This is a short video of the beautiful view of Murten, Switzerland in summer from the castle of Morat (Murton). The small medieval town of Murten is located in the canton Freiburg.
Murten is a wonderful location to visit for the weekend in Switzerland, if you are looking for activities like swimming, roller skating, surfing (yes, you can surf in Switzerland). Just make sure you visit the Murten Castle from year 1755. The boattours in Murtenlake, (Murtensee, Lac de Morat) offer you a wonderful combination of a view of the city, lake, the Jura and the Swiss Alps.

Murten also includes the formerly independent communities of Altavilla (incorporated in 1991), Burg (1975), Büchslen (2013), Courlevon , Jeuss , Lurtigen , Salvenach (all 2016), Gempenach , Galmiz and the former Bernese town of Clavaleyres (all 2022).
Murten forms the regional cultural and economic center of the northern part of the canton. The medieval Zähringer town with a ring wall from the 13th to 17th centuries and a historic old town of national importance is located on Lake Murten, which is named after it , and was the scene of the Battle of Murten .

Switzerland is a country famous for its breath taking scenery and epic natural beauty. But have you ever wondered about its charming medieval towns? There's so much more to Switzerland than just its ski resorts and mountain peaks. Like any other countries in Europe, this alpine region has also its share of beautiful medieval towns.
Medieval towns in Switzerland are like stepping into a fairy-tale. With their cobblestone streets, ancient architecture, and picturesque surroundings, they will definitely transport you back to ancient times. From the picturesque lake towns to the fortified hilltop villages, every town is a gem in its own right. And as I took a closer look at each town, I realized that every one of them has its own special something that sets it apart from the rest. They're a treasure trove of history, culture, and architecture, waiting to be explored. And trust me, you won't be disappointed.
In this video, I'll take you on a virtual journey to two stunning medieval towns, showcasing their unique features, history, and legends. One is the Vufflens-le-Château near Lake Geneva and other is the medieval town of Murten near Lake Neuchâtel. Please let me know in the comment section that which one you liked the most.
Vufflens-le-Château is a municipality in the Swiss canton of Vaud, located in the district of Morges.
The mighty building, built at the beginning of the 15th century for Henri de Colombier, sits majestically on a hill above Morges and Lake Geneva. This Castle is listed as a Swiss heritage site of national significance. The entire area around Vufflens-le-Château is part of the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites.
Murten remains a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts. The town's medieval walls and towers are incredibly well-preserved, giving visitors a glimpse into a bygone era. It has just under 8500 inhabitants, so statistically speaking it is not a town. That would require 10,000 inhabitants. However, Emperor Frederick II proclaimed Murten a “free imperial city” as early as 1218. The town is also considered an important cultural and economic center in the canton of Fribourg. It is best known for its historic old town, which is surrounded by a circular wall, and the Battle of Murten.
