Mini trip ideas from Houston: San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site
San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site is a very nice spot to visit as a mini trip. There is a nice Mexican restaurant (Checkout my channel for Mamarita's restaurnat) nearby to make it a good half day trip from Houston.
There is a drive thru monument and a huge ship. Very breath taking.

437-San Jacinto Mtn, Idyllwild Strawberry Valley, One of the Best Small Art Towns in America
Idyllwild, Pine Cove, and Fern Valley are three adjacent unincorporated communities, of which Idyllwild is the largest, located in the San Jacinto Mountains in Riverside County, California, The Idyllwild community also generally includes the hamlets of Mountain Center and Garner Valley.
Mile-high Idyllwild is a popular southern California mountain resort about one mile in altitude. Idyllwild is flanked by two large rocks, Tahquitz Peak (with nearby Lily Rock) and Suicide Rock, which are famous in Southern California rock climbing circles.
One of Idyllwild's attractions is that it offers all four seasons,
yet in winter is only an hour's drive down to the desert on the Pines to Palms Scenic Byway. It currently offers no skiing; thus the Hill has been minimally developed over the years and remains a center for hiking, mountain and rock climbing, and horseback riding.
There are numerous hiking trails for visitors to enjoy,
with the Devils Slide Trail being one of the most popular
as it also branches off with trails that lead to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway; the trail has previously been called the backdoor to Idyllwild.
Idyllwild has earned the designation as one of the 100 Best Small Art Towns in America.
The arts thrive in Idyllwild in the form of art, music, and theater.
Idyllwild was known originally as Strawberry Valley because of the wild strawberries that grow there, especially beside Strawberry Creek that runs through the town.
Strawberry Valley in the San Jacinto Mountains, later the location of the town of Idyllwild, came by its name in the 1860s. When settlers first began putting down roots in that area they found a delicacy the Cahuilla Indians had discovered long before.
The area was carpeted in wild strawberry vines and their delicious fruit. Strawberry Valley was a lovely place to visit, particularly in the summer, but it was very hard to get to..........................................

Hiking San Jacinto from the Palm Springs Tram
San Jacinto is one of the most approachable of the 10,000-foot peaks in Southern California. I always enjoy taking the tram up from the desert to do this 12-mile round trip hike, but don't underestimate it as the elevation is still large so you will be feeling its effects. Once you get to the summit though you get to see amazing views all the way down to the desert floor and it is a pretty amazing experience.

Visiting San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site, Houston TX
About 30 min away from downtown Houston, San Jacinto Battle Monument and Museum is a great place to visit for both history buffs, and ordinary tourists !
The San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site includes the location of the Battle of San Jacinto and the museum ship USS Texas.
A prominent feature of the park is the San Jacinto Monument.
Visitors can take an elevator to the monument's observation deck for a view of Houston, the Houston Ship Channel and USS Texas ! ( but call ahead to ensure the elevator is working... )
The parking at both the monument/museum and at the site of the ship are free ( even though the sites are located within the walking distance ( less than a mile ))...
The museum admission is $12, and includes the ride in the elevator to the observation deck...
