and out of the van often. 2. The tour takes about 8 hours so take everything you need to be comfortable on a daylong tour (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, etc.) and on the longish van ride to/from San Sebastian (water, snacks, etc). 3. While the tour description includes visiting a traditional coffee Hacienda and learning about the craft of Mexican coffee, we found it more of an opportunity to buy pre-packaged coffee in a small shop. 4. Tour includes transportation to and from most hotels in Puerto Vallarta. The van was air conditioned but temperatures can vary from hot to cold while on the mountain tour. 5. Lunch is included but you’ll need to buy any beverages enjoyed beyond the included tequila samples.
~~~~~~~~~~~ Here is the description from Grayline website. Discover the culture and beauty of one of Jalisco’s Magic Villages!
This tour will take you to explore the mining village of San Sebastian- a town founded in 1605- located on the western side of Jalisco. Here you will experience true Mexican culture through the valuable legacy, history and tradition that spans over a thousand years of agricultural and mining history, the effects of which we can still see to this day.
Enjoying the impressive views of the mountains, hills, and forest, you will walk the town in which the San Juan mine was last to close back in 1921. This sightseeing tour will take us to a traditional coffee hacienda where we will learn about the craft of Mexican coffee, which proudly continues to produce quality organic products, and a tequilera’s house as well! You’ll try a variety of traditional agave-distilled products.
We will also visit the presidential plaza and visit the center of town and feel the artist’s passion in every corner of the town!
Last but not least, a traditional family-owned restaurant where we’ll finish the day with a delicious Mexican lunch. Mexican cuisine has been designated a World Heritage by UNESCO, as on this day the use of pre-hispanic ingredients and techniques are still in use. You will have the opportunity to taste some of the most traditional and delicious dishes of Mexico.
Don’t miss out on the real Mexico!

Join us on a day trip tour with a group of 9 tourists as we travel to the mountain pueblo of San Sebastián del Oeste. During the early 1600s it became a mining town for silver, gold, and lead with over 25 mines. Its population grew to over 20,000 in the early 1900s but today there are approximately 5600 inhabitants. Its a Pueblo Mágico because it has kept its colonial charm. We were able to visit silver jewelry shops, a coffee plantation, an old hacienda turned hotel, and a tequila factory!
