Blue Lake The Blue Lake in a volcanic crater in Mount Gambier is a stunning sight from December to March when it turns a vibrant cobalt blue. There are several viewing areas you can drive to around the lake and a 3.6-kilometre walking track around the edge.

Engelbrecht Cave The guided tour of Engelbrecht Cave takes 45 minutes, and you will learn all about the early history of the cave and see the unique dry cave formations. You will also see where qualified cave divers can explore the secret tunnels in the crystal-clear water.

Amazing world heritage listed caves and fossil site in South Australia. Naracoorte Caves National Park has several amazing caving experiences on offer catering to a range of budgets and ages. Including an amazing little museum at the information centres foyer. You can even camp and stay a few days to enjoy all the experiences.
We take a look around one of the caves here called stick tomatoe cave, a self guided tour and check out the museum, and we step back in time and explore life in ancient Australia as the amazing animatronics bring this setting to life

We really enjoyed the guided cave our at Naracoorte Caves, if you are without kids we would recommend exploring one of the larger caves, however the Alexandra Cave was still beautiful and was great to learn the history.

The Naracoorte Caves in South Australia are World Heritage listed and one of the world’s most important fossil sites. There are 28 caves in the National Park, and four are open to the public for self-guided, guided and adventure caving tours.
You can view the interesting displays at the Visitor Centre, explore the Wonambi Fossil Centre and Fossil Hunters Playground and wander around the Roof Top Loop Walk.
Other facilities include the Cave Cafe, BBQs, Picnic Tables, Toilets, Camping Ground and a large carpark suitable for motorhomes, buses and caravans.

We viewed the Alexandra Cave, Stick-Tomato Cave and the Wonambi Fossil Centre. Other tours available are the Victoria Fossil Cave and Blanche Cave Bat Tour.

The Alexandra Cave tour takes 30 minutes, and you are guided through three beautiful chambers, where you will see stalactites, stalagmites, and columns. The guide discusses how the caves were formed and the region's geology.
Stick-Tomato Cave
You can explore Stick-Tomato Cave on a leisurely self-guided tour through two chambers to see robust columns and stalactites. The first chamber has lovely natural light filtering through, and the second is dark and mysterious, with automated lighting.
Wonambi Fossil Centre
The Wonambi Fossil Centre recreates a time when megafauna roamed the world. Palaeontologists have been studying the fossils and bones in the caves for over 40 years. They have identified 130 species of mammals, amphibians, reptiles and birds, and you can learn about them here.

#caravanaustralia #greynomadsaustralia #campingdestinations This week we are caving at Naracoorte Caves and camping in the onsite campgrounds, we did the Stick Tomato Cave and Alexandra Cave, totally enjoyed this place, Naracoorte is a lovely old town with lots of old buildings and churches, and the best caravan car wash, then we headed down to Penola for a night, what a little surprise package this town was!! not our favourite campgrounds but a great little town.
