Places to see in ( Ringwood - UK )

Ringwood is an historic market town and civil parish in Hampshire, England, located on the River Avon, close to the New Forest and northeast of Bournemouth. Ringwood has a history dating back to Anglo-Saxon times, and has held a weekly market since the Middle Ages. The town of Ringwood is situated in the southwest of Hampshire, on the border with Dorset.

Ringwood is a town on the east bank of the River Avon in Hampshire. The parish includes the hamlets of Poulner, Hangersley, Hightown, Crow, Kingston, and Bisterne. Ringwood has a weekly market in the traditional market place. A cattle market ran until 1989 in the Furlong, which is now home to a Waitrose supermarket, coffee shops and fashion outlets. Ringwood is the home of the Ringwood Brewery, which produces a variety of cask ales and runs five pubs in the local area, such as the Inn on the Furlong in Ringwood. Ringwood brewery also produces a variety of wines. It was recently taken over by Marston's Brewery, who plan to keep the brewery and all its brands, but lease out its tied public houses.

The main road through Ringwood is the A31, which runs west to Dorchester and east to Southampton via the New Forest. A bypass of the town was completed in two stages; the first to the west in the 1940s. Ringwood railway station opened in 1847. It lay on the Southampton and Dorchester Railway. In 1862 the Ringwood, Christchurch and Bournemouth Railway created a new link with Christchurch. The line to Christchurch was closed in 1935, and the station ceased operating when the Southampton and Dorchester Railway line was closed in 1964.

Places to see in ( Fordingbridge - UK )

Places to see in ( Fordingbridge - UK )

Fordingbridge is a town and civil parish with a population of 6,000 on the River Avon in the New Forest District of Hampshire, England, near to the Dorset and Wiltshire borders and on the edge of the New Forest. It is 81 miles (130 km) southwest of London, and 10 miles (16 km) south of the city of Salisbury. Fordingbridge is a former market town. The Avon Valley Path passes through the town.

Fordingbridge is a town and civil parish in Hampshire on the banks of the River Avon. The first Great Bridge, from which the town received its present name, was built in mediaeval times, and is upstream from the ford. The bridge is a major feature of the town with its seven graceful arches, which can be seen very easily from the town's large riverside park where one can walk along the riverbank draped with willows and waterside plants. Close by is a children's play area, secluded memorial gardens, parks and sports playing fields. A bronze statue of the painter Augustus John stands on the banks of the Avon near the Great Bridge.

Not far from the High Street is the parish church of St. Mary the Virgin which has some typical Norman characteristics. Lands in Fordingbridge and the advowson of the church were granted to King's College, Cambridge in 1447 by Henry VI, after being given to the Crown by Humphrey, Duke of Buckingham.

The Fordingbridge Museum, which houses local history exhibits, and the Visitor Information Centre are located in King's Yard. There is also a Roman villa in the nearby village of Rockbourne, which is open to visitors during the summer. The local comprehensive school is The Burgate School And Sixth Form Centre, which is situated in Burgate, a small hamlet to the north of the town. Fordingbridge Hospital is a small community hospital on the site of a Victorian workhouse. Most of the old buildings remain but the inpatient ward is a more recent addition. The town's medical centre is on the same site in Bartons Road

Since 1982 Fordingbridge has been twinned with Vimoutiers in Normandy. Fordingbridge is also home to Fordingbridge Turks FC, one of the 50 oldest football clubs in England, established circa 1868. The Turks name seems to derive from wishing to emulate the determination shown by Ottoman forces at Siege of Plevna. The recreation ground is also home to Fordingbridge Rugby Club, who have been one of the more successful Hampshire clubs in recent years.

The parish of Fordingbridge contains the hamlets of Burgate to the north, Criddlestyle to the east, Bickton to the south, and Ashford to the west. Burgate and Bickton are settlements dating back to the time of the Domesday Book, and in fact Bickton was a larger settlement than Fordingbridge in 1086. Criddlestyle is an ancient manor, also known as East Mill, with a history dating back to the 14th century. The largest hamlet today is Ashford, which was the location of an ancient watermill, and was the location of Fordingbridge railway station until it was closed in 1964.

The first bridge at Fordingbridge was built before 1252, when the bailiff and men of the town received a grant of pontage for one year towards its repairs. A custom which survived until 1840 obliged the lord of Fordingbridge during one summer month known as fence month to keep the bridge guarded and arrest anyone found taking venison from the New Forest.

