-English: In this relaxing 14-minute drive video we descent from Lingiades village in Zagori, to Perama, in Ioannina, Epirus, Greece.
The view that this road offers us to the lake and the townscape is absolutely amazing!
Lingiades is one of the Zagorochoria (Villages of Zagori), stands atop Mt. Mitsikeli, and offers a breathtaking view towards the lake, and the city of Ioannina, as well as the mountains beyond the lake, and it is a favourite spot for coffee and lunch for the residents of Ioannina, as well as for visitors.
It is also a village that suffered great casualties during the Nazi German Occupation.
Perama, located to the south-east of the city of Ioannina, close to the foothills of Mt. Mitsikeli, used to be a separate village; since its founding, during the Byzantine Era, its residents were poor, making their living by working as fishermen and boatsmen, and many of them became immigrants in order to fend for themselves and their families, but as the city of Ioannina grew and expanded, it eventually became one of its suburban areas, as well as a well-known tourist destination thanks to the Cave of Perama.

Η θέα που μας προσφέρει αυτή η διαδρομή στη λίμνη και στην πόλη των Ιωαννίνων είναι πραγματικά εκπληκτική!
Το χωριό Λιγκιάδες βρίσκεται πάνω στο όρος Μιτσικέλι και προσφέρει συγκλονιστική θέα προς τη λίμνη και την πόλη των Ιωαννίνων, καθώς και προς τα βουνά πέρα από τη λίμνη, ενώ αποτελεί αγαπημένο στέκι για καφέ και φαγητό τόσο των κατοίκων της πόλης, αλλά και των επισκεπτών.
Είναι επίσης ένα χωριό που υπέστη τεράστιες απώλειες κατά τη διάρκεια της Κατοχής.
Το Πέραμα, που βρίσκεται στα βορειοανατολικά της πόλης, κοντά στους πρόποδες του Όρους Μιτσικέλι, ήταν ξεχωριστό χωριό, αλλά καθώς η πόλη των Ιωαννίνων μεγάλωνε και επεκτείνονταν, σταδιακά ενσωματώθηκε σε αυτήν και έγινε προάστιο. Από την ίδρυσή του την εποχή του Βυζαντίου, οι κάτοικοί του ήταν ιδιαίτερα φτωχοί και δραστηριοποιούνταν ως ψαράδες και βαρκάρηδες. Αυτός είναι και ο λόγος που πολλοί από αυτούς αποφάσισαν να μεταναστεύσουν σε άλλα κράτη προκειμένου να διασφαλίσουν τα προς το ζην.
Πλέον το Πέραμα θεωρείται προάστιο της πόλης των Ιωαννίνων και αποτελεί γνωστό τουριστικό προορισμό χάρη στο Σπήλαιο του Περάματος.

-English: In this Springtime trip, we're driving from the mountain town of Metsovo towards Perama, an old village that is now considered part of the suburban area of Ioannina, in Epirus, Greece.
We begin our trip in Metsovo, a scenic town in Pindos Mountain Range and close to Egnatia Odos (A2 Highway), and take the old Ioannina - Trikala national road towards Ioannina; this road is now become almost absolete because of Egnatia Odos.
In the third part, we continue from Balduma, a small settlement next to Arachthos River. In the past, Balduma was known for its military iron bridge that connected both riverbanks and made it possible travel East of Pindos. From there, we continue towards the end of our journey in Perama - Ioannina, after crossing the Driskos Pass and the Mazia Village, and taking in the gorgeous view of the entire Ioannina Basin.
The beautiful aroma of pine trees, flowers, and herbs, accompanied by the song of a miriad birds and insects, and almost non-existent traffic, make this route one of the most enjoyable in Epirus.
-Ελληνικά: Σε αυτή την ανοιξιάτικη εκδρομή διάρκειας οδηγούμε από την ορεινή κωμόπολη του Μετσόβου προς το Πέραμα, ένα παλιό χωριό που πλέον θεωρείται προάστιο της πόλης των Ιωαννίνων.
Ξεκινάμε το ταξίδι μας από το Μέτσοβο, τη γραφική κωμόπολη που φωλιάζει στην Οροσειρά της Πίνδου, πολύ κοντά στην Εγνατία Οδό (Αυτοκινητόδρομος Α2) και παίρνουμε την παλιά εθνική οδό Ιωαννίνων - Τρικάλων με κατεύθυνση τα Ιωάννινα. Λόγω της Εγνατίας Οδού, αυτός ο δρόμος είναι πλέον σχεδόν εγκαταλελειμμένος.
Στο τρίτο μέρος, συνεχίζουμε από τη Μπαλντούμα, έναν μικρό οικισμό-πέρασμα δίπλα στον ποταμό Άραχθο. Στο παρελθόν, η Μπαλντούμα ήταν γνωστή για τη μεταλλική, στρατιωτικού τύπου γέφυρα που συνέδεε τις δύο όχθες του ποταμού και επέτρεπε το πέρασμα προς τα ανατολικά της Πίνδου. Από εκεί συνεχίζουμε και ολοκληρώνουμε τη διαδρομή μας ως το Πέραμα Ιωαννίνων, περνώντας από το πέρασμα του Δρίσκου και από το χωριό Μάζια και απολαμβάνουμε πανοραμική θέα σε ολόκληρο το λεκανοπέδιο των Ιωαννίνων.
Το μεθυστικό άρωμα των κωνοφόρων, των λουλουδιών και των βοτάνων, σε συνδυασμό με το τραγούδι από μυριάδες πουλιά και έντομα και την εξαιρετικά χαμηλή κίνηση, καθιστούν αυτήν τη διαδρομή, ως μία από τις πιο απολαυστικές της Ηπείρου.

