I traveled through India on three different trips, and in this video I will share with you my personal top 10 places to visit in this magnificent country. The footage in this mini documentary was mostly shot in 2014, and can function as a travel guide.

We begin this journey in Amritsar, and more specifically in the mesmerizing Golden Temple. Located in the spiritual heartland of the Sikh community, this is one of India’s most famous icons. The nearby kitchen is also very interesting to visit, and don’t miss the Wagah border ceremony, where soldiers from both India and Pakistan perform an entertaining border closing show.
Rajasthan is a beautiful province that can be explored for weeks, with stunning hilltop forts and royal palaces, in places like Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Udaipur, and Jaipur. The bazaars and street markets, where many people do their (grocery) shopping, are also a joy to explore. After Rajasthan, we travel to Agra, to visit India’s tourism symbol, the awe-inspiring Taj Mahal.
Mumbai is one of India’s most dynamic and interesting cities. Often considered as the commercial capital of the country, the city bursts with energy and creativity. While there are many impressive buildings to admire (mosques, temples, colonial architecture), it’s the city’s atmosphere that really draws tourists and travelers to Mumbai.
Tamil Nadu is a distinctly different province from many others places in India, and is characterized by charming coastal villages, pilgrimage sites, and beautiful Hindu temples. The South Indian food is also delicious, and shouldn’t be missed. We travel onwards to Kolkata, thought of as a intellectual and cultural powerhouse. It’s a lively city, with stunning architecture, beautiful (flower) markets, and also modern shopping malls. Other places to visit are the British colonial Victoria Memorial, the horse racing tracks, and many parks where people play cricket all day long.
Dharamsala (or McLeod Ganj) is the seat of the Tibetan government in exile, and almost feels like a Little Tibet. This is where the Dalai Lama lives, and many monks and pilgrims regularly visit. Hyderabad, in central India, is an IT hub like Bangalore, and provides a great insight in the country’s growing digital economy.
Delhi is the political capital, and really a destination in itself. It’s a major business and transport hub and attracts people from all over India to work, study, and live. We finish this journey in Odisha province, an often overlooked region that boasts some of India’s most beautiful temple complexes, a welcoming attitude, and a relaxed beach vibe.

1.Chitrakote Falls The Chitrakote Falls is a natural waterfall located to the west of Jagdalpur, in Bastar district in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh on the Indravati River. It is located at a distance of 38 kilometres to the west of Jagdalpur.
2.Maitri Bagh The Maitri Bagh Zoo is located in the Bhilai, India. It Is the biggest zoo in the region. The zoo comprises 111 acres of park lands. It is run by the Public Sector Undertaking, Steel Authority of India Limited.
3.Teerathgarh Falls The Teerathgarh Falls is a waterfall at Kanger Ghati in Bastar district in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh.
4.Sanjay National Park The Sanjay National Park is located in Chhattisgarh, and in the Sidhi District and Singrauli district of the State of Madhya Pradesh state, India. It is a part of the Sanjay-Dubri Tiger Reserve system. The park covers 466.7 km².
5.Danteshwari Temple Danteshwari Temple is temple dedicated to Goddess Danteshwari, and is one of the 52 Shakti Peethas, shrines of Shakti, the divine feminine, spread across India.
6.Amritdhara falls Amrit Dhara is a natural waterfall in a located in Koriya district, state of Chhattisgarh, India. It originates from the Hasdeo River, which is a tributary of the Mahanadi River. The fall is situated at a distance of 17 km from Chirmiri.
7.Maa Bamleshwari Temple Bambleshwari Temple is at Dongargarh in Rajnandgaon district, Chhattisgarh, India. It is on a hilltop of 1600 feet. This temple is referred as Badi Bambleshwari. Another temple at ground level, the Chhotti Bambleshwari is situated about 1/2 km from the main temple complex. These temples are revered by lakhs of people of Chhattisgarh who flock around the shrine during the Navratris of Kavar (during Dashera) and Chaitra (during Ram Navami). 1. Ghatarani Waterfall
Located 85 km from the city of Raipur is Ghatarani Waterfalls, the largest in the state of Chattisgarh. Surrounded by lush greenery, this breathtaking sight is a popular picnic spot. Ghatarani Waterfalls is a favourite picnic spot to go to on the weekend along with your friends and family. A small trek through a forest would lead you to this beautiful natural beauty. At the bottom of the waterfall lies a naturally formed pool. Enjoy a swim, play with your fam, or unwind in the pool. Although the waterfall's beauty enriches in the rainy season – when the water is in full flow – it is best to avoid going during this time because of slippery terrains and mudslides.
2. Nandan Van Zoo
Nandan Van Zoo, located at Naya Raipur, is one of the famous places of visit in the city. With its primary objective to protect and conserve animals, the zoo has many species of fauna. There are jungle safari and boating rides and is a perfect spot to spend the day with kids. It is fascinating to watch the animals wander around the jungle.
3. Swami Vivekanand Sarovar
Swami Vivekanand Sarovar is also called Burha Thalab which means old lake. Fenced by a number of trees, especially palm trees, it is a tranquil place to visit. There are several food stalls just outside the park that provide cheap and good quality street food. Apart from that, the lake is a popular picnic spot and a joggers paradise. The best time to visit the lake is in the evening, just before sunset.
4. Mahant Ghasi Museum
Located near the Kutchery Chowk intersection, Mahant Ghasi Memorial Museum is small but packed with rich history of Raipur city. This well- maintained museum boasts an impressive collection of tribal artefacts, inscriptions, coins, carvings, models, and other things related to anthropology and natural history. You get to learn a lot about Raipur's past, its culture and how it went on to become the big city it is in the present times. Entry fee to the museum is INR 5.
