Spot 1: Shirakawa-go Shirakawa-go has been designated as a world heritage site by UNESCO because of the traditional Japanese homes called Gasshou-zukuri. It is fascinating how homes and nature at Shirakawa-go blend in with each other so beautifully. Slip back in time to experience old Japan by spending a night at a gasshou-zukuri guest house and trying some traditional Doburoku sake.
Spot 2: Takayama City (Jinya/Nakabashi) The city of Takayama is known for its historical buildings, traditional crafts and hot springs. Experience walking through the Edo period by taking a stroll on Sanmachi-dori, an old-styled street. The red Nakabashi bridge over the Miyakawa river is a symbol of Takayama city. The place is also well-known for cherry blossom viewing. Takayama Jinya, which served as a city hall back in the Edo period is a recommended photo spot.
Food: Hida Beef Burger The Hida Beef Burger has a 100% beef patty made from Hida Beef, a brand of Japanese beef from Gifu prefecture. The steak-styled texture and umami flavor will surely satisfy your palette. This is one of the famous local dishes of Takayama. Lose yourself in umami flavored Hida beef.
