If you drive the 5 or 99 north, near Yuba City, you've seen the Sutter Buttes. They're touted as the world's smallest mountain range. You can't hike them until the fall, but a car or bike trip on the roads around them is well worth the journey if you can't wait that long.

Best Places in Northern California/ Road-trip to Lake Tahoe, Burney Falls, Lake Shasta & Caverns
Warning: Most parts of the video are road trips.
We visited these places in Northern California last summer 2019. The first stop is Lake Tahoe. We took the Sunset Dinner Cruise with Ms Dixie II. It was a 2-hour cruise from Zephyr Cove Resort in South Lake Tahoe to Emerald Bay and back. On our second Day, we took the Scenic Gondola Ride from Heavenly Ski Resort that carried us to the peak of the Heavenly Mountain Gondola. It is a 2.4 mile ride up the mountain and we got to see a panoramic view of Lake Tahoe from the Observation Deck.
The next part of the video is road-trip to MacArthur Burney Falls State Park. It is more than 3 hours from Yuba City. We drove through Interstate 5 to Redding then took highway 299, and highway 89. The 129-foot waterfalls is considered the most beautiful in the entire state.
The last part is trip to Lake Shasta and Shasta Caverns. We took a catamaran that brought us Lake Shasta. Then from the foot of the mountain, a shuttle bus took us to the opening of the Shasta Caverns. We enjoyed our tour inside the caverns. Upon going out the caverns, we were enthralled by the spectacular view of Lake Shasta.
