The tourist attractions in Germany are by no means limited to the cities and many other great attractions can be found in every part of the country.

5. Cologne Cathedral: Easily the greatest Gothic cathedral in Germany, Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) has been Cologne’s most famous landmark for centuries. Construction of the Cologne Cathedral began in 1248 and took, with interruptions, more than 600 years to complete. It is dedicated to the saints Peter and Mary and is the seat of the Catholic Archbishop of Cologne.
4. Holstentor in Lübeck: The Holstentor is one of the two remaining city gates of the city of Lübeck. Built in 1464, the gate now serves as a museum. Because of its two captivating round towers and arched entrance it is regarded as a symbol of Lübeck. Together with the old city center (Altstadt) of Lübeck it is one of the top tourist attractions in Germany.
3. Heidelberg Old City: Located in the Neckar river valley, Heidelberg is one Germany’s most popular tourist destinations. During WWII, the city was almost completely spared by allied bombings which destroyed most of Germany’s larger inner cities. As a result, Heidelberg has retained its baroque charm of narrow streets, picturesque houses and the famous Heidelberg Castle.
2. Brandenburg Gate in Berlin: The Brandenburg Gate is the only surviving city gate of Berlin and symbolizes the reunification of East and West Berlin. Built in the 18th century, the Brandenburg Gate is the entry to Unter den Linden, the prominent boulevard of linden trees which once led directly to the palace of the Prussian monarchs. It is regarded as one of the most famous landmarks in Europe.
#Neuschwanstein: The ultimate fairytale castle, Neuschwanstein is situated on a rugged hill near Füssen in southwest Bavaria. It was the inspiration for the Sleeping Beauty castles in the Disneyland parks. The castle was commissioned by King Ludwig II of Bavaria who was declared insane when the castle was almost completed in 1886 and found dead a few days later.

THE BEST DAY TRIPS FROM DUSSELDORF, GERMANY
I’ve just come back from travelling around Germany for 10 days and one of my favourite spots was Dusseldorf.
I have to admit I’m not the best at geography sometimes, but when I arrived in the city I quickly discovered there were some great day trips from Dusseldorf, all just a short train ride away.
I’d heard of Cologne, Dortmund and Essen but I never realised they were so close together. That meant as soon as I arrived in Düsseldorf I wanted to explore all North Rhine-Westphalia had to offer. (That’s the name of the region where you’ll find all of these places by the way!)
Throw in some crazy industrial landscapes like Zeche Zollverein and Duisburg Landschaftspark (just wait until you see the photos) and you’ve got the making of a fantastic few days in and around Dusseldorf.

The foundations of the residence of the city's Roman governor (1st - 4th century) were uncovered under the Rathaus (city hall). A visit is like taking an elevator back to Roman times. From the entrance to the Kleine Budengasse, there is also access to an old sewer system, exemplifying the engineering skills of Roman builders. Opening hours: daily except on Monday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
The Roman Tower is an excellent example for the Roman fortifications and formed the northwest corner of the Roman Cologne. The northwestern corner tower was build in the first century a.D.. It is also famous for its well-preserved mosaic decoration.
The Römisch-Germanisches Museum gives an impressive account of the history of the Romans along the Rhine. The Roman mosaic with scenes from the world of Dionysos (around 220/230 A.D.) and the reconstructed tomb of the legionary Poblicius (around 40 A.D.) are probably its best known exhibits. Built above the Roman town villa with the world-famous Dionysus mosaic the Römisch-Germanisches Museum houses examples of art, culture and everyday life in Roman and early medieval Cologne
