Randazzo It rises on the north side of Etna, 765 m above sea level, on the last lava bank of a prehistoric flow, eroded by the waters of the Alcantara, which flows at the foot of the aforementioned edge. It is a strategic hub from which the centers of Catania (65 km), Messina (73 km), and Enna (105 km) are easily reachable. It has two main hamlets: Montelaguardia (east of the town) and Murazzo Rotto (west of the town).
The territory has a vast exclave called Spanò located on the border with the province of Enna, between the municipalities of Adrano, Centuripe, Regalbuto and Troina.

Lago Gurrida - Randazzo - Sicily - Etna Park
Lake Gurrida is a small semi-natural basin formed by the waters of the Flascio river. We are in the municipality of Randazzo, on the slopes of Etna, on the edge of the long Alcantara valley that separates the volcano from the Nebrodi Mountains.
Although the lake is 800 meters above sea level, the imposing mass of Etna, whose northern side can be seen, overlooks the plateau with all its immensity. On clear days the majestic shape of the volcano is reflected almost entirely on the lake surface.
Although included within a private land belonging to the Gurrida farm, the lake falls within the competence of the Etna Park. The Park Authority has prepared a nature trail that follows its perimeter, arranging some huts for the observation of avian fauna. Periodically, various migratory species such as heron, stork, ducks or egrets stop here. Reptiles and amphibians complement the local fauna, making the trek around the lake particularly interesting. The remains of ancient lava flows can be easily identified from the most panoramic points. It is these rock masses that interrupted the course of the river in 1536, starting the swampy flooding of the area.
No less interesting is the vineyard that you cross before reaching the banks of the artificial basin. During winter and at the beginning of spring, especially in the years in which Etna was covered by heavy snow, the waters of the lake overflow from the artificial basin that contains them and flood the cultivated fields, creating an extremely suggestive scenario. It seems that this phenomenon, which has been repeated annually since time immemorial, has helped to preserve an indigenous species of vine by defending it from the devastating phylloxera infestations that in the past destroyed much of the island's vineyards.
To reach Lake Gurrida you have to take the state road 120 which from Randazzo proceeds in the direction of Maniace. At kilometer 181 on the left there is a small clearing and the remains of an indication. After passing a stone quarry, you will reach the farm which, as mentioned, must be crossed. For admission you pay (little) a ticket (especially on weekends) and you can take the opportunity to visit the ancient farm faithful to the Sicilian tradition. Lately the area has been a bit abandoned but this hasn't diminished its charm, on the contrary it has added a touch of wilderness that doesn't hurt. Waiting to be enhanced again.
The video was shot in 2019. The footage was mostly taken with an Olympus OM-D EM5 MKII, including the two short timelapses. A couple of moving clips were filmed with a GoPro Hero 7 while drone footage is shot with a Mavic Air.
The photos are by Francesca Sparatore and were taken with a Nikon D3100.
The song “After All” is by Geographer and is available in the YouTube music library.
Special thanks to the Gurrida company.

The ancient village, dating back to the fifteenth century, is the most fascinating part of the city.
Here you will find the Viceroy and Governor’s Palace, the Polyphemus Cave and several historic churches.
Walking through the streets of the ancient village, you can breathe the atmosphere of the past and you can get lost in the shady streets and houses of the center.
The beaches of Milazzo and its surroundings, such as Spiaggia di Ponente, are appreciated by local residents.
The Spiaggia di Ponente offers equipped and free stretches, clear waters and fine sand.
The Venus Pool, a beautiful natural pool between the rocks, offers a unique experience for snorkeling and relaxation.
For those who want to make a short stop in Milazzo during the trip to the Aeolian Islands, the IllusionVille Museum is an interesting attraction dedicated to illusions.
To reach Milazzo, from Messina it takes a little over half an hour along the A20 motorway towards Palermo, exiting at the Milazzo - Aeolian Islands exit.
From Catania or Fontanarossa airport, follow the A18 motorway to Messina and then continue on the A20, with a journey of about an hour and 30 minutes.

Sicily, the largest Mediterranean island, is just off the toe of Italy's boot. Its rich history is reflected in sites like the Valley of the Temples, the well-preserved ruins of 7 monumental, Doric-style Greek temples, and in the Byzantine mosaics at the Cappella Palatina, a former royal chapel in capital city Palermo. On Sicily’s eastern edge is Mount Etna, one of Europe’s highest active volcanoes.

Sicily Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Sicily in Italy.
Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean and the most diverse region in Italy, a land of gods and natural forces and a place of ancient cultures.Catania, in the northeast of the island, is Sicily’s second largest city that has been strongly influenced by earthquakes and also the volcanic activity of Mount Etna. It is believed that Greek settlers from Chalkidi founded it and some centuries later, it was conquered by the Romans and later, the Arabs brought the city a new wave of prosperity.Noto is a charming town with around 20,000 inhabitants. It is one of the most beautiful enclosed Baroque towns in Sicily. However, many of Noto’s historic buildings have been neglected for many years and are in somewhat less than perfect condition. The Cathedrale Di San Nicolo also fell into disrepair as a result of continued neglect and this caused both its dome and part of its roof to collapse in 1996.A proud and mighty volcano rises above eastern Sicily. Mount Etna, the largest volcano in Europe, is the undisputed ruler of this fascinating Mediterranean island. The snow on the summit region of Etna obscures the fact that deep within the volcano is an unimaginable natural furnace with a temperature of around 1,000 degrees Celsius.Marsala was given its name by the Arabs who called it ‘Marsal-Allah’, ‘God’s Harbor’. The monumental city gate is a reminder of the landing of Giuseppe Garibaldis on the 8th of March, 1860.In the mountain area close to Palermo, another wonderful city featured on our journey, is the picturesque town of Monreale, a townscape that for more than 800 years, has been dominated by a single building. Monreale Cathedral was built due to a struggle for power between the Bishop of Palermo and the Norman King, William.Sicily is exquisite. An ancient island of both discovery and pleasure.
