Exploring Three Villages @ Lake Atitlan, Guatemala ( San Pedro, San Marcos, Santa Cruz )
Lake Atitlan is one of the coolest destinations in Guatemala. While I was visiting recently, I took day trips to several villages on the lake, armed with my GoPro to record the experience as if you were with me.
This video isn't very dressed up, it's pretty much my moment-to-moment vlog wandering around these places.

San Pedro Las Huertas, Antigua Guatemala
SAN PEDRO LAS HUERTAS:
Este hermoso lugar fue fundado en 1541, por Pedro Becerra después de la destrucción de La ciudad de Santiago cuando esta se encontraba en el valle de Almolonga, hoy ciudad vieja.
Durante varias décadas tomó la categoría de municipio con las aldeas de San Juan del Obispo, Santa Catalina Bobadilla, San Gaspar Vivar y San Cristóbal El Alto, hasta 1935 por Decreto Gubernativo pasó a categoría de aldea del municipio de La Antigua Guatemala.
Uno de sus mayores atractivos es el templo católico. Dedicado al apóstol San Pedro, fue construido en 1672; su fachada aún conserva los rasgos de estilo barroco del siglo XVII, con columnas salomónicas. La edificación actual sustituyó al primer edificio, construido en 1541, que era más sencillo en su estilo.
En el lugar sobresale la plaza central, con elementos naturales y edificaciones. Entre sus árboles destaca el esquisúchil o “Árbol del Hermano Pedro”, al cual se le atribuyen propiedades curativas, por lo que algunos vecinos recogen las flores blancas con aroma para disecarlas y venderlas o para consumo personal.
Su estanque público, con abundante agua, cuenta con varios lavaderos en donde día a día las mujeres acuden a lavar ropa. Una atractiva cruz tallada en piedra tiene una base rodeada de asientos también de piedra, sirven para descansar y admirar el paisaje.
Acá se combinan calles anchas como las que rodean la plaza con aquellas estrechas, en las cuales sólo es permitido el paso de un vehículo a la vez.
Francisco Antonio Fuentes y Guzmán escribió en su obra literaria Recordación Florida que “era un lugar con buenas cosechas de maíz y mucho provecho de las huertas, de donde abastecen todo el año a la ciudad de Goathemala”.
Varias de esas extensiones de cultivo se han transformado en viviendas, ya que San Pedro Las Huertas es considerado un sitio donde la tranquilidad se conjuga con el pasado.

Antigua is a colonial city in Guatemala, Central America which was founded by Spanish conquerers and Catholic missionaries in 1524. However, there are still remains of a Mayan city on the same location which was much older known as Kakchikel. Antigua is without doubt one of the nicest colonial cities built by the Spanish in Central America. Many churches and houses are built in Baroque style. Although 60,000 people lived in the 1700s. Nowadays 35,000 live in the city. Due to tourism many locals afford a living in the high mountains of Guatemala. There are many churches in the city. However the Santa Catalina Arch is one of the highlights of the city. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Lake Atitlan, San Juan, Food and Coffee Tour | GUATEMALA TRAVEL VLOG
In today's vlog we share our first impressions of the quiet but beautiful coastal town of San Juan La Laguna on Lake Atitlan to try some amazing food and take a Coffee Tour.
In the first half of the video, we head to San Juan in the late afternoon to get a feel of the town and see what is on offer. We found a working coffee plantation and the most beautiful bar set on the lakeside. The next day we headed back to the plantation to try some of the best coffee we have ever tasted, we find an artisanal chocolate producer and eat some amazing food at a fantastic gem of a cafe.

In this episode, I would like to share my cost of living in San Pedro, Guatemala. Since the video is too long, I have to divide it into 2 parts. This video is mainly focus on the food cost. And before dive into it, I will give you an overview of San Pedro, banking and safety.
I stayed in San Pedro from Mid September till the end of December. From September to October, it rained a lot in the afternoon or night time. Morning usually was quiet sunny. There was no more rain from November but December started to get a little windy. So far, the temperature was very comfortable during the day and a little chill at night. If you are from a cold country, the weather is called warm to you. I usually had a jacket with me as I didn't want to get sick.
In the next video, I will talk about how to go to San Pedro, how to go around Lake Atitlan, as well as accommodation.
