Discover the Eco-Friendly Awesomeness of Dickson Street, Fayetteville, Arkansas

The 5th best place to live in the country might surprise you. In fact, you might not have heard of Fayetteville, AR, but you’ll be glad you have now. Despite being the 3rd largest city in Arkansas, its 83,000 residents mean it doesn't feel huge and can maintain a quirky vibe.

Dickson Street is the main vein of the city, where you’ll find unique spots—like Dickson Street Bookshop, with a rare book collection dating back 300 years. Craft brew, artisan coffee, and live music are all part of the city’s pulse. And they’ve just become one of only a few dozen cities in the nation (and the first in the state) to pass a 100% renewable energy pledge. Fayetteville is set to have 100% community-wide clean energy by 2050. Hoorah!

The Most Magical Hike in Redwoods National Park

Fern Canyon is one of the most magical and rewarding hikes you can go on in Redwoods National Park!

It’s short and sweet but packs so much beauty and wonder into one trail.

🌿 The canyon walls soar almost 100 feet in the air, carved by a meandering river over millions of years.

As its namesake suggests, the canyon walls are lined with beautiful, lush green ferns.

Plenty of wildlife, such as frogs, Scrub Jays, and salamanders, also calls this canyon home. Keep your eyes peeled!

🥾 Hiking Details:

- Distance: About 1 mile
- Elevation: 127
- Type: Loop or out and back if you want to spend more time in the canyon
- No dogs are allowed on this hike!

For our trip to Fern Canyon, we stayed at The Front Porch Inn in Arcata. A boutique inn with private hot tubs, a sauna, and unique rooms, all built from reclaimed material.

I can easily recommend staying with The Front Porch Inn for your trip to Fern Canyon!

Check out their beautiful and unique rooms here:

Fayetteville, AR

Join along on a visit to Fayetteville, Arkansas!

“Fayetteville (/ˈfeɪətˌvɪl/) is the second-largest city in Arkansas and county seat of Washington County. The city is on the outskirts of the Boston Mountains, deep within the Ozarks. Known as Washington until 1829, the city was named after Fayetteville, Tennessee, from which many of the settlers had come. It was incorporated on November 3, 1836, and was rechartered in 1867. The four-county Northwest Arkansas Metropolitan Statistical Area is ranked 105th in terms of population in the United States with 463,204 in 2010 according to the United States Census Bureau. The city had a population of 93,949 at the 2020 Census.

Fayetteville is home to the University of Arkansas, the state's flagship university. When classes are in session, thousands of students on campus dramatically change the city's demographics. Thousands of Arkansas Razorbacks alumni and fans travel to Fayetteville to attend football, basketball, and baseball games. The city of Fayetteville is colloquially known as the Track Capital of the World due to the success and prestige of the University of Arkansas cross country and track & field programs. The University's men's cross country and track and field programs have won a combined 41 national championships to date with the women's teams adding 5 national championships since 2015. Fayetteville was named the third best place to live in the United States in the 2016 U.S. News Best Places To Live Rankings, and one of the best places to retire in the South. Forbes also ranked Fayetteville as the 24th-best city for business and careers in 2016. Lonely Planet named Fayetteville among its top 20 places to visit in the South in 2016. The city hosts the Walmart Shareholders Meetings each year at the Bud Walton Arena.”
