How to Visit all California National Parks in one Road Trip - Including Top Things to Do ! [4k]

@outandabout_channel
Welcome adventurers! Embark on a once-in-a-lifetime journey exploring six of California's most iconic national parks. In this itinerary we will land at San Francisco international airport, rent a car, and drive for 11 days to explore these six national parks. The journey ends at flying out from Los Angles international airport. The six park that we will explore are: Lassen volcanic national park, Yosemite national park, kings canyon national park, sequoia national park, death valley national park, and Joshua tree national park.

Overall we will travel around 1500 miles excluding any travel within the park. Further, we will also cover the top attractions in the park and preferred locations to stay for this itinerary. At the end of the video we will also show some alternate itineraries to shave off few days if you have limited time. So lets hit the road and dive into this unforgettable itinerary packed with must-visit attractions and tips.

Day 1- This is the day when you reach San Francisco and you drive about 4 hours towards Lassen Volcanic National Park. The recommended place to stay for Lassen is Red Bluff that is about 45 minutes from the parks entrance.

Day 2- Lassen Volcanic National Park, a hidden gem in Northern California, offers a unique blend of volcanic landscapes and serene natural beauty. Known for its geothermal wonders, the park is a paradise for adventurers, nature lovers, and those seeking a peaceful escape from crowded destinations. From steaming fumaroles to crystal-clear lakes, Lassen’s diverse terrain showcases the raw power and beauty of nature.

Day 3 - This is the driving day towards Yosemite National park and the drive is around 5 hrs. The recommended place to stay for Yosemite is El Portal that is about 30 minutes from the parks entrance.

Day 4 - Yosemite National Park, located in California’s Sierra Nevada, is a crown jewel of natural beauty and one of the most iconic destinations in the United States. Famous for its towering granite cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and ancient sequoias, Yosemite offers breathtaking scenery and diverse outdoor activities for all types of adventurers.

Day 5 - This is the driving day towards Kings Canyon park and the drive is around 3 hrs. The recommended place to stay for Kings Canyon and Sequoia is at one of the accommodations inside the park.
This one, Montecito sequoia lodge is a good one which is inside the park and also provides meals. The nearest city is close to an hour so it is best to stay within the park when visiting kings canyon and sequoia.

Day 6 - Kings Canyon National Park, a hidden gem in California’s Sierra Nevada, is a paradise of deep canyons, lush meadows, towering granite cliffs, and giant sequoias. Often overshadowed by its neighbor, Sequoia National Park, Kings Canyon offers rugged wilderness and unparalleled tranquility, making it a favorite for adventurers seeking solitude and breathtaking landscapes.

Day 7 - Sequoia National Park, located in California’s southern Sierra Nevada, is a land of towering giants and breathtaking natural beauty. Famous for its groves of massive sequoia trees, including the world-renowned General Sherman Tree, this park offers visitors a chance to connect with ancient forests, explore dramatic landscapes, and marvel at the wonders of nature.

Day 8 - This is the driving day Death Valley National park and the drive is around 6 hrs. The recommended place to stay for Death Valley is Lone Pine or accommodations inside the park, if available

Day 9 and 10 - Since death valley National Park is very large it can take hours to go from one location to another, hence two days are recommended for this park. Death Valley National Park, spanning California and Nevada, is a land of extremes and contrasts. Known as the hottest, driest, and lowest national park in North America, its diverse landscapes include sprawling salt flats, colorful badlands, towering sand dunes, rugged mountains, and even hidden oases. Despite its harsh reputation, Death Valley is a place of stunning beauty and fascinating geological wonders, making it a must-visit destination for adventurous travelers.

Day 11 - This is the last day of this itinerary. On this day you can drive back towards Los Angeles airport via Joshua tree national park. Joshua tree is about 4 hours from Death Valley and Los Angeles airport is further 3 hrs away. Total travelling time on the last day will be about 7 hours, and you also have an option to split this into 2 days.

That is the end of the trip and back to the airport. If you have limited time these are the following three alternate itineraries and the corresponding time it will take. You can skip Lassen and shave off two days from the itinerary. Skip Death valley and shave off 3 days. Skip both Lassen and Death Valley and shave off 5 days.

Amtrak Track a Train tool:

So where exactly do Amtrak trains go in the United States? This video is an in-depth look at where Amtrak can take you, and how you can use Amtrak and its connecting services to get around America.

To get around America and travel between the cities on this map, sometimes it’s a single ride on one train and sometimes it isn’t. Most importantly, there’s no coast-to-coast service. So if you want to travel from, say, New York to Los Angeles, you’ll have to transfer. Most transfers between the east and the west part of the country are done in Chicago, which is a major Amtrak hub. You can also transfer in New Orleans.

The best way to figure out exactly how to get from place to place on Amtrak is to let them decide. When you buy tickets on the Amtrak website, you just put in your starting and ending points and it will give you whatever options there are. Often there aren’t really as many options as you’d think, assuming you want as few transfers as possible. For example, despite all the Amtrak lines in the northeast, there’s only one direct route between Boston and Chicago, and only two between New York and Chicago.

