Sardinia TOP 10 Places to Visit: Costa Smeralda, Cagliari, Villasimius, Alghero, Stintino, and more
If you are planning to visit Sardinia, in Italy, here you’ll find the best tips on things to do on the island, with a sightseeing map of the most relevant points of interest to enjoy, so you can easily imagine and organize your trip: WHAT to see, HOW to plan your visit, and WHY to discover Sardinia region.
In this video: - WHAT are the major attractions that you can't go home without having seen, including Cagliari, Alghero, Emerald Coast (Costa Smeralda), Pelosa beach, the village of Bosa, Villasimius, Costa Rei, Limbara mountain, Gallura, Tavolara island, Capo Ferrato, Stintino village. - Then, I’ll describe to you HOW to follow a tour to better visit the island, with a clear map of Sardinia and tips to organize your trip and your vacation. • Finally, we’ll discover WHY to visit Sardinia, with its rich traditions and wonderful nature!
So, what are the most relevant points of interest in this fascinating island? Here are my answers:
COSTA REI Located on the southeast coast of Sardinia, Costa Rei is a small village. This place is much appreciated by international travelers as a destination for holidays in Sardinia. Across miles of stunning white sand beaches, here you can find high-quality tourism services: some of the best family hotels, luxury villas, resorts, restaurants, and much more.
GALLURA Among the favorite tourist destinations in the Mediterranean, Gallura lies on a beautiful stretch of land almost lapping Corsica, overlooking the Strait of Bonifacio. The extreme north of the island is the natural pearl of the promontory of Capo Testa, with its beaches surrounded by the greenery of strawberry trees and a rich Mediterranean vegetation.
COSTA SMERALDA In particular, the Costa Smeralda is a coastal stretch that is part of Gallura and which extends for about 55 kilometers. Moving south there is the imposing island of Tavolara, in front of which there are other beautiful beaches such as Lu Impostu and Brandinchi.
ALGHERO Alghero is a city loved for its walkway along the port’s bastions, the red roofs that touch the sky and the historical center: a labyrinth of narrow streets that connect piazzas bustling with life.
VILLASIMIUS Villasimius is popular for its renowned resorts, hotels and long white sand beaches with crystal clear waters, diving sites, coves, and a landscape covered in the Mediterranean scrub.
LIMBARA Visit Monte Limbara, a rocky granitic massif not very high (1,359 meters), recommended to those who want to hike and enjoy nature without a deep trekking experience.
CAGLIARI Most tourists begin their visit in the island capital of Cagliari, stopping at least to climb from Piazza della Costituzione to Bastione San Remy. Cagliari can be an excellent base for visiting the southern coast of the island, which has some of the best beaches in Sardinia.
STINTINO (LA PELOSA BEACH) The main tourist attraction of Stintino is the beach of La Pelosa, made of fine white sand and a turquoise-blue sea. An icon here is the tower, built in 1578 by the Aragonese, called Torre della Pelosa.
BOSA In the village of Bosa, a tangle of medieval streets winds from the old stone bridge to the hilltop Malaspina Castle.
CAPO FERRATO The wild promontory of Capo Ferrato is ideal for taking beautiful walks and breathing in nature.

Places to see in ( Sardinia - Italy ) Macomer
Places to see in ( Sardinia - Italy ) Macomer
Macomer is a town and comune of Sardinia in the province of Nuoro. It is situated on the southern ascent to the central plateau of this part of Sardinia, at the junction of narrow-gauge lines branching from the main railroad line running east to Nuoro and west to Bosa.
The district, especially the Campeda, is well suited for grazing and horse and cattle breeding, which is carried on to a considerable extent. Macomer, known to the Greek geographer Ptolemy as Macopsissa, has been inhabited since antiquity. In 1478 was the scene of the historical battle between the Sardinians and the Aragonese, which ended the independence of Sardinia. In 1767, under the Kingdom of Sardinia, it became the capital of the Marquisate of Marghine. The Marquisate included the nearby villages of Birori, Bolotana, Borore, Bortigali, Dualchi, Lei, Mulargia, Noragugume and Silanus.
In 1949, a statue called The Venus of Macomer was discovered in a cave located in Marras area, in a gorge of the river S'Adde. The artifact depicts a Goddess Mother dating back to the Palaeolithic period. It is about 14 centimetres (5.5 in) high and was built with local basalt. It is currently kept in the National Archaeological Museum of Cagliari. Nowadays, Macomer is a destination for tourists who want to admire the beautiful landscape around the city.
The region is richer in the bronze-age towers known as nuraghi than any other part of Sardinia. The old parish church of San Pantaleone has three Roman mile-stones in front of it, belonging to the Roman high-road from Carales to Turris Libisonis. A modern road now follows the ancient one. Recently an ethnographic museum called Le Arti Antiche (The ancient Arts) has been opened, where it is possible to see tools traditionally used for agriculture and livestock, folk costumes, and photographs. The Monte di Sant'Antonio (St. Anthony's Mountain) has a great historical and naturalistic importance; on 13 June of every year the anniversary of the Saint of Padua is celebrated there.

Places to see in ( Sardinia - Italy ) Ulassai
Places to see in ( Sardinia - Italy ) Ulassai
Ulassai, Ulassa in sardinian language, is a comune in the Province of Nuoro in the Italian region Sardinia, located about 70 kilometres northeast of Cagliari and about 20 kilometres southwest of Tortolì. Ulassai borders the following municipalities: Esterzili, Gairo, Jerzu, Osini, Perdasdefogu, Seui, Tertenia, Ussassai, Villaputzu.
Ulassai is a small mountain town in the heart of Ogliastra, Sardinia’s most unspoiled and authentic region. Surrounded by high limestone cliffs and at an altitude of 700 m amsl, it attracts visitors for the combination of inland Sardinia’s uncontaminated nature and authentic traditions with the beauty of the coastline, only 20 minutes away by car.
Ulassai offers, in just a few km from the village centre, a wide variety of attractions: from the distinctive limestone “tacchi”, so-called because they resemble upturned shoe heels (“tacco” means “heel” in Italian), very popular with climbers from al lover the world, to the “Su Marmuri” cavern, one of Sardinia’s most famous; from the high, foaming Lecorci and Lequarci waterfalls, which form after the autumn rains, to the Taccu plateau with its woods of centuries-old oaks and strawberry trees, through which various paths weave to offer walks with breathtaking views. In the town centre of Ulassai you can still find, almost intact, the typical architecture of the ancient Sard villages. You can admire traditional arches ( the Arco di “Barigau”, the actual entrance gate to the heart of the town and a majestic monument, what’s left ofan old town wall), cloisters and other buildings from the past which exude, still today, the odour of our forebear’s times.
Memories of ancient crafts live on among the people of Ulassai, the best example of which are the fine works of the women of the Cooperativa tessile di Su Marmuri (weaving cooperative) who, as in the past, skilfully weave their wools to create unique woven designs of important artistic and handicraft value. For a few years now, in Ulassai a process of developing this extraordinary natural heritage made of rocks, waterfalls and woods has been underway. This heritage, which for thousands of years was regarded by the Ulassai community as “merely where they worked”, is now an important resource for tourism.
Hundreds of rock climbing routes have been created along with walking paths for nature lovers, so that, over the course of about 10 years, Ulassai has become an important centre in Sardinia for outdoor sport lovers.
