10 Most UNDERRATED and OVERRATED Places To Visit In Italy!
If you're thinking of visiting Italy and want to make sure that you see the best it has to offer and avoid the hype, look no further. Here are Italy's Most Underrated and Overrated Destinations. First up are the most underrated.
1. Castelli Romani. Castelli Romani is a series of 14 small towns southeast of Rome in the Alban Hills. Each little town has its own distinct beauty and strong points, be it the Volcanic Lake of Nemi, or the Lake Di Albano, the bread from Genzano, the roast pig from Ariccia, or the beautiful park in Frascati, its easy to see why the Pope's have their summer home here and also why it's one of Rome's best-kept secrets.
2. Urbino. Urbino is a walled city in the Marche region of Italy, Urbino is similar to Tuscany but cheaper and with about a quarter of the tourists. Rich in history and art, walking through its streets will take you back 600 years to the Renaissance then you can sit at one of its many restaurants to try its trademark pasta and wine, Strozzapreti, and Verdicchio white wine.
3. Procida. Procida is a little island off the coast of Naples. If you are looking for the old romantic Italy, white sand beaches, colorful fishing boats in a quaint harbor, and a rainbow of houses lining the streets, then Procida is the place to go, Procida is like Capri but without the Jet-set, no designer shops or fancy spas, just traditional Italian beauty without the glitter on top.
4. Arcipelago Di La Maddalena. The Maddalena archipelago is a group of seven islands in the Strait of Bonifacio, only three of them are inhabited, Caprera, Santo Stefano, and Maddalena, Maddalena is also a national park, its beautiful coastline, hospitable people, and ancient fortifications are just some of the reasons its a popular holiday destination for the Italians, especially among boaters.
5. Turin. Turin is a different side of Italy, unlike the romantic towns that represent the simple slower lifestyle of fishermen and farmers, Turin is the industrial side of Italy, where the rich built their palaces, the religious built their cathedrals, and the studious built their museums. Turin has so much to offer that you'll need at least 2 to 3 days there just to begin to appreciate it.
Now The Most Overrated!
1. Milan. Milan may be famous for fashion but the city itself is rather depressing, most of its architecture was destroyed during WWII, and of what is left, only The Milan Cathedral is really worth a visit but even that feels a little too modern. In Milan, it seems that the weather, the architecture, and the cuisine strive to be noticed by differing from the Italian norm but end up being a little too dull to really stand out.
2. Capri. Capri is beautiful but its popularity with the rich and famous has damaged it greatly, It gives the feeling of an exclusive club with a dress code to get in. If you aren't rich, you probably won't feel comfortable and if you are rich, seeing so many cookie-cutter versions of yourself will probably make you feel uncomfortable too! especially when you can visit Procida and get the Caprician experience without having to deal with Capricious people.
3. Trieste. Trieste is one e short of triste which means sad in Italian and this is, in fact, a rather good description of the city. Trieste has a high living standard, it's popular with students and researchers, it's plagued by the Bora, a cold wind coming from the north that can reach speeds of up to 80mph (129kph) and can last for days, its architecture is large and yet oddly unimpressive, and it is also one of the safest cities in the world. If you are thinking of living here then it is probably the ideal location, but for a vacation, Trieste is a little too, Triste.
4. Costa Smeralda. The Emerald Coast is another one of those locations that became popular with the extremely rich and famous and has now become the go-to place for the not-so rich and famous and the We'd like people to think we're rich and famous. Prices are high all year round but in August they become abusive. This gives you the feeling of a place that isn't really Italian but has been made to look Italian, like little Italy in New York or Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, what the Emerald Coast has gained in notoriety it has lost in authenticity, and what once was a Gem is now nothing more than cut glass!
5. Cortona. Cortona became famous because of the book Under The Tuscan Sun. It is now visited by thousands of people trying to relive the story and search out the locations mentioned within the book's pages, this may all seem very romantic, but the truth is that quaint towns like Cortona are dotted all over Italy and when compared to them, Cortona doesn't really have anything special to offer, unless of course, you enjoy walking down old stones streets with hundreds of other tourists.

