From its wave-lapped beaches to the craggy peaks of Masada to the mirror-like expanse of the salty Dead Sea, Israel sure does pack a lot of impressive scenery into its compact landscape. The best places in the country include
6. Tiberias
One of the four holy towns in Judaism, Tiberias is located on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee and is a well-liked holiday destination for both Israelis and visitors from other countries. In the area, visitors can take advantage of the adjacent hot springs, the Korazim National Park, which is home to a historic synagogue, and the Tiberias promenade, which plays host to a light show every evening.
5. Negev Desert
The Negev Desert is a place of pure, ethereal magic. The wasteland takes up more than half of Israel's land area and is a beautiful and interesting place, especially for people who have never been there before. You can see a lot on your own, but the best way to learn about the desert is to spend a day with a guide or on a tour. If you don't know what to look for, the endless stretch of the desert may look the same everywhere. However, if you dive a little deeper, you will note that every mound, rock formation, and jagged hill has its own story.

4. Akko
Acre, also known as Akko, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is famous for the preservation of mediaeval Crusader buildings that are linked with ancient Muslim architecture. Its baths, fortress, and mosques have been carefully preserved, and visitors can take a guided tour to see them and learn more about them.
3. Dead Sea
There's a good reason why the Dead Sea is called that. Apart from being the location with the lowest elevation on land, measuring 400 metres or 1,400 feet below sea level, the Dead Sea also has saltiness almost ten times higher than the ocean, making it an extremely inhospitable environment for anything living. The salt and minerals that come from this sea there have been utilised in cosmetics for thousands of years.
2. The Masada
Masada is a rugged natural fortress located in the Judaean Desert, overlooking the Dead Sea. It is a symbol of the ancient kingdom of Israel, its violent destruction and the last stand of Jewish patriots in the face of the Roman army, in 73 A.D. Herod the Great, king of Judea, built it as a palace complex in the style of the early Roman Empire. Today, the camps, fortifications, and attack ramps that surround the site are the most complete Roman siege works still around.
1. Jerusalem
And last but not least, well have Jerusalem, one of the oldest cities in the world. Jerusalem is revered as a sacred city by the world's three most prominent religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Located high in the Judean Mountains, the city over time has been subjected to several sieges, assaults, and captures at the hands of rival political and religious powers.

Israel Active Interest Tour - Day 5
Day 5
Today a different kind of adventure awaits -- a spiritual one.
Drive to Safed (Tzefat), city of mystic synagogues, art and music. If you love art and a mystical atmosphere you could spend a week here. Take the morning to stroll through the picturesque Artist Colony, visiting artists in their galleries and peeking into the old synagogues. At the HaMeiri House Museum you can hear many stories about the special people who used to live in Safed. If you really are adventurous (and male), you can try to bathe in the freezing waters of the Ari Mikveh near the old cemetery, which is believed to bring good luck.
In the afternoon drive along the shore of the Sea of Galilee where, according to Christian tradition, Jesus walked on water.
Continue to the archeological remains of Beit Shean, a city with over 6000 years of history. Climb the ancient tell for a fantastic view and to explore the biblical ruins. Below, visit the huge Roman theater, bathhouse and main street from Byzantine times.
Drive through the Jordan Valley to the area of Ein Gedi on the shore of the Dead Sea.
Overnight: in the Dead Sea area

What's in Northern Israel? (Hiking Mount Meron and Hitting the Beach in Akko)
Safed or Zefat as you’re more likely to see around town, came recommended to me by a cousin living in Israel. It would be a great base for hiking, we were told, so why not spend a couple of nights?
After our all-too-short stay in Palestine, we crossed back into Jerusalem and took the bus north for the mountains, completely unprepared for what Safed had in store for us.
