Two miles off Route 3 on a well maintained logging road, you will find this wonderfully pristine watershed. Moose commonly come to the edges to graze on the aquatic grasses. Overhead the Blue Heron flies while small brook trout rise to feed on hatching insects. East Inlet is an ideal spot for canoeing. Paddle up the feeder brook to Norton Pool. Donated to the Nature Conservancy by the paper company, the East Inlet area has one of the few remaining virgin stands of forest in the east. Truly a special place in our vast northern forest.

While the hike up Prospect Mountain was super easy, finding the trailhead wasn't... It's located on Danforth Road, just at the start of the left side of the fork you can see on this map: . The road is pretty rough and you'll probably need a car with good ground clearance. There's a small path into the woods heavily marked with yellow blazes, follow those. The trail really only goes one way and you will eventually come to Prospect Mountain Trail which is up the hill and to the left.
Apparently, it is possible to drive up the mountain from the other side, but I've heard the road described as kinda sketchy, and the hike is well worth it.

Camping in the North Woods of New Hampshire
I drove north past the White Mountains and past Mount Washington. I kept driving north until almost Canada, to the beautiful north woods of New Hampshire. Ramblewood Campground, site number 10 was my place to stay. It was very near to Moose Alley on Route 3 and the several lakes in the area. This video is my attempt to recreate the feeling of being in this beautiful woodland region.
