Cuxhaven is a seaside town on Germany’s North Sea coast. Brightly colored shelters dot its sandy beach. The Kugelbake, a wooden navigational tower, stands at the mouth of the Elbe River. The UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea Visitor Centre Cuxhaven has a nature trail and exhibits on the area’s tidal flats and wildlife. The port is a gateway to the nearby tidal island of Neuwerk and the small Heligoland archipelago.
Until 1937, Cuxhaven was part of Hamburg; in a reorganization two towns near Hamburg that were part of Prussia were given to Hamburg in exchange for Cuxhaven. With 55000 citizens, Cuxhaven isn't a very large city. It still can boast roughly 3 million booked nights a year, making it one of the largest seaside resorts in Germany.
Tourism is one of the traditional businesses of Cuxhaven. The other two are the fish industry, and the harbour. The city is trying to expand the latter and has invested a lot of money in the modernization and expansion of the port facility. Still, the economic situation isn't all too good and tourism remains the major industry of the city. Many people have left Cuxhaven in the past decades to settle elsewhere. Many of those who remain are retired, contributing to the small, quiet town ambiance.
Near Cuxhaven, between 1945 and 1964 about 500 rockets were launched. The best known rocket launches which took place in the area of Cuxhaven, were the launches of three V2 rockets in the operation Backfire, in order to demonstrate Allied forces the technique of the wonder weapon V2 in October 1945. The only thing remembering to rocketry at Cuxhaven is a trough near the way from Arensch to Sahlenburg.
Cuxhaven is a quiet place. If you're looking for action and parties, it's probably not the right destination. If you're looking for a quiet city by the sea, Cuxhaven becomes a much more interesting choice. Most people come to Cuxhaven either via train or car. Some ferry services exist, but they are overall negligible.

Оставили машину на платной парковке, зашли на территорию. Первое, что меня удивило, это бесконечный поток детей на велосипедах. Что они делают в замке? Ну ладно, может, какая-то экскурсия для велолюбителей.
Замок Нойхаус был построен в эпоху Возрождения в 14 веке и служил резиденцией князей-епископов. 30 лет назад его полностью отремонтировали. Выглядит как новенький. Вокруг два музея и парк с цветами, утками и шмелями.
Это не только популярное место для свадебных фоточек, но еще и обычная средняя школа. Даже не гимназия, прикиньте?
Причем в таком большом замке не хватает места всем желающим ученикам, сейчас пристраивают дополнительное здание на 2800 квадратных метров и велоподвал на 200 велосипедов.

With the Wattenmeer center, the Heligoland archipelago, the nearby tidal island of Neuwerk several nature trails can be explored outside of the town.
We start our tour of Cuxhaven at the train station. Walking south we see some more residential area first along the Große Hardewiek street. Soon we get to the town center though before we see more of it we check out the Schloss Ritzebüttel - the local castle and garden.
After our round through the garden we get to the town center with the Nordersteinstraße, where most shops are located. As we walk back up north we see the lively town and get to see the water town (Wasserturm Cuxhaven) and city park.
We completed our short round in Cuxhaven. For more nature the old harbor and Alte Liebe observation deck are further up north. Paderborn is a city in western Germany. Romanesque Paderborn Cathedral is known for its large crypt and the Drei-Hasen-Fenster, a stone window carving in the nearby cloister. Multimedia exhibits on computer and digital technologies are the focus of the Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum. In the northwest, Schloss Neuhaus is a centuries-old castle with formal gardens. Its grounds are home to art and natural history museums.
In the 8th century the First Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne founded Paderborn around the many springs that feed the River Pader. Paderborn remains a city of Medieval wonders like a cathedral holding the relics of the 4th-century Saint Liborius.
1,200 years after his remains were brought to the city St Liborius is still celebrated by a cheerful city festival in summer that mixes a fair with a holy procession. The bishopric established by Charlemagne became the seat of Imperial Prince-Bishops who wielded both political and religious power, and whose marvellous Renaissance palace is still standing tall. In the 10th century Paderborn was chosen as a residence by Holy Roman Emperor Henry II, and the remnants of his palace and a Byzantine-style church are open to visitors.
The mesmerising cathedral has been the site of a church since Charlemagne founded a bishopric at this very location in the 8th century. As we see it now, Paderborn Cathedral’s architecture is both Romanesque and Gothic and was completed relatively quickly during the 13th century. The largest computer museum in the world is hosted by the former premises of Nixdorf Computer AG. The HNF guides you through five millennia of information and communication technology, from the origin of the written word in Ancient Mesopotamia to 21st-century concepts like artificial intelligence, the Internet and robotics.
With an incredible variety of sacred art from the 900s to the 1900s, Paderborn’s diocesan museum is the oldest in the German speaking world. In 1964 the foundation walls of the Paderborn’s Kaiserpfalz (seat of the Holy Roman Emperor) were discovered next to the cathedral.
Just beside the cathedral and attached to the Kaiserpfalz is the oldest known hall church north of the Alps .The Bartholomäuskapelle is a Byzantine-style temple that has no architectural equivalent in Germany . It dates to roughly 1017 and was built not long after the Kaiserpfalz.
The refined Baroque church in the centre of the city was completed in just ten years between 1682 and 1692. Originally the Marktkirche was a counter-reformation Jesuit church, and the lavish ornamentation on the pulpit and altar reflects that spirit. At the start of the 17th century on the orders of the Prince-Bishop Dietrich von Fürstenberg the city replaced its old town hall with a magnificent new building in the Weser Renaissance style.
The residence for Paderborn’s Prince-Bishops, Schloss Neuhaus was begun in the 1200s and was extended over the next 300 years by each of its famous inhabitants. In a showroom on a trading estate in Paderborn’s northern outskirts is a museum endowed with a massive collection of vintage tractors.
At Am Abdinghof 11 is one of the oldest and finest half-timbered houses in Paderborn. This gabled, three-storey house dates from 1560, and what makes it obligatory is the decoration on the facade. In case you still have an appetite for medieval religious architecture, the Busdorfkirche is another enigmatic building consecrated in 1036 by Bishop Meinwerk.
Paderborn’s answer to the problem of medieval water supply was to build small stone reservoirs or “Kümpe” in its squares. Now, Paderborn has the distinction of being on the shortest river in Germany. A left tributary of the Lippe, the Pader is only four kilometres long, despite being broad and having a high volume. Once a Benedictine monastery, the Abdinghofkirche was also founded in the 11th century by Bishop Meinwerk, and has two Romanesque towers looming over the Paderquellgebiet. For nine days beginning on the first Saturday after 23 July Paderborn is given over to a festival going back to 836 when the relics of St Liborius of Le Mans were brought to the city.

After almost a year without being able to travel, both domestically and abroad, the situation on the COVID-19 front, at least in Europe & Germany, has improved somewhat. In May 2021, we were able to travel with our family to a location where I spent my youth on vacation. Beautiful memories and new impressions. Büsum in Schleswig-Holstein on the German North Sea.
