So where exactly do Amtrak trains go in the United States? This video is an in-depth look at where Amtrak can take you, and how you can use Amtrak and its connecting services to get around America.
To get around America and travel between the cities on this map, sometimes it’s a single ride on one train and sometimes it isn’t. Most importantly, there’s no coast-to-coast service. So if you want to travel from, say, New York to Los Angeles, you’ll have to transfer. Most transfers between the east and the west part of the country are done in Chicago, which is a major Amtrak hub. You can also transfer in New Orleans.
The best way to figure out exactly how to get from place to place on Amtrak is to let them decide. When you buy tickets on the Amtrak website, you just put in your starting and ending points and it will give you whatever options there are. Often there aren’t really as many options as you’d think, assuming you want as few transfers as possible. For example, despite all the Amtrak lines in the northeast, there’s only one direct route between Boston and Chicago, and only two between New York and Chicago.
Speaking of the northeast, this is arguably the best-served area of the United States. Compared to other parts of the country, quite a few shorter and more specialized routes exist here. So you can take the Keystone Service between New York and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; or the Pennsylvanian between New York and Pittsburgh. The Downeaster goes between Boston and Brunswick, Maine. From New York, the Adirondack and Maple Leaf take you to Montreal and Toronto, respectively. So, if you’re traveling around the northeast on Amtrak, you’re fairly well covered.
What if you want to go from Washington DC to Denver? In this case you’ll need two trains, either the Cardinal or the Capitol Limited to Chicago, and then the California Zephyr to Denver.
Now, while there are a lot of major and some not-so-major cities on this map, and thus ways to travel between them on Amtrak, there are obviously some gaps. We already saw how Amtrak doesn’t even enter Wyoming or South Dakota at all, and other states like New Hampshire, Tennessee, and Delaware just barely. And what about major destinations Amtrak *does* go, like Atlanta? Only one route passes through Atlanta, the Crescent. That means there’s no easy way to get between Atlanta and… Chicago, or Florida, or Nashville. New Orleans and Washington DC, those are pretty much your only options from Atlanta. In fact Amtrak doesn’t go anywhere near Nashville. Nor does it go to Phoenix, or Las Vegas, or Boise or Twin Falls, or Augusta Maine. And on and on.
The good news is that Amtrak partners with various transportation services, usually buses, around the country to provide access to many more destinations. This map, which is on the Amtrak website, shows these connecting routes in green. Amtrak calls them Thruway services. This is how you can fill in a lot of the gaps in Amtrak’s main train routes, and get to Las Vegas, or to Phoenix, or Montgomery Alabama, or Sarasota, or Nashville, or way up through Wisconsin and Michigan. This is how you explore more of Oregon and Colorado, and Kentucky and Ohio… and yes, how you can use Amtrak to move around the great state of Wyoming.
See you on the rails!

Day Trip to Rockwall 🪨 (FULL EPISODE) S10 E5
You may think you know Rockwall, and that might just be as a fancy suburb of Dallas, but it's more complex than that. This town on the banks of Lake Ray Hubbard has new surprises around every corner.
This museum is housed in the oldest residential home in town — and it’s more than just a treasure trove of local artifacts. It’s also the place where you can learn about the real and very mysterious rock wall, which has some controversy about how it got there or where it came from. See what’s left of this seemingly man-made historic wall that stretches down 80 feet into the ground outside the museum.
If the last destination was the most historic, than this just might be the most futuristic house in town… even if it was built in the 1960s. This space ship-looking circular house was one of the few popular “Futuro Houses” that actually made it to market during the 1960s, when this modern style was created. And though now it’s only a shell of a building, I bet your imagination will run wild with the sci-fi possibilities of this place.
You might be surprised to find that the local favorite burger joint is actually a converted garage! It’s got none of the those frilly things like fries, tables and waitstaff — but what it does have is some of the best flavorful and greasy burgers you’ll find. Order yours with the homemade jalapeno relish, grab a coke and some chips and enjoy your burger nearby at Harry Myers Park (because it’s actually illegal to eat on the property.)
Just off the square is an upscale restaurant serving more than just your average Texan eats. Chef Mat of the Culinary Institute of America cooks up delicious fresh plates with global influences to create something super special, like rolled pork tacos with ancho BBQ Sauce.
And just like nothing is quite what it seems in this town, the local gravel and turf company has built a golf course behind their lot in a corn field. True, it’s only 9-holes and par 3, but that doesn’t mean it’s not still hours of fun!
The Rockwall Harbor is a happening place! Whether you’re taking sailing lessons with the North Texas Sailing School, hopping on a yacht at the Rush Creek Yacht Club or catching a concert on a summer night, this spot has something for everyone, and an incredible view of Lake Ray Hubbard.

Catskill Mountain Bluestone, Scenic Ride Hunter to Palenville NY Catskill Escarpment Schoharie Creek
#CatskillMountain Bluestone, Scenic Ride #Hunter to Palenville NY #CatskillEscarpment #SchoharieCreek #TroutFishing
The Catskill Escarpment, often referred to locally as just the Escarpment or the Great Wall of Manitou,[1] and known as the Catskill Front to geologists, is the range forming the northeastern corner of the Catskill Mountains in Greene and Ulster counties in the U.S. state of New York. It rises very abruptly from the Hudson Valley to summits above 3,000 feet (910 m) in elevation, including three of the Catskill High Peaks, with almost no foothills. The plateau to the south and west averages 2,000 feet (610 m) above sea level.
The Escarpment was the first area of the Catskills to attract the interest of European settlers. Botanist John Bartram wrote a widely read account of an expedition there prior to independence, and a century later the North-South Lake area he had visited became home to a number of exclusive resorts, including the Catskill Mountain House. Views of it inspired Thomas Cole and other painters of the Hudson River school, the first art movement in the United States. Today much of it is New York State Forest Preserve within the Catskill Park, and a popular place for hiking, camping and other outdoor recreation.

Babcock Ranch Art Show in America's first solar powered city!
My name is Evan Reinheimer. I am a full time artist and I travel the world using a kite to lift my camera into the sky to create unique aerial photographs. This technique is called Kite Aerial Photography. I exhibit & sell my artwork at outdoor art festivals across the USA.
In this video I travel to the first solar powered city in America to exhibit my artwork at the Babcock Ranch Art Show in Florida. The Babcock Ranch Art Show is produced by ArtFest Fort Myers, a group which has a longstanding record of producing a top tier art festival in Fort Myers, Florida. Special thanks to Sharon McAllister & Kirk Woodbury from Art Fest Fort Myers for taking the time to speak with me in this video.