Speaking of the northeast, this is arguably the best-served area of the United States. Compared to other parts of the country, quite a few shorter and more specialized routes exist here. So you can take the Keystone Service between New York and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; or the Pennsylvanian between New York and Pittsburgh. The Downeaster goes between Boston and Brunswick, Maine. From New York, the Adirondack and Maple Leaf take you to Montreal and Toronto, respectively. So, if you’re traveling around the northeast on Amtrak, you’re fairly well covered.

What if you want to go from Washington DC to Denver? In this case you’ll need two trains, either the Cardinal or the Capitol Limited to Chicago, and then the California Zephyr to Denver.

Now, while there are a lot of major and some not-so-major cities on this map, and thus ways to travel between them on Amtrak, there are obviously some gaps. We already saw how Amtrak doesn’t even enter Wyoming or South Dakota at all, and other states like New Hampshire, Tennessee, and Delaware just barely. And what about major destinations Amtrak *does* go, like Atlanta? Only one route passes through Atlanta, the Crescent. That means there’s no easy way to get between Atlanta and… Chicago, or Florida, or Nashville. New Orleans and Washington DC, those are pretty much your only options from Atlanta. In fact Amtrak doesn’t go anywhere near Nashville. Nor does it go to Phoenix, or Las Vegas, or Boise or Twin Falls, or Augusta Maine. And on and on.

The good news is that Amtrak partners with various transportation services, usually buses, around the country to provide access to many more destinations. This map, which is on the Amtrak website, shows these connecting routes in green. Amtrak calls them Thruway services. This is how you can fill in a lot of the gaps in Amtrak’s main train routes, and get to Las Vegas, or to Phoenix, or Montgomery Alabama, or Sarasota, or Nashville, or way up through Wisconsin and Michigan. This is how you explore more of Oregon and Colorado, and Kentucky and Ohio… and yes, how you can use Amtrak to move around the great state of Wyoming.

See you on the rails!

California: 1 Day in Redwood National & State Parks | Drive-Thru Tree, Avenue of the Giants, & MORE!

California: 1 Day in Redwood National & State Parks | Drive-Thru Tree, Avenue of the Giants, & MORE!

Welcome to state #45 on our journey to all 50 states… California! For our time in the Golden State, we spent one day road-tripping up the Pacific Coast Highway through the Redwoods! Consisting of one national park (Redwood National Park) and three state parks (Del Norte Coast, Jedediah Smith, and Prairie Creek), the Redwood park system is the only one of its kind being jointly managed by both the National Park Service and the California Department of Parks and Recreation. And while it’s impossible to see and do everything in the 139,000 acres of the Redwoods park system in one day (or even one week!), we were able to hit some of the must-see spots like, Chandelier Tree, Avenue of the Giants, Lady Bird Johnson Grove, Stout Grove, and more!

Check out our “Must-See Stops in the Redwoods” blog for tips on planning your visit!

Lake Red Bluff is no more!

Red Bluff Diversion Dam is a disused irrigation diversion dam on the Sacramento River in Tehama County, California, United States, southeast of the city of Red Bluff. Until 2013, the dam provided irrigation water for two canals that serve 150,000 acres of farmland on the west side of the Sacramento Valley. The dam and canals are part of the Sacramento Canals Unit of the Central Valley Project, operated by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. In 2013, the dam was decommissioned and the river allowed to flow freely through the site in order to protect migrating fish. A pumping plant constructed a short distance upstream now supplies water to the canal system.

Scenic motorcycle ride EP 4, Red Bluff CA. - Klamath CA June 15, 2022. From the Rockies to PNW

EP 4...Day 5 ---- Red Bluff CA. - Klamath CA June 15 2022.
Today our multi-state journey takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the Majestic Redwood Forest.

From Red Bluff CA. we head north on I-5 then to Redding and then West on HWY 299 towards the Coast.
The road twists and turns through river valleys and mountain passes.
A must for any motorcycle rider.
Hwy 299 connects with Hwy 101, we head north and spend some time on Little River State Beach for a break then it's northbound to the Redwoods.
I hope to go back there soon with a better camera. The P&S I bought for the trip was a major disappointment. I sold it back to B&H photo video and plan to buy a better camera in February when the new models come out. But at least I had the gopro and it did better than expected, the operator on the other hand needs more practice. ;)
The next morning we woke to rain. lots of rain. It cleared up a bit for a while but the next few days were downpours.

In the next video we head to - Albany OR by way of Hwy 101 & Hwy 126 & I-5. We stop along the coast at Harris Beach State Park, Arch Rock State Park, & Gold beach before having to change our plans and go inland to Albany because of A LOT of rain coming in.

Watch for the next segment of the journey soon.
From the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Northwest.
Thank you for watching.
