THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU VISIT REDWOOD NATIONAL PARK
Today we share things to know before you visit Redwood National Park including things to do at Redwood, things to know before you go to Redwood National Park, Redwood National Park fees and Redwood National Park trail options. This Redwood National Park travel guide also includes where to stay at Redwood including Redwood lodge options and Redwood Hotel options.
Known as the home of the tallest trees in the world, Redwood National Park has fascinated me since I was a child. It has an amazing rugged coastline to explore, wild river-ways and has been hoe to people for thousands of years.
When to visit Redwood National Park:
Summer is high season in Redwood National Park, with most visitors heading here in June, July or August. The temperature is warm and, because of the large size of the park, it rarely feels crowded. Although summer is a great time to visit, Fall offers milder temperatures and is a beautiful time to visit the forest but just remember to bring layers and a rain jacket.
Visiting Redwood National Park
- How long? - You can drive through the park in around 25 minutes if you stick to the 101 but if you drive the Avenue of the Giants, it will take around 2.5 hours, including time for a walk around the woods and a picnic stop. We recommend planning at least a full day, if not two. With over 40miles of coastline and 133000 total acres, there is a lot to explore here.
- Location - The park is located in Northern California, around a 6 hour drive north of San Francisco. Most people choose to fly into San Francisco but you can fly into Arcata-Eureka Airport. This is a tiny airport so expect expensive and sometimes unreliable flights.
- Fees - There is no entrance fee for Redwood National Park but there is a $5 day-use fee for the nearby state parks.
- Get climbing - Every March, Tree Climbing Planet founder Tim Kovar, allows a limited number of visitors to climb into the tree canopy, up a grandfather tree; standing between 600 to 1000 years old.
- Drive through - There are three drive-through redwood trees along the Avenure of the Giants highway, however you are charged a small fee to drive through them
- Camping - There are four campgrounds within Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park but thee must be reserved by phone or online at least 48 hours before. However, you can book 6 months in advance to avoid disappointment. The standard camping fee is $35 but there are some basic cabins in the campgrounds which cost $100 per night during the summer.
- Stay near - Alternatively, you can stay near by booking a nearby hotel or lodge, such as the Holiday Inn Express, the Elk Meadow Cabins or the Lost Whale Inn.
- Also whilst you are in the park, there are some things that you can’t miss out on. - There are lots of amazing things to see and do in the national park. Don’t miss the Fern Canyon, the James Irvine Trail and the Gold Bluffs beach. You can also spot wildlife such as the Roosevelt Elk and the black-tailed deer.

⛔️ It’s extremely important to know and practice all the Leave No Trace principles to help protect and preserve these beautiful places in nature and to minimize our impact the best we can! Also to aid in preventing any possible tragedies (ie. wildfires, rock slides + so much more).⛔️
__________
🦖 Hike through Fern Canyon (1.1 mile loop) - a Jurassic Park filming location that will no doubt transport you! And then, head to…
🌊 Gold Bluffs beach for wildlife sightings and a relaxing stroll by the sea!
🌲 Tall trees trail is a must (4.5 miles RT)! Walk amid the tallest trees in the world (among them including the tallest recorded tree named “Hyperion”).
**Note: visitors are prohibited to hike to Hyperion’s exact spot! And, visitors need a permit to access and hike Tall Trees trail! Go to for more info + for obtaining a permit.
🦌 For guaranteed elk sightings - venture to Elk Meadows and Elk Prairie Campground (especially around dawn and dusk).
📍Nearby the elk spots, hike Brown Creek Trail in Prairie Creek Redwoods (2.3 miles).
🥾 Not-to-be-missed trails in the Redwoods are these following favorites of mine (besides Tall Trees & Fern Canyon):
•Boy Scout Tree Trail in Jedidiah Smith Redwoods (5.5 miles RT)
•Stout Grove Trail in Jedidiah Smith Redwoods (~1 mile loop).
•Ladybird Johnson Grove Trail near Orick, CA (1.5 mile loop).
🌅 Also, Redwood Creek overlook is a great, quick spot to catch a stunning sunset.
✨ Suggestion: we stayed in the Crescent City, CA area so that we could split our time between hiking in the redwood forests & exploring the gorgeous Oregon Coast (Brookings, OR and Samuel H. Boardman Scenic Corridor are about 40 mins north of Crescent City and I HIGHLY recommend visiting: Indian Sands Trail, Secret Beach, Natural Bridges and more!)

