Moustiers (source Wikipedia):
Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, or simply Moustiers, is a commune in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of Southeastern France. In 2017, it had a population of 709. It considered one of the most beautiful villages of France. It lies at the western entrance to the Verdon Gorge (Gorges du Verdon). The village has been a centre of the pottery trade, especially faïence, for centuries. A spring flows out of the cliff and creates a waterfall in town, providing water power. The village was built on platform terraces a hundred or so metres up the side of a limestone cliff. At twilight, when the sun on a clear day strikes the south-facing cliff, a diffuse pink light glows across the village.
Above the town, a gold-painted star hangs on a 225m-long chain suspended between two cliffs. Its origin, according to a legend popularised by Provençal poet Frédéric Mistral, lies in the 10th century; the original star and chain have been replaced several times since then. The current star is about 50 years old. Ten years ago it fell after the chain snapped, and was rehung using a helicopter.
According to the legend, during the Crusades the knight Bozon de Blacas was held prisoner by the Saracens; he vowed to hang a star over his village if he was able to return. No one knows how the star was originally hung there.
Gorges du Verdon (source Wikipedia):
The Verdon Gorge (French: Gorges du Verdon) is a river canyon located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of Southeastern France. It is about 25 km (15.5 mi) long and up to 700 metres (0.4 mi) deep. It was formed by the Verdon River, which is named for its turquoise-green colour, one of the location's distinguishing characteristics. In between the towns of Castellane and Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, the river has cut a ravine to a depth of 700 meters through the limestone mass. At the end of the canyon, the Verdon flows into the artificial Lake of Sainte-Croix.
The gorge is very popular with tourists, who can drive around its rim, rent kayaks to travel on the river, or hike. The limestone walls, which are several hundreds of metres high, attract many rock climbers. It is considered an outstanding destination for multi-pitch climbing, with 1,500 routes available ranging from 20 metres (65 feet) to over 400 metres (1,300 feet).

5 Most Charming Small Towns in France
Many travelers to France don’t stray far from the big cities like Paris and Lyon. They don’t know what they’re missing: Picture-postcard medieval villages with narrow cobblestone streets and city walls. They’re also missing out on charming towns where wine-making reigns supreme and a more traditional France can still be found. Even better, many small towns in France are often situated amid gorgeous scenery of both mountains and sea.

Best places on the French Riviera- #2 Lake of Sainte-Croix/Gorges du Verdon #shorts #amazingplaces
This is where Verdon river flows into Lake of Sainte- Croix, and where the Gorges du Verdon ends.
📍The close view in the video was made from Pont du Galetas bridge and it’s about 2 hours drive from Nice. You can stop here for a boat ride while visiting Gorges du Verdon or just to admire this beautiful turquoise water from the bridge.

La Forge de Sainte Marie
A secluded site suited to couples or families looking for a quieter stay. Although there's lots to keep children occupied, including organised games, a pool and games room, the tranquil atmosphere is retained. Adults can enjoy wine and cheese tastings, guided walks, historical tours and even join a medieval banquet. Nearby Joinville has a Renaissance château with extensive, French-style gardens while Grand, 20km away, has a well-preserved Gallo-Roman amphitheatre. Touring pitches are of a good size and private thanks to the surrounding trees and hedges.
