When Tammisaari became the administrative center of Raasepori county in 1528, Raasepori lost its importance. King Kustaa Vaasa granted Tammisaari city rights in 1546. The location of the city had long been known as a harbor and fishing spot, and the idea of founding a city had been brewing for a long time. An old water route also ran through the area deep into Etelä Häme. At first, however, the authorities' decisions were slow and did not favor the city's growth. One year after the founding of the city, an attempt was made to get the inhabitants to move to war-torn Vyborg, and after the founding of Helsinki, the inhabitants of Tammisaari, Porvoo and Rauma were ordered to move to Helsinki.

The center of Tammisaari in an aerial view Tammisaari church was built in the 17th century. Its construction was started in 1651 by Count Gustaf Adolf Leijonhufvud. The church got its current look after the fire that destroyed the city in 1821. Cygnaeus also inaugurated Finland's first women's seminary in Tammisaari in 1872. In 1850, the town had about 1,500 inhabitants. In 1873, the city got a railway, when the Hanko–Hyvinkää railway was completed. This caused the rise of industry and the expansion of the city in the direction of the railway. On the fort of the island of Hästö-Busö, which was part of the municipality, the battery of the now defunct Hanko Coastal Battery operated and conscript training was also provided on the island. ☀️ Hanko sijaitsee lounaisella Uudellamaalla, 127 kilometriä Helsingistä länteen ja 145 kilometriä Turusta kaakkoon. Lähin naapurikaupunki on Raasepori 35 kilometriä koilliseen. Kaupungin merialueella on myös paljon karuja kallioluotoja. Hangon alueella on muutamia pieniä järviä ja lampia, kuten Sandöträsket, Skogbyträsket ja Österfjärden. Russarön saarella on myös useita lampia, kuten Lemmenlampi. The castle's first phase was completed sometime between 1373 and 1378. Its main purpose was to protect Sweden's interests in southern Finland against the Hanseatic city of Tallinn. The castle was originally built on a small island in the north end of a sea bay. The historians think that the castle was built in 3 different stages over time from the 14th to the 16th century.
Battles were fought between Swedish and Danish forces and even pirates over control of the castle in the Middle Ages. The castle was abandoned in 1553, three years after Helsinki was founded in 1550 and Helsinki became strategically more important.

So how is the kayaking going so far? It's going great. We're just taking a short little break and came across some sheep who are just grazing by the sea. I guess by the sea. And my legs fell asleep so I had to get out for a while. But other than that it is going awesome. No capsizing so far. No.

Soaked little puppy. I am. I managed to make it the entire sea kayaking journey without capsizing. At the very end I flipped the boat over when I was getting out.
So this was an awesome experience. We went sea kayaking and we were just paddling through wilderness and these small little islands where we saw different kinds of wildlife. All kinds of different birds. It was just awesome and it was a real workout too. We did this for a few hours. I'm exhausted now but Ioved every minute of it.
Okay, so I was told that usually one in ten people capsize the kayak. I survived the whole four hour journey. I am still dry so I think I did pretty good.

Hello again dear scene walker. Today we're welcomed to the beautiful wooded lands of the Svartå Manor (Fi: Mustion Linna). I preceded you up this hill as we walk past this beautiful medieval looking temple to the private garden. Svartå Manor is located in the town of Raseborg, in the small village of Svartå, 80 km west of Helsinki. And is one of the most famous estates in Finland with over 200 years of history. In fact, in 1561 King Gustav I of Sweden launched one of Finland's first ironworks here.
In the 18th century, the Linder family arrived in Finland from Sweden. The ironworks would come under their control and in the years 1783-1792 the main building of the manor was built. It is surrounded by a large english-style garden renovated in the late 19th century. The glory time of Svartå Manor happened when Hjalmar Linder (1862-1921) was head of the estate. He was a large landowner, the richest man in Finland of his time. He owned Finland's first car in 1902, a Mercedes Simplex. The King of Belgium would have liked to have bought the same car, but Hjalmar offered more. Since no one in Finland knew how to drive such a car, the previous driver and his wife drove it to Svartå Manor, terrifiying the inhabitants of Svartå. Hjalmar was married for 3 years with the sister of the greatest Finn of all time Carl Gustaf Mannerheim (1867-1951), 6th President of Finland.
In the year 1941 the manor from the Linder family was sold. Until Magnus Linder bought it back in 1985. It was a major operation to restore the area and buildings to their original state. Magnus wanted the manor with garden to be opened to the public. The main building (Manor) is now used as a museum. A high-quality hotel is also active on the grounds of the estate. Svartå Manor has become a successful tourism company, which has been transferred to Filip Linder since 2010. Admission to the garden is free, but it is recommended to take a guided tour with a tour of the museum. You'll hear about the long, interesting history, as well as the exciting and tragic phases of the family. A tour of the mansion takes about 45 minutes. Guided tours in Swedish, English, German, French or Russian can be arranged with advance reservation.
The 4* hotel of Svartå Manor consists of 5 historical cottages surrounded by an idyllic garden and river. The cottages date back to the 19th century when they housed the ironworks' workers. Nowadays they have been carefully renovated into modern hotel rooms. Staying in this place guarantees a unique experience to relax in style and comfort. Enjoy the tranquility of this wonderful ancient place.
The Svartå church is another beautiful building that we will visit. It was completed in 1761 and was used by the people of Svartå, Ingå and Lohja. The church with the surrounding garden of the manor makes for a perfect wedding ceremony.
