SANCHAUNG - IMMERSION (YANGON) - BIKE EXPLORATION IN MYANMAR
In this 12mns immersive video, I take you to the Sanchaung district, one of the most popular and populated areas of Yangon. This district of 2.5 kms² is inhabited by 65.300 people (according to the last source dating from the year 2000) but has at least reached 100.000 inhabitants since 20 years. I did not find more recent sources on the Internet. Don't hesitate to comment if you have more accurate figures about it.
Sanchaung is very attractive by its affordable rents, its many restaurants, bars and shops. It is often the preferred place for expatriates when they arrive in Yangon. The neighborhood allows expatriates to fully immerse themselves in local life and to meet the Burmese people who are very welcoming and helpful.
Popular with tourists, Sanchaung offers an alternative to the city center and especially the 19th street for nightlife. Lots of bars and delicious BBQ litter the main (but narrow) street, it's very pleasant to spend an evening there.
Traffic is heavy all day long and parking is somewhat anarchic, so be prepared for traffic jams during rush hour. A few years ago, a large parking lot was built near the air bridge to relieve the traffic congestion in the alleys, but most of the local people still park their cars near their flat there because the parking is on the outskirts of the township. Without the anarchic parking of the vehicles, it would make Sanchaung so much breathable and pleasant. Maybe in the next few years?
Sanchaung also includes parks, temples, shopping malls and public spaces. It is a cosmopolitan neighborhood where the main religions (Buddhist, Catholic, Hindu, Muslim...) live peacefully.
It is very pleasant to discover this from alley to alley, it is a real immersion in the heart of the local life.
ADVICE FOR THIS ITINERARY ⛯ The entrance is possible by many streets and main roads, it is at your convenience ⛯ Drive slowly in the main streets of the neighborhood ⛯ Lose yourself in this crowded district and so rich in discovery ⛯ Beware of traffic and cars coming out of the parallel streets

In January 2008 I traveled with a tour group to Myanmar (Burma). We went went to Yangon, Mandalay, Bagan, Inle Lake and Ngapoli Beach. What a great country and very warm friendly people.
The video I created leans more toward being artistic than a documentary. I hope you like it.

Dangerously Dark Driving @ Nyaunglebin, Myanmar
Driving on the Burmese road is challenging on a dark, rainy night. No streetlight and we had to avoid cars, motorcycles, children, dogs, bicycles, and frogs...
