3. Triesenberg is a municipality and a mountain village above the Rhine valley. It dates back to the 13th century and now is now a popular holiday resort.

As the town is located on the slopes of the Alp mountains, it offers spectacular views of the area and the Rhine valley.

Explore the little town’s centre with its little shops, cafes and restaurants.

Visit Saint Joseph Parish Church in Triesenberg centre.

Do not miss the Llama and Alpaca farm near Triesenberg. There you can learn more about llamas and alpacas, and interact with them. Tours of the farm take place in small groups, and it’s a perfect place to visit with your children. You have to book your visit in advance, though.

2. Gutenberg Castle (Burg Gutenberg) is a historic castle in the town of Balzers, Liechtenstein’s southernmost town.

The castle is really old — its construction started in the early 12th century. The castle changed hands several times until the 15th century when it underwent extensive new construction works. In 1905 and 1912 Gutenberg Castle received a substantial restoration.

Unfortunately, the castle itself is not open to visitors, only its courtyard. The chapel and rose garden are accessible free of charge every Sunday during the tourist season in summer.

1. Liechtenstein’s modest capital Vaduz has a lot to offer despite its small size. It’s a great place to start your trip, as well as it is one of the best places to visit in Liechtenstein.

Vaduz is home to a few cool museums:

Liechtenstein Museum of Fine Arts (Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein) — a museum of modern and contemporary art. Its collection covers the period from the 19th century to the present.
Liechtenstein National Museum (Liechtensteinisches Landesmuseum) — a museum which introduces visitors to the history, culture and nature of Liechtenstein.
The Postal Museum (Postmuseum) — a postal museum which showcases postage stamps issued by Liechtenstein since 1912.
Treasure Chamber (Schatzkammer Liechtenstein) — a museum which houses valuables, works of art and weapons belonging to the rulers of Liechtenstein and other private collectors. One of the most notable collections in the museum is a collection of precious Russian Easter eggs, including Fabergé eggs.
Vaduz is also home to a few marvellous historical landmarks.

Visit Vaduz Castle which is by far the most popular tourist attraction in the city and one of the best places to visit in Liechtenstein.

Do not miss St. Florin Cathedral — a neo-Gothic church built-in 1874.

Do you want to see how Liechtenstein once looked? Head to Mitteldorf, a neighbourhood in Vaduz. The streets of the neighbourhood feature traditional houses and beautiful gardens from the late-medieval period.

Do not miss Alte Rheinbrücke — the Old Rhine Bridge. It is a wooden bridge over the Rhine which connects Vaduz with the municipality of Sevelen. The bridge is 135 meters long and is the last remaining wooden bridge that crosses the Alpine Rhine.

Gutenberg Castle in Balzers, Liechtenstein

Gutenberg Castle in Balzers, Liechtenstein is one of 5 castles in the principality. It is one of two that are still preserved. During our 3 day visit to Liechtenstein, we had the opportunity to visit the castle. We hiked from the playground at the base of the hill up through the vineyard. On the way back down, we looped through the small patch of woods to see the nearby church.
And yes, out 4-year-old wanted to play fetch lol

Das Walsermuseum in Triesenberg, Liechtenstein

The Walser Museum Triesenberg is a museum of local history of the Walser culture in Triesenberg , Liechtenstein . It is the first and largest local museum in the country.
The area of the community Triesenberg was permanently settled by immigrant Walsers from the end of the 13th century. Until the time of the Second World War , the principality was rural. Through motorization and industrialization in the Rhine Valley , life in the mountain village changed fundamentally.

Engelbert Bucher is considered the initiator of the museum, he began as a Triesenberg pastor to collect cultural assets and utensils. In the year 1959 the municipality acquired the house No. 19 built in 1601 , today called Walserhaus . The first museum was opened there two years later. After the construction of a village center was planned in 1976, the museum was able to move into a new building, which extends over several floors. This museum was opened on December 13, 1981. The current director is Leander Schädler .
