S1 – Ep 477 – Petrus Steyn, Free State!
The journey from Reitz to Petrus Steyn in the Free State was a picturesque drive, showcasing stunning scenery along the route. Upon arrival in Petrus Steyn, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the town exceeded our expectations in size. Exploring its streets and arriving at the old station building was a delightful experience. In the town center, at Dirkie Uys Square, we encountered intriguing monuments and learned about the family cemetery of Petrus Steyn himself, prompting us to seek it out. The rich history of this well-kept town left us in awe. #DustBugs #dustbugstravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #petrussteyn #freestate #reitz

S1 – Ep 379 – Paulpietersburg – Discovering the Captivating Kruger Bridge!
Our trip to Paulpietersburg was a peaceful journey filled with scenic views of lush forestry plantations and bustling logging activity. As we meandered through the town, we were pleasantly surprised by the well-maintained cricket oval, which brought smiles to our faces. Our exploration continued as we stopped by the train station and later the Natal Spa. We found the Spa a bit pricey for just a 15-minute visit, so we decided against that. However, our day took an exciting turn when we stumbled upon the magnificent Kruger Bridge, a National Monument. Discovering its rich history was truly captivating and added a special touch to our visit. To conclude our trip, we enjoyed a scenic drive through the picturesque eDumbe Dam Park, making our visit to Paulpietersburg a memorable and enriching experience. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #kwazulunatal #paulpietersburg #krugerbridge

S1 - Ep 18.2 – We discovered Garcia’s Pass outside Riversdale!
The road from Ladismith to Riversdale was the surprise. The race we had with the Ostrich was fun and we did not expect to find Garcia’s Pass, I didn’t even know it existed. This was a gem we discovered. The winding road and the views were breathtaking. Enjoy! #dustbugs #travel #southafrica #offroad #ostrich

Toeka Stoor - Memorabilia that will Mesmerise you!
People from all walks of life and with widely differing interests all find Toeka Stoor is a fascinating place to visit.
Toeka is an Afrikaans word that is difficult to translate. Google Translate’s best efforts are “past”, “gone by” and “long ago” which starts to give an idea what can be expected when visiting this amazing collection. Other translations could be “yesteryear” or “bygone”. The authors of South Africa’s biggest bilingual dictionary clearly also struggled with the translation and the best they could come up with was: “from the year one” or “from time immemorial”.
Stoor simply refers to a store, warehouse or barn of which there are actually more than one on the farm, including lots of items on display outdoors.
The owners, dr Johan van Deventer and his wife, Gesie (currently the Mayor of Drakenstein Municipality) both admit that they suffer from the same “disease”, being suckers for punishment when it comes to antiques. The amazingly diverse collection reflects exactly this, revealing that they must have attended numerous auctions in the past.
Some of the descriptions for Toeka Stoor found on the internet include:
“Toeka Stoor is the Afrikaans name for the Van Deventer's fascinating warehouse of antiques. The collection stretches across various buildings, which also double as a coffee shop serving light meals and function venue. There's a play area for children, clad with de-commissioned road-signs and enough to keep fascinated adults busy too: vintage cars, an old steam engine, antique sewing machines and many more. Every single thing here has a story.”
“Toeka offers a travel into the past with antique tractors, old farm equipment, great food. A place for family and friends, full of peace and tranquillity. Toeka takes you down memory lane with antique tractors, old farming equipment, vintage cars and great food. A place for family and friends to experience the peace and tranquillity of yesteryear.”
“If you are fascinated by 'stuff' from years gone by, there is a whole barn and yard to explore at Toeka Stoor on the farm Domaine Brahms, north-west of Paarl.”
“Toeka Stoor is full of 'goeters' (memorabilia) to mesmerise you and some of it is even for sale. You can also join them for breakfast, light lunches and/or something to drink.”
S1 – Ep 350 – Hartswater – A Touching Monument Honouring Women!
Our trip to Hartswater was truly memorable and welcoming. The Poplar trees lining the road, a unique sight found and the longest of its kind in the world, created a picturesque drive. The small, adorable church at the town's entrance was a touching monument honouring women who played a significant role during the depression and when the Vaalharts Water Scheme began. As we explored further, the bustling activity in the town was heartening to witness, and we were pleasantly surprised to stumble upon a lively golf tournament at the town's Golf Course. The schools and sports facilities were in excellent condition, a testament to the town's dedication to maintaining their community. Even in the church they were sanding down the pews for varnishing before the next service. Hartswater left a lasting impression of a functional agricultural town filled with hardworking and caring individuals, making our visit truly special. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #northerncape #hartswater

Like Heilbron and Kroonstad in the ORC, it was located in the maize-growing belt of the highveld, but on the north bank of the Vaal River, in the Transvaal, sloping down to the river. It was already in existence when the first civilian inspection took place on 19 February 1901 but it probably started about September 1900 (Dr. Kendal Franks dated it from December 1900). G.W. Goodwin, then chief superintendent of the Transvaal camps, reported in February 1901 that the people were of a ‘superior class’ and appeared in good health, happy and contented. If this was the case, it may have been due to the first superintendent, Captain Bentinck, a remarkably capable man. But the people themselves, many of them employees and tenants of Sammy Marks’s Vereeniging Estates Company, had benefited from the burgeoning markets of the goldfields and were probably relatively affluent. Dr. Kendal Franks, who visited the camp in September 1901, thought them ‘a superior class of burgher, better educated and more advanced in the manners and arts of civilization’. Their tents were often well furnished, some with carpets, and the inmates were active, sewing, making jam tarts and the like. One benefit from the association with the Vereeniging Estates Company was the lavish supply of coal so the inmates were never short of fuel. Like the wiser superintendents, Bentinck had immediately adopted the ration scale which included meat and food was always fairly plentiful and good.-Reference:Website:-
Exploring The Old Du Toitskloof Pass (R101/N1) - Views Of Table Mountain, Paarl Rock And Kasteelberg
Driving the N1 from Worcester to Cape Town I explored the old Du Toitskloof Pass (R101), splitting off from the N1 just before the Huguenot Tunnel. Once at the top the views over the coastal plateau towards Cape Town, Table Mountain and the West Coast, as well as towards Paarl and Paarl Rock, can be spectacular, especially on sunny days

Gautrain is an 80-kilometre (50-mile) express commuter rail system in Gauteng, South Africa, which links Johannesburg, Pretoria, Ekurhuleni and O.R. Tambo International Airport. It takes 15 minutes to travel from Sandton to O.R. Tambo International Airport on the Gautrain and +- 1.30 minutes from Pretoria in Tshwane to Park Station in Johannesburg. The Gautrain has 10 stations. Buses, shuttles and minibus services are available to transport passengers to and from all stations excluding the O.R. Tambo International Airport Station.
Today we are taking the longest route... from Park station in Johannesburg to Hatfield in Pretoria, but is was not without problems.
