Road to the Seven Lakes: from Panjakent Bazaar to the First Lake of the Haft Kul Chain, Tajikistan

Welcome to Northern Tajikistan, where you'll find one of the most scenic places in this region - the road to the Haft Kul lakes. These seven beautiful lakes stretch out over the Shing valley from a height of 1600m to 2400m.
They were formed after an earthquake made a series of dams across the valley, creating a mesmerizing landscape. Or as some say, they were formed by the tears of seven beautiful ladies who transformed themselves into water to be at one with their tears. While this may be just a legend, the stunning beauty of these lakes is absolutely real, and makes them a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Northern Tajikistan.
Join me on a journey through this breathtaking scenery. From the bus station in Panjakent to the rocky roads of Fann Mountains, all the way to the crystal-clear waters of the First Lake named Mizhgon (meaning 'eyelash').

TAJIKISTAN TRAVEL GUIDE. Best Places to Visit in TAJIKISTAN | TOP 20 part 1

Tajikistan (/tɑːˈdʒiːkɪstɑːn/ (About this soundlisten), /tə-, tæ-/; Tajik: Тоҷикистон [tɔdʒikisˈtɔn]), officially the Republic of Tajikistan (Tajik: Ҷумҳурии Тоҷикистон, Jumhurii Tojikiston) is a mountainous, landlocked country in Central Asia with an area of 143,100 km2 (55,300 sq mi)[5][6][7] and an estimated population of 9,275,828 people.[8] It is bordered by Afghanistan to the south, Uzbekistan to the west, Kyrgyzstan to the north, and China to the east. The traditional homelands of the Tajik people include present-day Tajikistan as well as parts of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.

The territory that now constitutes Tajikistan was previously home to several ancient cultures, including the city of Sarazm[14] of the Neolithic and the Bronze Age, and was later home to kingdoms ruled by people of different faiths and cultures, including the Oxus civilisation, Andronovo culture, Buddhism, Nestorian Christianity, Zoroastrianism, Manichaeism and Islam. The area has been ruled by numerous empires and dynasties, including the Achaemenid Empire, Sasanian Empire, Hephthalite Empire, Samanid Empire, Mongol Empire, Timurid dynasty, the Khanate of Bukhara, the Russian Empire, and subsequently the Soviet Union. Within the Soviet Union, the country's modern borders were drawn when it was part of Uzbekistan as an autonomous republic before becoming a full-fledged Soviet republic in 1929.[15]

On 9 September 1991, Tajikistan became an independent sovereign nation when the Soviet Union disintegrated. A civil war was fought almost immediately after independence, lasting from 1992 to 1997. Since the end of the war, newly established political stability and foreign aid have allowed the country's economy to grow. Like all other Central Asian neighbouring states, the country, led by President Emomali Rahmon since 1994, has been criticised by a number of non-governmental organizations for authoritarian leadership, lack of religious freedom, corruption and widespread violations of human rights.

Tajikistan is a presidential republic consisting of four provinces. Most of Tajikistan's population belongs to the Tajik ethnic group,[16] who speak Tajik (a dialect of Persian). Russian is used as the inter-ethnic language. While the state is constitutionally secular, Islam is practiced by 98% of the population. In the Gorno-Badakhshan Oblast of Tajikistan, despite its sparse population, there is large linguistic diversity where Rushani, Shughni, Ishkashimi, Wakhi and Tajik are some of the languages spoken. Mountains cover more than 90% of the country. It has a transition economy that is highly dependent on remittances, aluminium and cotton production. Tajikistan is a member of the United Nations, CIS, OSCE, OIC, ECO, SCO and CSTO as well as an NATO PfP partner.

The Treasure of Penjikent. Tajikistan

Penjikent it is a city in the Sughd province of Tajikistan on the river Zeravshan. It is one of the ancient towns of Sogdiana. The ruins of ancient Penjikent are on the outskirts of the modern city. Near by the ancient Penjikent located the archaeological site Sarazm.

Sarazm is an ancient town and it dates back to the 4th millennium BC. Sarazm today is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is located 15 kilometers west of the city of Panjakent. The area has a length about 1.5 km and a width from 400 to 900 m. The area has a great archaeological interest as it constitutes the first proto-historical agricultural society in this region of Central Asia.

Haftkul or Marguzor lakes or also known as Seven beauties of Shing it is a unique complex of seven lakes (haft - is seven and kul is lake) with the crystal clear turquoise water in the valley of Zarafshan on the north of Tajikistan. The lakes are located on the foothills of Fann mountains. They cascade along the Shing River Valley. The lower lake is located at an altitude of 1598 meters above sea level, and the highest one is at an altitude of 2400 meters. Formed as a result of the movement of a glacier, lakes from a geological point of view are a vivid example of a moraine relief, and from an aesthetic point of view they are a beautiful, amazing, spectacular landscape. The water in Haftkul has a bright turquoise colour due to the mineral salts dissolved in it.
