Packed with unforgettable landscapes, breathtaking scenery, and an unparalleled combination of lakes, mountains, and lush greenery, the island nation has to be seen to be truly understood.
New Zealand pretty much needs to be on your list if you’re at all an adventure sports enthusiast – or even if you’re just interested in trying them out. Bungee jumping, mountaineering, skydiving, paragliding, mountain biking, kayaking, canyoning, parachuting, caving, zip lining… Let’s just say that the list is endless when it comes to what outdoor activities you can get up to in this far-flung destination.
You can get to grips with adventure sports in Queenstown, surrounded by mountain and lake scenery. Then there’s the dramatic Fiordland – part of the landscape that made up Peter Jackson’s movie interpretation of Middle Earth for Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit (you can even visit The Shire!). Fiordland
One of the most scenic spots in New Zealand is the Fiordland National Park. Here, you can set off on incredible hikes, fish for trout or cruise on the spectacular fjords (named sounds here) in the south-western corner of the South Island. Milford Sound is the biggest attraction in Fiordland, and it is a true fjord created by a glacier.
On a cruise through Milford Sound, you can spot waterfalls, admire the sheer rock faces towering over the water and even see wildlife like dolphins and penguins.
Tongariro National Park
The first national park of New Zealand, Tongariro is known for its surprises and extremes. The park’s diverse range of ecosystems includes tranquil lakes, active volcanoes, herb fields, untamed forests and desert-like plateaus.
Start your trek at the Whakapapa Visitor Center, just a three hour hike from the stunning Taranaki Falls. The short hike will take you through scrubland and forest and across the lava line of volcanic eruptions from hundreds of years ago

MUST VISIT IN NELSON | CENTRE OF NZ | MAPUA WHARF
Centre of New Zealand | Mapua Wharf | Rabbit Island | Nelson Queens Garden - Day 5
Hi guys, we are Cai and Dee! :) Here is Day 5 of our Discover Nelson Tasman NZ vlog series. It is also the first day of 2021! In this video, we will take you to some of Nelson City's top attractions and also check out a highly recommended spot to us-Mapua Wharf, our special accommodation for the leg of this trip.
Centre of New Zealand
We started our 2021 no other than walking! This walking track though has a geographical significance given this is the central point of surveyors in New Zealand. Situated at the top of the Botanical Garden Hill where you can see panoramic views of Nelson City from high above. The walking track we took is unsealed though and did have a steep climb. The walking track along Matai river though is much more wheelchair and buggy friendly so would recommend that you take this track if you are taking children with you. The shortest track is 2kms and in our video you will see why this is worth walking up to.
Queens Garden
Another free top attraction in Nelson city is the Queen's garden. This garden marks the celebration of Queen Victoria's Jubilee in 1892! A pretty old garden indeed but its well maintained and there was a sculpture trail too which was worth seeing.
Mapua Wharf
A few of our friends have recommended for us to check out Mapua Wharf which is about a 20 minute drive from Nelson city and they said for us to grab lunch there by the waterside restaurants. And boy we were not disappointed. The ambiance, the food was an absolute summer stunner and we can see how Mapua Wharf is so busy during summer time. This gem is found by the Waimea estuary, the largest estuary in the South Island. We talked about more facts and things to do in Mapua wharf in this video.
Appleby House and Rabbit Huts
After that yummy lunch it was time to check in to our unique accommodation! The appleby house and Rabbit Huts. We stayed in an ensuite hut and did a room tour as usual in this video. What we haven't shown is that the Rabbit huts have a shared kitchen and outdoor cooking facilities that are pretty equipped and have all you need to cook a meal. Also, they have a library and a separate cabin where you can hang out with your friends and family. A nice spot for a getaway with a touch of luxury!
Rabbit Island
We grabbed dinner and decided to checkout the Rabbit island or of curiosity and wondered whether there were rabbits there? Find out in our video if we did see rabbits lol. Kidding aside, this place is quite a local gem. Only formed 7000 years ago when a series of barrier island formed by the entrance of Waimea estuary, this is a popular place for locals to spend Christmas summer holiday by the beach. It's inhabited and has opening and closing hours so do check out the video for more information about this beachside local gem.

This morning we drive into Nelson in New Zealand for a day of city touring. After doing a bit of shopping for our supplies at Torpedo7, we borrow some bikes from the Tasman Bay Backpackers and start exploring Nelson City.
First, we check out Trafalgar Square and the Jens Hansen – The Ringmaker jewellers where The One Ring from the Lord of the Rings was made. We get some movie insights by visiting Jen Hansen in Nelson. Then just across the road is The Bead Gallery, a cool and quirky bead shop in Nelson.
We cycle through Queen’s Gardens in Nelson City full of water features, bridges and gardens on our way to the Botanical Reserve. The Botanical Reserve has a number of bush walks including one that goes to the Centre of New Zealand.
The Centre of New Zealand has some awesome views of Nelson City and the surrounding hills. Then it’s back on our bikes and return to the Tasman Bay Backpackers.

New Zealand, which is made up of two main islands, the North Island and the South Island, is a fantastic place to visit. The island nation must be seen to be properly comprehended, with incomparable panoramas, beautiful scenery, and an unparalleled combination of lakes, mountains, and lush flora.
The top places to visit in New Zealand are listed below.
10. Stewart Island.
Stewart Island is New Zealand's third-largest island, located even further south than South Island. Hiking, camping, and birdwatching are among the most popular outdoor activities on Stewart Island.
9. Nelson.
Nelson, at the summit of the South Island, is noted for having the most sunshine hours per year of anywhere in New Zealand. Nelson is a terrific site for outdoor activity because of its great temperature and the fact that it is surrounded by three national parks.

Paihia is a fantastic destination to visit in New Zealand if you want to see the Bay of Islands. Paihia is known for its small-town charm, but it also has several excellent hotels and recreational opportunities to appeal to visitors.
4. Auckland.
Auckland, often known as the Metropolis of Sails, is New Zealand's largest and most populous city. It is situated on New Zealand's North Island and is noted for its vibrant cultural and gastronomic scene. Climb the Auckland Harbor Bridge for spectacular vistas of this lovely city.
3. Queenstown.
Queenstown is located on New Zealand's South Island and is recognized as the ultimate adrenaline and adventure resort. Queenstown is an exceptionally beautiful site, surrounded by the towering peaks of the Southern Alps and right on the banks of deep-blue Lake Wakatipu.
One of the greatest ways to take in the surroundings is to go for a swim in Lake Wakatipu.
2. Tongariro National Park.
Tongariro, New Zealand's first national park, is recognized for its shocks and contrasts. Calm lakes, active volcanoes, herb meadows, untamed forests, and desert-like plateaus are among the park's various habitats.

Fiordland National Park is one of New Zealand's most beautiful places. You can go on great hikes, fish for trout, or take a trip on the stunning fjords (called sounds here) in the South Island's south-western region. Milford Sound is Fiordland's most popular feature, and it is a real fjord formed by a glacier.
You may witness waterfalls, appreciate sheer rock walls towering above the ocean, and even see wildlife like dolphins and penguins on a trip in Milford Sound.