10 Most Hated Towns in England

What are the most hated towns in England? No matter how good a country is, every part of it can’t be loved equally. In fact, some parts of it are bound to be hated. Even the most fanatic lover of a country will love some parts of it less than others. I have heard some people complaining about some towns in England, the home of the Queen that some people are dying to live and work in. That prompts research into the 10 most hated towns in England.
This ranking is based mainly on the comments and complaints of residents of England and visitors to those towns. But it’s not limited to that since some complaints can be completely baseless. We dig deeper in researching these 10 most hated towns in England.
10. Slough
Let’s begin with Slough, a town in Berkshire, within the historic county of Buckinghamshire. This town is 20 miles west of central London and 19 miles northeast of Reading. You will find the town in the Thames Valley and within the London metropolis around the area at the intersection of the M4.
In spite of its location, Slough according to those visitors, is a town whose streets are littered with empty takeaway and full of packets or empty beer cans. This assertion hasn’t been contradicted by even just one resident. The quality of food in the town’s restaurants appears, kind of, made for losers who’re just out to eat as much unhealthy food as they can get away with.
9. Scunthorpe
It’s not desirable to find Scunthorpe among the most hated towns in England. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to take it out of our list because the facts obviously place it there. This industrial town in the unitary authority of North Lincolnshire should normally be the pride of Lincolnshire as its main administrative center. But the town with an estimated population of 82,334 in 2016 had many things going against it.
Residents of the UK’s largest steel processing center, also known as the Industrial Garden Town, are frustrated by a lack of the liveliness and diversity in the town only known for work. However, the loudest grouse that lists Scunthorpe alongside the most hated towns in England is the indiscriminate censorship and blocking of websites for spurious reasons.

Druitt Gardens - The Practical Traveller's guide to places to visit in Christchurch UK

Hi and welcome to another practical traveller’s guide. Today we are looking at Druitt Gardens and Hall in Christchurch, Dorset.
Christchurch, on the south coast of England is a town and borough. It’s sandwiched between Bournemouth in the west and the New Forest to the east. Steeped in history it is definitely a place to visit if you find yourself in Dorset.
A particular favourite place with locals is Druitt Gardens which occupies approximately 1.20 hectares in the centre of Christchurch. Unless you know its there as a visitor to Christchurch you might miss it which would be a real shame. It’s a fantastic place to go for a walk, have a picnic, let the kids run around and enjoy the wildlife. Two protected species, Bats and Stag Beetles have been found in the gardens and their habitat must be preserved.
With several entrances is very easy to access. You will probably find the one down the side of the library in the middle of the High Street easiest if you are visiting the area. There are two open grassy areas, several paths and Druitt Hall is located in the north of the area
Druitt Hall was built with public subscription in 1953 to commemorate the Coronation, and it’s a fantastic example of 1950’s architecture.

In 2012 an application to demolish Druitt Hall was submitted by Christchurch Borough Council. Luckily The Friends of Druitt Hall fought a hard campaign to save the hall and in 2014, after much work the Council granted a 3-year Lease to Druitt Hall Community Association.

In September of that year the hall was 're-launched' sporting a newly-painted interior and exterior, new ladies toilets and sanded and re-varnished floors. Today the hall is well used for events, clubs, craft fairs, local produce markets and more. There is always something going on there so pop in if you get a chance.

Druitt gardens are a wonderful place to visit if you want to get away from it all, enjoy the wildlife and watch the world go by.
Be sure to check out the description for lots of link to useful places such as accommodation and food options as well as links to other vlogs of places to visit in Christchurch and surrounding area.

Ringwood Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Hampshire, and around 20 miles west of Southampton, is the town of Ringwood.

Geographically, Ringwood is situated along the River Avon, and on the western fringe of the New Forest National Park. The first recorded reference dates from 961 AD when King Edgar gave 22 hides of land in 'Rimecuda' to Abingdon Abbey. The name derives from Old English: 'rimuc' and 'wudu', meaning 'edge of the wood', intuitively enough.

In 1226 a market charter was granted to Ringwood by Henry III. Industries in Ringwood have included brewing and glove-making.

In 1685 James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth launched an ill-fated rebellion against King James II. Following the Battle of Sedgemoor of that year, Monmouth escaped from the battlefield and hid in a ditch under an ash tree near Ringwood. A local woman revealed his presence to those searching for him, and he was detained. Prior to being sent to the Tower of London, he was held in the house seen around the 17-minute mark. His beheading was botched and the job had to be finished with a knife.

In 1847 a railway station opened in Ringwood. It formed part of the Southampton and Dorchester Railway, which was noted for skipping Bournemouth and stopping short of Weymouth, reflecting the smaller degree of significance of coastal towns in the first half of the 19th century, which was soon to change. In 1964 Ringwood station was closed to passengers, and later closed to freight in 1967 as part of the notorious Beeching cuts where over 2000 stations across the country were lost in a controversial move to promote road travel.

During the 1850s the Church of St Peter and St Paul was built on Market Place on the site of an older 13th century church.

Today the main form of public transport in Ringwood is bus. Direct services run to and from Bournemouth, Salisbury and Southampton.
