It all began with a love story, as most wonderful things do. Dave and Debbie Turner were working at the same lodge in the bush, he as a passionate Ranger-Guide and she as a dynamic young hospitality manager. They fell for each other in one of those magical bushveld moments when the whole world feels enchanted and anything is possible. To this day, she denies that she winked at him as he claims but whatever actually happened to kick-start it, their love affair sparked a business which has been almost a decade in the making.
Bushveld Terrace Hotel on Kruger, in the heart of Phalaborwa was born from Dave and Debbie’s passion for the bush and a desire to share their experience of good, old-fashioned safari hospitality with their guests.
But it is not the beautiful decor in rich and earthy tones with big stable doors opening up onto the spreading terrace or the fine-art wildlife photography on the walls. It’s not even about the warm-hearted hospitality from dynamic, welcoming staff; the quality of the coffee or the delectable desserts which are crafted to be a mini work of art. Camping in the northern part of Kruger National Park English 4k+
Accompanies us on our 6 day camping tour through the north of the Kruger National Park. The Kruger is one of the largest and most famous national parks in Africa and a world- famous destination for safari. It ´s 19.485 square kilometerns in size, about the size of Slovenia in Europe. The park measures 350 km length and is maximum 60 km wide. The best time for wildlife watching is the dry season (May - October).

Camps and Lodges we visited:
1. Phalaborwa Safari Park Camp, A Forever Resort, is located directly at the Phalaborwa gate of the Kruger and offers ideal accomondation for travelers who want to explore the park.There are comfortable chalets and 47 camp grounds. The sanitary facilities are good and very clean.
There is electricity and water at every pitch. This camp is very large, but the camp grounds are comparativly small and quite cramped. We booked this camp because its proximity to the national park. It was well suited for us as an overnight stop before entering the park. We cannot say anything about the staff, as we arrived late in the evening and left early in the morning.
2. The Tsendze Rustic Camp is an idyllic and remote camp in the Kruger. It´s particulary popular with nature lovers and camping enthusiasts. It offers an authentic bush experience in the middle of the wilderness away from the hustle and bustle of the larger rest camps. There are 30 fairly large and seperate pitches that ensure privacy. Check- in takes place in advance at the Mopani Lodge, 8 km away. In this lodge there is a good restaurant with a spectacular view and a shop that also carries groceries. There is no electricity in the camp, it is a self-catering camp. Water and a barbecue area are available at each pitch.The sanitary facilities are simple but very clean. The staff is extremely friendly Tip: If you want one of the coveted pitches at the fence, around the camp, please reserve it in advance, even outside the main season. The best pitches are to the left and right of the entrance to the camp
3. Shigwedzi Restcamp is one of the large camps in the northern part of the Kruger National Park. It is a popular destination for visitors, usually quite heavily booked. If you are looking for peace and seclusion, you should book another camp. At each pitch there is electricity, a barbecue area and running water. There is a restaurant, a shop and a gas station! The sanitary facilities are good and very clean! Well suited for an overnight stay, for longer stays you may should reserve a place at the fence in advance. These are quieter and offer a beautiful view of the bush.
4. Punda Maria Camp is the northernmost restcamp in the Kruger National Park and is known for its tranquil atmosphere, lush vegetation and abundant birdlife. This camp is much quieter than Shingwedzi Camp. There is also a good restaurant, a small shop, a pool and a gas station. Each pitch has electricity, a barbecue area and running water. In addition to the campsites, safari tents, cottages and bungalows are offered. Tip: Reserve a campground at the fence, near the observation hide, in good time, then you can look directly at the waterhole. And even at night you hear the sound of the bush as if you were in the middle of it.
5. The Awelani Lodge, Masisi is located about 12 km from the Pafuri Gate of the Kruger. It is a comfortable lodge, ideal for a break on the edge of the bush. Cottages and somewhat remote safari tents are offered. The restaurant is highly recommended. The service and friendliness of the staff are exemplary! There are prehistoric caves on the grounds of the lodge that can be visited and explored. If you wish, you can also dine there.
Tip: To enter Zimbabwe with a rental car, we strongly recommend that you take an agent. You save nerves, time and running the gauntlet between the individual stations. These agents want up to $300 for their service. 30 - 40$ are reasonable and can be achieved with a little persistence in the negotiation. Please have new, even small dollar bills ready for the official offices, old ones are unwillingly accepted or not accepted at all, and there is also no exchange! At most borders it is possible to pay by credit card in the meantime, we would recommend this.
