Amazing Things to Do in Gdańsk, Gdynia & Sopot & Top Gdańsk, Gdynia & Sopot Attractions
Discover with us the most amazing things to do in Gdańsk, Gdynia & Sopot & Top Gdańsk, Gdynia & Sopot attractions. Tricity Poland consists of three cities that are very close to each other but at the same time they are very different in character and history - Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot. The cities are located on the shores of the Baltic Sea and are not more than 40 minutes apart. Let’s start with Gdynia, one of the youngest cities in Poland which was granted city rights only in 1926 and quickly became one of the most important port cities in Poland. Be sure to visit white sandy Gdynia Beach with clean waters. It is a great place for swimming and sunbathing in summer and is accompanied by the restaurants and cafes. The most romantic walking spot in Gdynia with sensational sea view is 180 m long Orlowo Pier. It was opened during WWI and is equipped with benches. A perfect place for the families with children is the Aquarium. Its 68 tanks are home to around 250 species of fish, reptiles, or invertebrates. Another must-visit attractions are two impressive vessels: The ORP Błyskawica, the destroyer constructed in 1937 which also took part in the evacuation from Dunkirk and Dar Pomorza - a fully rigged sailing ship built in 1909 which used to serve as a training ship. Both vessels have been converted into museum ships. Move to romantic Sopot with endless sandy beaches stretching 4,5 kilometer and impressive architecture. Whether you are walking along the 511-meter-long pier, which is the longest wooden pier in Europe, or wandering along the main promenade with many restaurants, cafes and shops called Monciak, you will fall in love with this city. Visit the popular Crooked House which is the example of bold contemporary architecture and one of the symbols of the city completed in 2004. This 30 m tall structure was built in 1975 as a part of the Hospital and became the Lighthouse 2 years later in 1977. Since then, it has lost its official lighthouse status and today it is open to visitors. End your journey in medieval port city Gdańsk with a tradition spanning over 1,000 years. An unmissable icon of the city is extraordinary 15th century wooden crane situated over the Moltawa river. It used to be largest port crane in the whole of Europe during the Middle Ages and today it is a part of the Polish Maritime Museum. Be sure to visit the Royal Way lined all along with quaint historic town houses. You will find here the 14th century Main Town Hall with 83-meter-high clock tower which offers unbelievable views of the city during summer months, or the Neptune`s fountain which is a mannerist-rococo masterpiece built in the early 17th century. It is a symbol of city’s connection with the sea and has become the favorite spot for tourists to pose for a souvenir photo from Gdańsk.

Puck styczeń 2025, Bałtyk - Kaszuby. Panorama miasta. Molo i plaża. Top 10 places to visit in Poland
Puck to jedno z najstarszych miast Pomorza, którego historia sięga ponad tysiąca lat. Zatoka Pucka przyciąga miłośników sportów wodnych i amatorów pięknych widoków, a tradycje rybackie nadal są tu kultywowane, łącząc przeszłość z teraźniejszością.
Zaczynamy naszą podróż od serca Pucka – rynku. Tutaj historia miesza się z codziennym życiem mieszkańców. Kamienice, kawiarenki i odrobina przeszłości w każdym zakamarku. Dalej port rybacki – miejsce, gdzie tradycja rybacka jest wciąż żywa. Powietrze pachnie morską przygodą. Można poczuć prawdziwy klimat nadmorskiego miasteczka.
Z lotu ptaka Puck zachwyca. Malownicze uliczki, charakterystyczna zabudowa, a w tle bezkres zatoki. To miasto ma w sobie coś magicznego. W ostatnich latach, bardzo się zmieniło i rozrosło.
Nowa, nowoczesna marina w Pucku to miejsce dla żeglarzy i turystów. Eleganckie łodzie i jachty tworzą tutaj prawdziwie wakacyjną atmosferę.

GDYNIA, POLAND: On a mission! I try to find the city's funicular without a map or even a clue.
Gdynia, on Poland's Baltic Sea coast, is an important port. It's also home to a funicular railway, or at least I had a memory of such a thing. I arrive in Gdynia without a map, or any clue as to where I was going. Even the maps in parks don't show this unusual railway.

