Welcome to Muskegon, Michigan - a quick 3 - 4 hour road trip (depending on how bad of traffic you hit along the way) from Chicagoland area! We technically stayed for 2 days but the vlog focuses entirely on one day .
the second day was spent at Michigan's Adventure- which is currently running a halloween special called Tricks and Treats. Our full detailed video of the park and event can be seen here:
We stayed at DreamStay's Scenic Drive Resort, a beautiful little cottage situated right along Lake Michigan .. best part is, it comes with its very own private beach. We spent a good portion of our evening just sitting and relaxing at the beach. Bonfires are allowed so make sure you bring your own firewood and enjoy the sounds of the lake!
visit: (search for scenic drive resort, we stayed in cottage #4 .. they have a total of 7 units to pick from), ours was great as it was nearest to the beach entrance.
we created a detailed video of the cottage we stayed at as well! link can be seen here:
We also visited downtown muskegon, a nice spot to grab some food, shop and just walk around! during our visit the city was having the Irish Festival (Michigan's largest Irish festival) which was fun for all ages!
We grabbed some amazing Mexican cuisine which was served from a food truck.. one of the best Mexican food we have had! check out Taqueria Agaves

Overall, it was an amazing trip, the family had a great time! Thanks #visitmuskegon and #dreamstay for an amazing trip!

Exploring Michigan, Muskegon State Park, Blockhouse
The Muskegon State Park consists of 1,233 acres of land. 3 miles of shoreline including 2 on a sandy Lake Michigan beach. 12 miles of hiking trails that I hope to traverse one day.
This was a spur of the moment stop on a long trip down the west coast. The blockhouse really caught my eye so I just had to jump out and look around. This video is quite short from far more interruptions than I thought would be about. Joggers and loud chainsaws were abundant after I got to the top of the dune. Either way, this was an important stop to me.
The blockhouse has an incredibly odd history. It was built in 1933 - 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and Civil Works Administration. This structure is typically used as a defensive fortification with windows for easy sight lines against enemy troops. It was never used for this purpose. Instead, the blockhouse was designed as a land mark in the area.
I could not walk up inside the blockhouse. It was locked and there were security cameras on every corner. I thought it was a bit odd, but after some research it turns out that there is a history of vandalism at this site. In 1962 a group of vandals burned the building down simply out of boredom. It was rebuilt in 1964. In 1990 another arson attempt was foiled. It was determined that if the park intended to keep the building it should no longer look like the grey, black, aged eyesore it was. Thus, the beautiful yellow, wooden blockhouse stands at the highest point in the park.
These videos are dedicated to the beautiful state of Michigan and are my way of preserving its beauty.
