Gruyères SWITZERLAND – Medieval Town and Home to the world Famous Cheese! Beautiful Swiss Village
Gruyères is a beautiful medieval town in the canton of Fribourg. It's a very cultural place full of history. Gruyères is a great place for foodie enthusiasts. Local delicacies are of course the Gruyères cheese, fondue à la moitié-moitié and desserts such as berries or meringues with double cream. You may enjoy these great foods at the various restaurants allover Gruyères. Very nice to visit is the Château de Gruyère, the castle. It's a very well preveserved medieval piece of heritage that operates today as a museum. The castle has a wonderful garden as well as beautiful and rich interiors. There you can learn more about the dystany that once rules over Gruyère. Gruyères is a village of museums! Visit the HR-Giger museum, which showcases the artwork of Hans-Ruedi Giger, who created the Aliens for the movie of the same name. The HR-Giger bar is also a highlight: in there, you even may take photos! The Tibetan museum showcases the vajrayana (tibetan) Buddhism and culture of this unique civilization. Very beautiful is the blend of the tibetan museum into the Christian chapel. Otherwise, explore the centre and alleys of the village of Gruyères and enjoy the view over the Swiss Alps and the plateau. Go to the Gruyères cheese factory to see how the world-famous Gruyère AOP is made. Be aware that Gruyères can be very touristy: This definitely is the case during the Summer months July and August as well as on weekends. This medieval village is best visited in June or September... on weekdays! Combine a visit to Gruyères with the nearby peak called Moléson; a very underrated summit of the Swiss Alps in Fribourg. Get to discover this wonderful village and get to know why this is considered to be one of the top 10 towns of Switzerland.

How spring looks like in Neuchâtel ,Switzerland! #neuchâtel #switzerland #shorts
It's been a while coming, but here it is. For those of you keen to see all the railways of Switzerland, there are a few in this video that haven't appeared on Youtube yet in 4K. Special thanks to Brad and Association 141.R.568 for making this video possible. We are joining them today on a charter train with historic rolling stock consisting of 8 classic wagons, a post wagon and their signature french steam engine at the rear, the 141.R.568. If you'd like to support them or join a trip in their Swiss classic train, see their website:
Also worth mentioning: Pulling our train today is the Re 4/4 II 11239 Porrentruy, one of only 2 SBB Re 4/4 II's (Re 420) carrying the shield and name of a Swiss town. It was inherited in 1979 from the Ae 6/6 11483, after the Swiss canton of Jura was born and attributed to said locomotive.
Our trip starts at the border station of Vallorbe, a station with an interesting history as being the terminus of the Simplon line and the French line to Dijon. Vallorbe used to be a major border station back in it's day, with over 200 employees. We head along the simplon line to Lausanne where we take the mainline towards Bern. In Palézieux however, we turn off onto the Broye railway, a back street or parallel railway serving smaller towns between the two main lines from Geneva to Zürich. The line joins the Biel - Bern line in Lyss, where we take the main line down to Spiez, before continuing on the lake Thun railway line to Interlaken Ost.
At the rear of the train, we have the 1945 French 141.R.568 locomotive, which restricted our speed to 50 km/h until Croy-Romainmôtier, where a check was made, whereafter the speed was raised to 70 km/h until Bussigny, where the locomotive and a post wagon were uncoupled and completed their trip back to Vallorbe. I included maximum drivable speeds on the screen instead of the actual speeds driven by today's train.
For those wondering, the audio was recorded from the inner cab in order to respect the privacy of the engineers. The clicking sound you can hear is made by the original Hasler speedometer, developed in Switzerland and used in many locomotives around Europe for more than a century.
Hope you enjoy the video, despite the rainy weather.
