Palm Springs Travel Guide | California Travel Tips

California travel expert Veronica Hill shares her Palm Springs Travel Guide in this episode of California Travel Tips.

Located 114 miles east of Los Angeles off the I-10 and 111 freeways, this balmy desert oasis makes a charming weekend escape.

A few of my favorite Palm Springs attractions are the famous Palm Springs Tram, that whisks you 8,500 feet above Mount San Jacinto, the Desert Adventures Jeep Tour, which takes you into the California desert and along the San Andreas Fault, and the educational Living Desert zoo and botanical gardens, where you can get a close-up look at native desert plants and desert animals.

If you're looking to stay the weekend, Palm Springs hotels such as Desert Riviera Hotel and Horizon Hotel cater to the swanky crowd looking for a bit of retro chic. Both are located in the Heritage District, which is home to many of Palm Springs Mid Century Modern buildings.

Palm Springs resorts like Rancho Las Palmas and the Desert Springs JW Marriott Resort & Spa are known for their great pools, golf courses and spas.

For a price, you can even stay the night at Frank Sinatra's former Twin Palms estate, or the honeymoon hideaway of Elvis Presley. Daily house tours of the Elvis home ($25 weekdays and $35 weekends) are offered by appointment.

By night you'll find some fun Palm Springs entertainment at the Palm Springs Follies, where an over-55 cast of vaudeville entertainers pay homage to Route 66 in a musical revue.

Before you leave, don't forget to stop at the Shield's Date Farm in Indio, where you can stock up on Medjool dates, moist date nut bread or sample one of their famous creamy date shakes. You'll think you've died and gone to heaven.

Palm Springs weather varies from the 70s in winter and spring to over 110 F during the summer months, so be sure you've packed accordingly. Even during peak season, you should bring a jacket. Evening temperatures often dip into the 40s.

A Beautiful Evening Drive Around The Santa Cruz Mountains (10-8-2022)

Enjoying a nice evening drive thru the Santa Cruz Mountains. We were on the way back home. Me & my cousin had another adventure this day! For this day's outing, we went to Portola Redwoods State Park... Our day in summary: We hiked a bit, enjoying the majestic old redwoods there along with the scenic forests. Later, we stopped around the Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve to take in the beautiful mountainous scenery from up high as well as the epic sunset. We were so high that we were above the clouds! We later ended our day by eating dinner at Pho Wagon along Meridian Ave back in San Jose. 'Til next time! (Outing taken place Saturday, ‎October ‎8, ‎2022)

*A bit about Portola Redwoods State Park: Portola Redwoods SP is in a remote mountain forest that can be difficult to reach. The windy Portola State Park Road is the only road in and out of the park. The drive to Portola SP can be nerve-wracking as you’ll need to drive along twisty narrow mountain roads with steep drop-offs (Alpine Rd & then take Portola State Park Rd). The park is a 2,800-acre park in California situated in San Mateo County. The road leading to the park drops from a ridgetop into a deeply shaded redwood forest, offering a hushed getaway from the suburban bustle of nearby Silicon Valley and the South Bay. The visitor center feels like a wilderness lodge. 18 miles of trails follow meandering creeks, where moisture-loving coast redwoods stand tall among ferns & huckleberries. Waterfalls on Fall and Pescadero creeks tumble down mossy banks over rocks & woody debris. The park has a 55-site family campground, 4 group campsites & a trail camp for backpackers. It also protects some of the most remote & scenic redwoods in the region, the Peter’s Creek Grove. Certainly, this park is a hidden gem!

Portola, California

A peaceful walk, and drive, through a quiet mountain town. Enjoy the tour.

Winter Snow In Portola California | Best Snow of North Lake Tahoe 2020 - 2021 | Happy New Year

Subscribe: AnGkhmerUS:
Where is the best place to enjoy snow for New Year 2021? To celebrate New Year this 2021, we drove about 4 hours from San Fransisco to Portola one of the best snow pace in North of Lake Tahoe. Portola is located in North of Lake Tahoe, California. In this video you will see the amazing views of snow covered the ground, trees and the mountains. We drove the Smith Peak, but the snow was so deep we didn't be able to make it all the way to the top. However, we got to drive through snow and get a good drove shot of snow and trees. Also we drove up to another peak called, Beckwuorth Peak to get the views of sunset. Again we didn't make it to the top, we made to half way, which is good enough for the good views.

You also can see the highlights for my next video at the end, don't forget to watch all the way end.

A walk among the giants! #redwoods #trails #trees #california #travel #shorts

Portola redwoods state park is home to so many giant redwood trees. There are trees which are around 1200 years old. It just makes you humble walking through those trails with redwoods on the side.

History of Mission Viejo

Did you know this fact about #missionviejo❔

Back in 1960, early developers for the city dismissed most of the land because it was “undevelopable”

Donald Bren was the urban planner, that is NOW the president of the Irvine Company, that drafted a master plan which placed roads in valleys and houses on the hills. He contoured to the geography of the area.

THE PLAN WORKED! Which is why “During the late 1970s and 1980s, houses in Mission Viejo were in such high demand that housing tracts often sold out before construction even began on them.”

History is so fun to know!! 🤗 This #history is the reason Mission Viejo is the beautiful city we know and love today.

About Broadway Tunnel (2022.06 from Wikipedia -

The Broadway Tunnel (officially the Robert C. Levy Tunnel) is a roadway tunnel in San Francisco, California. The tunnel opened in 1952, and serves as a high-capacity conduit for traffic between Chinatown and North Beach to the east and Russian Hill and Van Ness Avenue to the west. In a proposal of the city's 1948 Transportation Plan, the tunnel was to serve as a link between the Embarcadero Freeway and the Central Freeway.

===
About Market Street (2022.06 from Wikipedia -

Market Street is a major thoroughfare in San Francisco, California. It begins at The Embarcadero in front of the Ferry Building at the northeastern edge of the city and runs southwest through downtown, passing the Civic Center and the Castro District, to the intersection with Portola Drive in the Twin Peaks neighborhood. Beyond this point, the roadway continues into the southwestern quadrant of San Francisco. Portola Drive extends south to the intersection of St. Francis Boulevard and Sloat Boulevard, where it continues as Junipero Serra Boulevard.

Market Street is the boundary of two street grids. Streets on its southeast side are parallel or perpendicular to Market Street, while those on the northwest are nine degrees off from the cardinal directions.

Market Street is a major transit artery for the city of San Francisco, and has carried in turn horse-drawn streetcars, cable cars, electric streetcars, electric trolleybuses, and diesel buses. Today Muni's buses, trolleybuses, and heritage streetcars (on the F Market line) share the street, while below the street the two-level Market Street subway carries Muni Metro and Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART). While cable cars no longer operate on Market Street, the surviving cable car lines terminate directly adjacent to the street at its intersections with California Street and Powell Street.

===
About Civic Center (2022.06 from Wikipedia -

The Civic Center in San Francisco, California, is an area located a few blocks north of the intersection of Market Street and Van Ness Avenue that contains many of the city's largest government and cultural institutions. It has two large plazas (Civic Center Plaza and United Nations Plaza) and a number of buildings in classical architectural style. The Bill Graham Civic Auditorium (formerly the Exposition Auditorium),[5] the United Nations Charter was signed in the Veterans Building's Herbst Theatre in 1945, leading to the creation of the United Nations. It is also where the 1951 Treaty of San Francisco (the peace treaty that officially ended the Pacific War with the Empire of Japan, which had surrendered in 1945) was signed. The San Francisco Civic Center was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987[6] and listed in the National Register of Historic Places on October 10, 1978.[4]