Our visit Naples travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide to Neapolitan cuisine, top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day including visiting cathedrals, pizzerias, the old town, quirky neighborhoods and museums. We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won't find in a typical Naples tourism brochure, Naples itinerary or Naples, Italy city tour also known as Napoli Italia.
10 Things to do in Naples, Italy Travel Guide Video Transcript: (NAPOLI)
Tell anyone you’re travelling to Naples and you’ll likely get a few raised eyebrows with some side comments about the mafia, or grid-lock traffic, or garbage on the streets. Somewhere along the way, Naples seems to have earned a bad reputation, but we thought it all sounded a bit too harsh. We wanted to experience the city for ourselves, plus we’d also heard there was good pizza!
We ended up having a grand ol’ time, so join on us as we show you what you can get up to with a couple of days in Naples, plus somewhere along the way, we’ll also reveal where we ate our favourite pizza.
Piazza del Plebiscito seemed like a good place to start our tour. This is a large public square in Central Naples, that earned its name from the 1860 vote that brought Naples into the unified Kingdom of Italy.
The plaza is surrounded by numerous attractions, including the Royal Palace of Naples on one side, and the Basilica of San Francesco di Paola.
We then visited the Royal Palace of Naples. This was one of the four residences in Naples used by the Bourbon Kings during their rule of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.
The admission fee was 4 Euros and this gave us access to the Royal Apartments where we got to admire porcelains, tapestries, sculptures and painted ceilings found within the palace walls.
We visited was Castel Nuovo, an imposing medieval castle that dates back to 1282. This castle was built when Charles I of Naples took the throne and moved his capital from Palermo to Naples. Admission to the castle was 6 Euros per person.
We stopped by Caffe Gambrinus, a historic coffeehouse in the heart Naples for a bite and drink.
We visited Galleria Umberto I, which is a gallery which vaulted iron and glass ceilings, where you can shop & people watch.
This gallery dates back to the late 1880s and meant to be reminiscent of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan.
While in Naples, we took it upon ourselves to find the best pizza in the city. This involved eating a total of 10 pizzas over two days. In the end we decided Da Michele was our personal favourite.
Because we always enjoy visiting outdoor markets wherever we go, we stopped by the Fish Market.
Moving on to museums we visited Naples National Archaeological Museum. This museum holds the Farnese Marbles, which is an impressive collection of Roman copies of classical Greek sculptures and ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
Another place we visited in Naples was the Quartieri Spagnoli, or Spanish Quarter. The streets in this quarter were laid down during the 16th century for the Spanish military barracks outside the city walls. The streets here are narrow and the buildings tall.
And that’s a wrap for our quick 2-day tour of Naples. We hope this video gave you a few ideas of things you can do in the city and all the pizza you can eat in between.
This is part of our Travel in Italy video series showcasing Italian food, Italian culture and Italian cuisine.

Il Quartiere San Ferdinando di Napoli, 10 cose da vedere. Arcangelo Pisano, guida turistica Napoli

Capri Travel Guide - Best Places to Visit in Capri Italy
Hello & Welcome. Enjoy this video from Capri, Italy. Please do not forget to Subscribe, Like and Share our videos.
Capri, an island in Italy’s Bay of Naples, is famed for its rugged landscape, upscale hotels and shopping, from designer fashions to limoncello and handmade leather sandals. One of its best-known natural sites is the Blue Grotto, a dark cavern where the sea glows electric blue, the result of sunlight passing through an underwater cave. In summer, Capri's dramatic, cove-studded coastline draws many yachts. _______________________________________________________

Capri Tour - What to see on a 1 day trip
Capri - What we saw on our day trip from Sorrento! Stunning views & more.
My video of what to see in Sorrento is here:
My video of what to see in Positano is here (3m10s):
You can also see my Pompeii tour video here (9m06s):
And you can see my Herculaneum tour video here (7m56s):
Here's the Capri video narrative: Capri is a small Italian island in the Bay of Naples, about 5 kilometers from the mainland. We visited on a day trip in April, arriving via a fast jet ferry from Sorrento and avoiding the peak summer season, when the island can be overrun with tourists. Capri is also easy to reach by ferry from Naples. We arrived at Capri’s main port, Marina Grande, which is on the north coast. From here you can take boat trips, for example to the Blue Grotto, which is a flooded sea-cave, or you can take a boat to the south coast to see the Faraglioni Rocks. However, with limited time we decided to make for Capri town, then on to to Anacapri and Monte Solaro. To get from Marina Grande up to Capri town we took the funicular railway which connects the harbour to the Piazzetta, the town’s main square. Capri’s two main centres, Capri town and its uphill rival Anacapri, are almost entirely given over to tourism and prices can be high. Capri is a world-famous beauty spot and it’s also a summer favourite of holidaying VIPs.
The Piazzetta is full of fashionable bars and it’s well worth stopping for an espresso. You might even see one of those VIPs! The square is dominated by a free-standing clock tower. Note the tiled clock face. Capri is well known for its maiolica tiles. Here they can be seen forming a map of the island.
We boarded a crowded bus to Anacapri and explored the island’s second town. Walking along Via Giuseppe Orlandi, we saw the Casa Rossa, a brightly coloured house built in the late 1800s by an American colonel. It’s now a museum. Continuing along this road, we reached Piazza San Nicola and the Church of San Michele, built in Italian baroque style at the turn of the 18th century. Built on an octagonal Greek cross plan, the church is famous for its maiolica floor decoration depicting the expulsion of Adam and Eve. It was completed in 1761. For an impressive view of the entire floor, you can climb the spiral staircase to the organ loft and look out over the church from above. More maiolica tiles can be seen nearby, decorating the benches in Piazza Armando Diaz.
The Monte Solaro chairlift is also in Anacapri, and it reaches the top of the 589 meters high mountain within minutes. From the summit there are picturesque views over the island and across the Bay of Naples and the Gulf of Salerno. There’s also a great view of the Faraglioni Rocks from here. These three spurs of rock rise from the sea within meters of the coast and are one of the favourite destinations for boat tours of the island’s coast. We hiked down from the summit back to Anacapri. The path is quite uneven in places but the walk is well worth it for the changing panoramas. On the way down, you can see a series of small bronze plaques. Each represents a stop on the Via Crucis, or Way of the Cross. We headed back to Marina Grande and caught the last ferry back to Sorrento, which left late afternoon. You can see plenty of this beautiful island in a few hours, but don’t expect to fit everything in. Next time, maybe we’ll get to the Blue Grotto!