The Best 3-Day Road Trip Itinerary Through California Redwood National Park
On one of our road trips to Oregon a few years back, we made a quick stop at the Redwood National & State Parks in California. This place was so beautiful that we wanted to come back and spend more time here. Since it is quite large (over 38,982 acres), the trip planning was a bit tricky, especially because we only had 3 days to see everything. After tons of research, we came up with the best road trip itinerary that would allow us to experience most of what these parks have to offer. This weekend-sized itinerary features lush green forests, giant redwoods, breathtaking coastal trails as well as beautiful hidden beaches. Redwood National and State Parks is absolutely worth visiting!

Best HIKING TRAILS Redwood National Park with KIDS!!!
#Redwoodnationalpark #redwoodstrails #redwoodswithkids
Today we are in Northern California at Redwood National and State Park with our kids. And we did our research on the best hiking trails in the Redwoods. And we came up with our top 3 Best Hikes to do in the Redwoods with kids. We took into consideration, the difficulty level, the lenght of the trail and how much fun it it! All three trails that made our list were majorly fun...More than just a walk in the woods, they had some element of fun. Creeks to walk through, hidden beaches, massive trees with hollows that could be forts. So here it is our top three list for the Redwood National Park with kids.
#3 Enderts Beach trail via the Coastal Trail
This trail is great for families with kids old enough to listen, because parts of this trail hug up to some coastal cliffs. But these cliffs is what make this trail so amazing. There is Blue Pacific Ocean as far as the eye can see. The Trail desends very quickly and it is an out and back trail. And the payoff at the end is incredible. Its Enderts Beach and my kids feel like they are the first people on earth to ever discover it, because of the work we had to do to get here. The rocky shoreline of Enderts Beach is a great place to discover and play in ocean Tide pools. My kids found so many crabs, barnicles and sea anenemies. A little tip for hiking this trail is conserve some energy for the trip back, because it is an all uphill hike.
#2 2 on the list goes to Fern Canyon! FYI reservations to access this trail is a MUST. This is a very popular trail and they try to keep it from getting over crowded. Plus when you arrive there is a $12 vehicle fee. But all this planning in advace will be well worth it. Fern Canyon is like nothing we have ever seen!!! it almost looks prehistorc. I'm guessing that is why Jurrasic Park 2 Lost World used this location for their movie. The Fern Canyon Trail is a lollypop loop trail that follows the bottom of a canyon. There are small wooden planks to walk on to help hikers from getting wet, but if you are hiking with kids, just plan on getting wet. The canyon walls all 30 feet high on both sides and are covered with moss and different species of ferns but the caves are just covered in green and wetness. The kids loved exploring and looking for Giant Pacific Salamanders, frogs and fish. When we finished the look we went back to the trailhead, and from there, there is access to Gold Bluffs Beach. Here the kids played in the waves of the Pacific ocean and watched as seals did the same.
Before we get to our number one spot we have an honorable mention that is not a hike at all but it is a touristy thing that must be done. It is a great way for the kids to see how MASSIVE these Redwood trees really are.
Our #1 spot had to go to Cathedral Trail. Prairie Creek Visitor Center
Located just off the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway - in the heart of Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. This is where you can talk to a ranger about how to hike Cathedral Trail. What trail you should take to get to Cathedral and where to take the short detour to Big Tree. The 15th largest Redwood in the park.
The visitors center. Exhibits about the Civilian Conservation Corps and redwood ecology, park information, junior ranger program, bookstore and retail sales.
Cathedral trail is what I dreamed the Redwoods would be. The
groves of Redwood Trees are massive. This is where E.T. the movie was filmed and being here you believe in the magic of flying bicycles. This was a giant nature playground for my kids as they played on giant tree stumps and hollowed out trees.
All three of these hikes are unforgetable and perfect for family's
Poverty in Arkansas.
10 Arkansas small towns with the worst poverty.
10 Poorest towns in Arkansas.
Today we are going to take a look at Arkansas and the mess that it is.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the national poverty rate was 11.8% percent or 38.1 million Americans in 2018. These states have the highest percentages of poverty in the country: Mississippi, New Mexico, Louisiana, West Virginia, Arkansas, Kentucky, Alabama, District of Colombia, Oklahoma, South Carolina and the territory of Puerto Rico.
So why are we starting with Arkansas? Last month I got an email from a guy named Glen in Little Rock who said
I best not put Arkansas in my mouth again. He said he’d find me and pull me out of my electric car and crush my head.
I replied: Dude how did you watch my video, you are using AOL dial-up service.
He replied. What’s wrong with that.
I replied “Nothing if it were 1997.
He never replied again. So, in Glen's honor, I am putting Arkansas back in my mouth and we are going to look at the poorest towns in Arkansas.
