Guatapé, Colombia is a unique little town that every tourist should visit. It is the most colorful place you can visit. besides the picturesque streets, the tiny town offers visitors many different things to do and see: like climbing up the giant granite rock southwest of town, has hundreds of steps to the top, where there are sweeping views. San Rafael Colombia is one of a few dozen little pueblos in the Antioquia región, within reach for a day trip. This small town is set apart by its Caribbean-blue swimming holes, one in particular is Cascada la Cazuela.

One weekend we decided to join a local hiking group (based in Medellin) on a day trip to San Rafael, Colombia which is known for its beautiful landscape, waterfalls, and streams. San Rafael is beautiful and is worth a day or weekend trip!
We totally recommend going and we also encourage you to connect with locals in Facebook groups that can lead to participation in various activities such as day trips out of the city.

Jardin Colombia || The Hidden Paradise outside of Medellin
Jardin is the best kept secret in Colombia. Located just outside of Medellin I am surprised this place isn't crawling with tourists.
Jardin is a small town set in the middle of a valley surrounded by lush green mountains. With a noticeable Colombian cowboy culture it is no surprise that it is one of the best places to go horse trekking in South America.
But the real drawcards is the multiple-day hikes you can do and waterfalls. There is one in particular which is hard to get it but well worth it.
Take a look at the very unique waterfall coming through a cave! Only in Jardin. Put it on your 'must-do' list in Colombia.

DON'T GO On This Waterfall Hike In JARDIN, COLOMBIA! 🇨🇴
Jardín is a hidden gem in Colombia that not many know about. It takes around a 4 hour bus ride to get to from Medellín. The region is known for its coffee, cafes, hiking, plethora of waterfalls and happens to be my favorite in Colombia!
Although I would not recommend doing this particular waterfall hike which starts by taking a local jeep from the bus station and dropped off up above Salto del Angel (the first waterfall) and down to Cascada la Escalera. There are many waterfalls in between and you can grab a drink at the end at Cafe Jardín which has an awesome view of the town, however, for the reasons shared in this video I would not recommend this hike in particular.
I didn't hike to Cueva del Esplendor which is another waterfall on it's own which could be worth it, however, I didn't do it so I'm not sure what the trail and chagas situation is like.
My second day in Colombia brought me to a place 2 hours North from Medellin, I always heard about this small town and often wondered what it would be like to experience a town thats full of absolute color. Be advised heading to Guatape is a day trip, its a 2 hour bus ride from the terminal. If you plan to visit Guatape make time in your itinerary and give it a whole day of experience. ▁▁▁▁