-English: In this Springtime trip, we're driving from the mountain town of Metsovo towards Perama, an old village that is now considered part of the suburban area of Ioannina, in Epirus, Greece.
We begin our trip in Metsovo, a scenic town in Pindos Mountain Range and close to Egnatia Odos (A2 Highway), and take the old Ioannina - Trikala national road towards Ioannina; this road is now become almost absolete because of Egnatia Odos.
In the first part, that takes us from the main entrance to Metsovo towards Mikro Peristeri village, we drive through the narrow and sheer cliffside road that offers a gorgeous view towards the west of the Pindos Mountain Range.
The beautiful aroma of rain, pine and herbs, accompanied by the song of a miriad birds and insects, and almost non-existent traffic, make this route one of the most enjoyable in Epirus.
-Ελληνικά: Σε αυτή την ανοιξιάτικη εκδρομή οδηγούμε από την ορεινή κωμόπολη του Μετσόβου προς το Πέραμα, ένα παλιό χωριό που πλέον θεωρείται προάστιο της πόλης των Ιωαννίνων.
Ξεκινάμε το ταξίδι μας από το Μέτσοβο, τη γραφική κωμόπολη που φωλιάζει στην Οροσειρά της Πίνδου, πολύ κοντά στην Εγνατία Οδό (Αυτοκινητόδρομος Α2) και παίρνουμε την παλιά εθνική οδό Ιωαννίνων - Τρικάλων με κατεύθυνση τα Ιωάννινα. Λόγω της Εγνατίας Οδού, αυτός ο δρόμος είναι πλέον σχεδόν εγκαταλελειμμένος.
Στο πρώτο μέρος, που μας ταξιδεύει από την κεντρική είσοδο του Μετσόβου ως το χωριό Μικρό Περιστέρι, διασχίζουμε τον στενό και απότομο ορεινό δρόμο που μας προσφέρει καταπληκτική θέα προς τα δυτικά της Οροσειράς της Πίνδου.
Το μεθυστικό άρωμα της βροχής, των κωνοφόρων και των βοτάνων, σε συνδυασμό με το τραγούδι από μυριάδες πουλιά και έντομα και την εξαιρετικά χαμηλή κίνηση, καθιστούν αυτήν τη διαδρομή, ως μία από τις πιο απολαυστικές της Ηπείρου.

In this video, I am taking a relaxing autumn-morning stroll along the suburban lakeside area of Perama, in Ioannina, Epirus, Greece.
Ioannina is a city well known for the beautiful architecture of its old town and castle, which is one of very few castles with a civillian population still living within its walls, as well as its picturesque lake and the nameless island, also one of very few lake islands with an active village in Greece.
Perama, located to the south-east of the city of Ioannina, close to the foothills of Mt. Mitsikeli, used to be a separate village; since its founding, during the Byzantine Era, its residents were poor, making their living by working as fishermen and boatsmen, and many of them became immigrants in order to fend for themselves and their families, but as the city of Ioannina grew and expanded, it eventually became one of its suburban areas, as well as a well-known tourist destination thanks to the Cave of Perama, which was found by accident in the early '40s, during the Italian bombings of Ioannina; nowadays, the Cave of Perama is open to visitors and many of them brave the 45-minute tour through the ascending cave complex.

Τα Ιωάννινα είναι μια πόλη γνωστή για την όμορφη αρχιτεκτονική της παλιάς πόλης και του κάστρου της, το οποίο είναι από τα ελάχιστα που κατοικούνται ακόμα και σήμερα, καθώς και για τη γραφική λίμνη της και το νησί δίχως όνομα που βρίσκεται στα νερά της και που είναι, επίσης, ένα από τα ελάχιστα λιμναία νησιά στην Ελλάδα που φιλοξενεί χωριό το οποίο κατοικείται ακόμα και σήμερα.
Το Πέραμα, που βρίσκεται στα βορειοανατολικά της πόλης, κοντά στους πρόποδες του Όρους Μιτσικέλι, ήταν ξεχωριστό χωριό, αλλά καθώς η πόλη των Ιωαννίνων μεγάλωνε και επεκτείνονταν, σταδιακά ενσωματώθηκε σε αυτήν και έγινε προάστιο. Από την ίδρυσή του την εποχή του Βυζαντίου, οι κάτοικοί του ήταν ιδιαίτερα φτωχοί και δραστηριοποιούνταν ως ψαράδες και βαρκάρηδες. Αυτός είναι και ο λόγος που πολλοί από αυτούς αποφάσισαν να μεταναστεύσουν σε άλλα κράτη προκειμένου να διασφαλίσουν τα προς το ζην.
Πλέον το Πέραμα θεωρείται προάστιο της πόλης των Ιωαννίνων και αποτελεί γνωστό τουριστικό προορισμό χάρη στο Σπήλαιο του Περάματος, το οποίο ανακαλύφθηκε τυχαία στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του '40, κατά τη διάρκεια των βομβαρδισμών από τους Ιταλούς.
Σήμερα το Σπήλαιο του Περάματος είναι ανοιχτό στο κοινό και πολλοί είναι εκείνοι που τολμούν τη 45-λεπτη ανηφορική ξενάγηση στο εσωτερικό του.
