Exploring The BEST Castles of Portugal & Our 1st PROBLEM with the van! | VAN LIFE PORTUGAL
Hi everyone!
In our second van life Portugal road trip vlog, we decided to visit some of the most beautiful castles and towns in Portugal.
First up was Obidos, which is home to Castelo De Obidos (Obidos Castle). This beautiful town was once a walled city, and the walls that protected the castle can now be wandered. Just be warned, there is no barrier, so you need to be careful with the wind.
There is campervan parking at this spot, which is super convenient and useful. It's free parking during the day, and only 5 euro overnight. Yay for Portugal!
When you visit Obidos, you NEED to try the local cherry liquor. You can get a 1 euro sample at a variety of places, but I'm pretty sure you're going to want to buy a bottle, it's delicious!
afterward we headed to the beautiful city of Sintra which is home to a wide range of castles. Because we are limited on time, we only visited two (but 2 of the best!) which is Pena Palacea, a brightly colored romantic castle and it really does ooze romance. I love the fact its red and yellow, it makes for a really unique palace and experience!
We then visited the moorish castle, which you can walk to from Pena Palace (about 15 minutes apart), or you can get a tuk tuk between the two. This offers amazing views over the old town of Sintra and beyond!
After our time in these beautiful towns of Portugal, it was time to head to the Algarve. Unfournatley we had to skip Lisbon this time, as we were running out of time (damn you Brexit). But I have NO doubts we will be back in Portugal one day and return to Lisbon.
I can safely say Portugal is now one of my top 10 countries in the world!

In this video we are having lunch in a local bar in the Alfama District. You will enjoy the colors and the music of the area.
One of the most characteristic districts in Portugal, Alfama is Lisbon’s oldest neighborhood with breathtaking views, unique shops, and home to Fado, the traditional Portuguese music. Spread on the hill between the Tagus river and the emblematic São Jorge Castle, Alfama is a maze of narrow Medieval streets, small squares, and run-down yet charming historical buildings covered in azulejos – the traditional light blue ceramic tilework.
Dating as far back as 1150, Alfama was one of the few neighborhoods in the area to survive the brutal 1755 earthquake, thanks to its sturdy bedrock foundation.

This is where they make wine named after the barn owl Tyto alba. Intriguing and mysterious, the barn owl finds refuge in habitats created by Companhia das Lezírias.
