Pattan minara: Patan Minara is believed to be a 2,000 year old, Some archeologists believe that This structure is 5,000-year-old,Buddhist monastery situated eight kilometers from Rahim Yar Khan city, located in Pakistan. Patan minara was built during Hakrra valley civilization around 250BC. The minara is named after Pattan Pur which is said to have once been a lush city nestled on the bank of the River Ghagra, an offshoot of the River Indus. Pattan Minara thus means ‘Tower on the Ford’It was once the capital of a kingdom in 10 AD as mentioned by Colonel Toy. Some archeologists also believe that the structure was built by Alexander the Great when he passed through this area on his way to India for military expedition. As was his practice, Alexander set up a cantonment here under a Greek governor and tower served for keeping a watchful eye on the local tribes. There is a mystery behind it that there was once treasure hidden in that historical building. By the 18th century when Patan Minara was demolished they discovered a brick with sanskrit written on it. Near by the Patan Minara are still remains of the fort, mosque and tunnels. Colonel Minchin who was the political agent of ex-Bhawalpur state about 110 years ago, passed an order to excavate the place, but during the process of digging the workers came across a semi-liquid swarmed flies that killed them at spot. Due to this event he had to stop the digging. Later during 18th century Fazal Elahi Khan Halani who was a Daupauta chief used it’s remaining to build baghla & Dingar Forte.

We will take you on a tour of Rahim Yar Khan, one of the historical and richest districts of South Punjab. The business district is Rahim Yar Khan in the east, Bahawalpur district in the east, Rajanpur district in the west, Indus River and Muzaffargarh district in the south, while Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan in India and Ghotki district of Pakistan are located in the south. , Patan and Phool were called Wada.
But the present and modern name of this district was given in 1881 in the memory of Prince Rahim Yar Khan of Bahawalpur because Prince Rahim Yar Khan had died in a fire in the ammunition depot of the state of Bahawalpur which will always be remembered. The total area of Rahim Yar Khan city is four thousand one hundred and forty one square kilometers while the total area of this district is eleven thousand eight hundred and eighty square kilometers according to a 2017 survey report. Yar Khan has a total population of 4,814,680. The population of Rahim Yar Khan District is 78.5% in rural areas and only 21.5% of the population is urban.
Rahim Yar Khan District consists of four tehsils including Tehsil Khanpur, Tehsil Liaquatpur, Tehsil Rahim Yar Khan and Tehsil Sadiq Abad. It is said that in ancient times people used to come here from Iraq who named this area Chelistan which over time became Cholistan. It is said that Cholistan was not always a desert about a thousand years ago. It used to be a very lush and fertile region of land where the river Hakra flowed which was a part of Sutlej and Saraswati rivers
Even today, when it rains here, the water flows like a river. The place where water is collected to keep the candles of life burning in Cholistan is called Toba where the rain water collects. And from there humans and animals live their lives by drinking water. According to an estimate, there are more than one thousand such small and big people in Cholistan. For example, Rahim Yar Khan District is also called Gateway of Punjab because it is located at the confluence of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan.
All the main roads from south to Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa pass through this district. Rahim Yar Khan district has an average annual rainfall of 100 mm. The agricultural production of Rahim Yar Khan district is wheat, sugarcane. , Almost every crop is grown, including rice and cotton called white gold.
The agricultural production of this district plays an important role in the economy of the country. It is said that in ancient times people from Arabia used to throw palm fronds wherever they passed by and the dates found here The masterpieces by the women of Cholistan area which are famous not only in this district but in the whole of Pakistan These women make blankets, scarves and sheets with their own hands. Visiting 250 years old houses in Pakistan where people still resides
Today, I am going to visit some old houses in Ahmad Pur Lamma, a town which is situated just outside of Sadiqabad, Pakistan. I was told that these houses were made out of clay and wood and some of them are around 200 to 250 years old.
Although living in Sadiqabad my whole life, I never had a chance to visit them. But when one of my friend, Masood Rao, who is from this area, invited me to visit his old house, I couldn't resist.
