Driving in the Netherlands: Snelwegen A10 E22, A5 & A4 E19 from Amsterdam to Leiden
In this video you can drive along on rijkswegen A10 E22 (Ring Amsterdam West), A5 and A4 E19 from Amsterdam to Leiden. The West of the Netherlands has some of the highest highway densities in Europe with impressive capacity.
We start on the A10 Ring West around Amsterdam, coming from the direction of the A8 (Zaandam). After a few kilometers we merge onto the A5, one of the newer highways in the Netherlands and effectively a bypass of the A10 West in the direction of the A4. The A10 is one of the busiest beltways in the country and needed to be relieved, especially in the West of Amsterdam. Since expansion of the beltway is almost impossible due to space constraints, the A5 was built as a bypass via the Amsterdam port area.
A large part of the A5 is elevated, which is quite unusual for new highways and especially in the Netherlands. It crosses the A9 highway near Airport Schiphol before it joins the A4. The A5 also goes underneath a taxi way of the airport which is pretty cool.
The A4 is one of the busiest highways in the Netherlands, effectively connecting the majority of the Randstad urban area. It's one of the most traffic-prone highways in the Netherlands as it connects the three largest cities. Leiden is just about halfway between Amsterdam and the Hague, respectively the largest and 3rd largest cities of the country.

Wandelen Zuiderzeepad van Den Oever naar Zurich
Wandelen over de afsluitdijk van Den Oever naar Zurich. Of andersom. Voor de ervaring onderweg maakt de richting niet uit; het water is links en het water is rechts. Wat bezielt een mens om 32 kilometer rechtuit over een dijk te gaan lopen? Tja. Omdat het kan. Omdat het dit enige mogelijkheid is als je zoiets wilt doen. Omdat je bij andere wandelingen snel verdwaalt. Omdat je je nieuwe vriend of vriendin wilt verrassen (en dat gaat vast lukken zo). Of gewoon omdat het een onderdeel van het Zuiderzeepad is.

Wij zijn Pieter en Marieke en sinds 2015 varen we met onze motorboot de Canicula door Nederland. Tijdens onze eerste vaartocht door Overijssel vallen we van de ene verbazing in de andere. Over de imposante bebouwing van Vollenhove, de massieve zeesluis van Blokzijl, het dijkdorp Kuinre. Geweldig! Inmiddels zijn we bijna heel Nederland door gevaren. Om iedereen te laten zien hoe mooi Nederland is vanaf het water, maken we video's van onze vaartochten en schrijven we artikelen over wat we allemaal tegenkomen onderweg. De Canicula is een St. Tropez cabincruiser van negen meter lang, tachtig centimeter diep en ruim twee meter hoog.

In this video you can ride along on provincial roads N392, N380 & N381 from Gorredijk to Oosterwolde in the Netherlands' Friesland province. In recent years they upgraded a part of the N381 to a 2 x 2 expressway.
The N381 runs from Drachten to Emmen near border with Germany. Although there is demand to upgrade the N381 across its entire length, it has only been upgraded from Drachten to Oosterwolde in recent years partly thanks to a one-time increase in state budget for the Friesland province.

Driving in the Netherlands: N31 Expressway from Leeuwarden to Drachten
In this video you can drive along on the N31 expressway from Leeuwarden (capital of Friesland) to Drachten. The N31 is a busy 2x2 expressway connecting the 2 largest cities of the Friesland province.
Beyond Leeuwarden the N31 turns into the A31 continuing to Harlingen on the Waddensea. At Drachten the N31 converts into the N381, which was recently upgraded to a 2x2 expressway until the town of Oosterwolde. The N381 connects Drachten to the city of Emmen in the East.

Via het (de?) Kattegattleden, dat is het fietspad langs het Kattegatt fiets ik naar Onsala via Kungsbacka. Onderweg stoppen we bij de Borras Skara, een smalle kloof waar een rotsblok in hangt. En ik ga in op de prangende vraag: is het nou wat, zo'n fietsvakantie in Zweden?

Book Study Tour:
You can travel any distance you like here on paths segregated from traffic. At the beginning the road is on the other side of the canal from the access road which after a short distance turns into a cycle path. This afternoon I cycled the 25 km from Assen to Oosterwolde (part of which is shown in this video) and came back by a different route.
This route follows a main road, but you never have to ride on the road. This is a wonderful place to cycle.