Gdynia is a port city in northern Poland. Gdynia, together with nearby Gdańsk and Sopot are often referred as Tricity (pl: Trójmiasto). Gdynia is one of the youngest and most modern cities in Poland. In the early 1900s Gdynia was a little village, but after WW1 and the establishing of the Free City of Gdańsk, the Polish Government decided to build a deep-sea port. Construction began in 1921.
The city rose fast in the 1920s and 1930s, so the architecture and planning reflect European trends of the day - Modernism. The city continues to grow to this day. Today, Gdynia is a modern city with a population of a quarter-million and is the second major Polish port on the Baltic Sea after Gdańsk.
Gdynia is a relatively modern city and one will not find many historical buildings. The oldest building in Gdynia is 13th century St. Michael Archangel's Church in Oksywie. There is also a 17th century neo-Gothic manor house located in the Folwarczna Street in Orłowo. However, what most tourists look for Gdynia deals with its recent past.
In the harbour there are two museum ships anchored, the ORP 0Błyskawica destroyer and the Dar Pomorza Tall Ship frigate. Gdynia is also famous for its numerous examples of early 20th century architecture, especially monumentalism and early functionalism. Recently reconstructed Świętojańska street and Kościuszki square are also worth mentioning. The surrounding hills and the coastline attract many nature lovers.
Leisure pier and cliff-like coastline in Kępa Redłowska as well as the surrounding Reservation Park are also popular. 1.5 kilometres long promenade leads from the marina in the city centre to the beach in Redłowo. Most of Gdynia can be seen from Kamienna Góra (54 metres asl) or a newly built observation point near Chwaszczyno. You can also take hydrofoil or ship trip to Gdańsk Westerplatte, Hel or just see port.
Gdynia is the only city in Poland and one of the few in Europe to pride itself on such long and accessible seashore. You will easily catch great views of the sea, and also find long promenades, beautiful waterfronts, marinas, yacht clubs and great sand beaches.
Plaża Miejska (city beach) is located in the center, next to Gdynia Marina and Bulwar Nadmorski (Seaside Promenade). Plaża w Orłowie is located in Orłowo District, next to beautiful Orłowo cliffs. Reach by SKM Gdynia Orłowo or trolleybus lines 21 and 26. Osada Rybacka (Fishermen Village) is a quite wild beach located in Oksywie district - besides suntanning, you can see beautiful, old fishermen equipment and a funicular for fish transport.
For Sightseeing in Gdynia:
Kamienna Góra with nice panoramic view, also possible to see Hel peninsula.
Cliff and wooden pier in Orłowo. Reach by SKM Gdynia Orłowo or trolleybus lines 21 and 26.
Trójmiejski park krajobrazowy (Tricity Sightseeing Park) - a forest-park surrounding all Tricity, with many sightseeing spots.

For Nature in Gdynia:

Sopot formerly German: Zoppot, is a seaside resort city in Pomerelia on the southern coast of the Baltic Sea in northern Poland, with a population of approximately 40,000. It is located in Pomeranian Voivodeship, and has the status of the county, being the smallest city in Poland to do so. It lies between the larger cities of Gdańsk to the southeast and Gdynia to the northwest. The three cities together make up the metropolitan area of Tricity.
Sopot is a major health-spa and tourist resort destination. It has the longest wooden pier in Europe, at 515.5 metres, stretching out into the Bay of Gdańsk. The city is also famous for its Sopot International Song Festival, the largest such event in Europe after the Eurovision Song Contest. Among its other attractions is a fountain of bromide spring water, known as the inhalation mushroom.
The name is thought to derive from an Old Slavic word sopot meaning stream[1] or spring.[2] The same root occurs in a number of other Old Slavic toponyms; it is probably onomatopeic, imitating the sound of running water — murmur (Šepot).
The name is first recorded as Sopoth in 1283 and Sopot in 1291. The German Zoppot is directly derived from the original name. In the 19th century and in the interwar years the German name was re-Polonized as Sopoty (a plural form, closer to the German pronunciation).[1] Sopot was made the official Polish name when the town came again under Polish rule in 1945.
The area of today's Sopot contains the site of a 7th-century Slavonic (Pomeranian) stronghold. Initially it was a commercial trade outpost for commerce extending both up the Vistula river and to cities north across the Baltic Sea. With time the significance of the stronghold diminished and by the 10th century it was reduced to a fishing village, eventually abandoned. However, a century later the area was settled again and two villages were founded within the borders of today's' city: Stawowie and Gręzowo. They were first mentioned in 1186 as being granted to the Cistercian abbey in Oliwa. Another of the villages that constitute today's Sopot, Świemirowo, was first mentioned in 1212 in a document by Mestwin I, who granted it to the Premonstratensian (Norbertine) monastery in nearby Żukowo.
The village of Sopot, which later became the namesake for the whole city, was first mentioned in 1283 when it was granted to the Cistercians. At that time it was part of Poland until the 14th-century Teutonic invasion. By 1316, the abbey had bought all villages in the area and became the owners of all the area of the city. After the Second Peace of Thorn (1466) the area was reincorporated into the Kingdom of Poland.
