Yegyi Market, Ayeyarwady Region, Myanmarin 4K
Yegyi is one of the townships towns in Ayeyarwady Region in Myanmar. it is about 86 kilometres northeast of Pathein. I have been to Yegyi a long long time ago. I have not had train travel in Myanmar for a long time.
We have one and a half hour to explore Yegyi during our visit.
Yegyi is a peaceful town in Ayeyarwady Division. There are many shops and we can get most goods from here. Most Myanmar shop early in the morning to get fresh meats and vegetables.
There are many tea shops in most markets in Myanmar. Tea shops have been a long-standing part of Myanmar’s cultural history.
Tea shops are not just where people go to get good cheap food, people go for all matters of life. People meet with friends, tease each other, tell some jokes, gossiping, discussion about what’s going on locally and in the world.

Inle Lake - Naung Shwe, Myanmar. The less explored beautiful tourist destination. Burma (English)
Inle Lake - Naung Shwe, Myanmar. The less explored beautiful destination. Burma
Inle lake is the second largest lake of Myanmar. Rich in flora and fauna it is a biosphere reserve. The lake is famous for its beauty, the floating gardens, Intha fishermen, Full moon festival, Lotus stem textiles, Mulberry Umbrellas, Long nech females, Seagulls, Silversmiths, Blacksmiths, Carved goods, Tasty Shan food, Lake pagoda and Submerged houses and shops. It's complete world in its own.
It is one of the most beautiful tourist destinations and yet can be covered in minimum budget. :)
Naung Shwe boasts of hot air balloon rides too..but that is slightly expensive. :(

3 Days 3 Nights in Myanmar
Burma or Myanmar? Let me answer this question. Burma is the old name of Myanmar which was officially changed in 1989. In that year, the military run government took power and changed the country’s name as a movement to include all ethnic groups while still retaining Burmese culture. However, some people still call it Burma, especially the older generations. And if there’s anywhere in Myanmar that feels frozen in time, it’s Bagan. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site which was inscribed last year, a quarter of a century after this complex of Buddhist temples had first been nominated. The sacred landscape here houses more than 3,500 surviving stupas, temples, monasteries, fortifications and other structures dating from the 9th to the 13th centuries. The overall architecture really reflects the strength of religious devotion of an early Buddhist empire. Moreover, as we dive into Myanmar tourism, a name which we will undoubtedly hear is Aung San Suu Kyi. She is one of the main politicians credited with helping to weaken the military’s power in Myanmar. She has proved with her actions to people the great power of non-violence, kindness, love, courage, and persistence. For all her efforts, she won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991. Although she was being placed under house arrest for over 15 years, she now holds the position of State Counsellor which is similar to the Prime Minister in other parts of the world.
During the trip, I visited some tourism spots such as Nyaung-U, Old Bagan, New Bagan, Shwezigon Pagoda, Htilominlo Temple, Ananda Temple, Thatbyinnyu Temple, Shwesandaw Pagoda, Dhammayangyi Temple, Sulamani Temple, Sulamani Manmade Sunset Hill, Bupaya Pagoda, Tharabar Gate, Irrawaddy River, Naypyidaw, Kyaiktiyo Pagoda (Golden Rock Pagoda), Kyaik Htee Yoe Mountain, Kinpun, Kyaikto, Yangon, Yangon's Chinatown, Aung Mingalar Bus Station, 19th Street, Shwedagon Pagoda, Sule Pagoda, Mahabandoola Park, Rosewood Yangon, Old Tourist Burma Building, Mya Nandar, Yangon Custom House, Myanma Port Authority, Kyauktada Post Office, Central Fire Station, UFC Tower, Pansodan Road, and Strand Road. I had my breakfast, lunch, tea time, dinner, and supper at many different places such as Baw Ga Noodle House, Rangoon Tea House, Chinatown 125 Café, Win Restaurant, Kosan Double Happiness Bar, and Mogok Noodle Bar. All the places I visited were the best so far.
The local foods and drinks which are filled with flavor and unique spices that are central to Burmese culture like Sugar Palatar, Shan Noodles, Mohinga, Rice Pancake, Si Lone Tea, Steamed Chicken Vermicelli Soup, Burmese Sweet Pork Curry, Burmese Mixed Rice, Myanmar Beer, Mandalay Rum Mojito, and Shanghai Mule. All of them are super good.
Although it’s my first time visiting the country, I was not disappointed at all. This time, I only visited Bagan, Mount Kyaiktiyo, and Yangon. The silhouette of the pagodas in the distance contrasted against the yellow sun was definitely a highlight of my trip to Bagan. When I look back to my trip to Bagan, I often reminisce about the e-bikes and the fantastic, fun and intrepid adventures they enabled me to have. Whether we choose to spend our time in Bagan, this charming land promises to fill us with peace and leave us with memories that will last a lifetime. Moreover, during my Myanmar trip, I felt perfectly safe and welcomed the entire time. Therefore, I really urge you to go and see this country for yourself. For myself, hopefully I’ll be back again to cover other cities in Myanmar. Yeah!

40 Day 2 on the Road to Mandalay from Meiktila, Myanmar (Burma)
We Said Go Travel October 24, 12 Honey Hotel has issues, trash around the lake, unidentifiable food but friendly staff! My suggestions for this hotel: clean up the hallway, stairwells, and rooms especially the refrigerator. I did not included the video of the moldy dirty refrigerator but really if you are going to have one. You have to clean it. Adding a choice at breakfast like different types of eggs, fruit and clearing a path to the Lake would all be good improvements.
We tried to wander around the lake. I think a promenade around the lake would do wonders. Lonely Planet says you can bike around the lake but then again they said ask for room G2 in a building that seems long gone. Not sure the Lonely Planet reporters have been here in decades.
We did not see the British officers quarters where Aung San Suu Kyi and husband honeymooned. We did see many pagodas, monks asking for alms and school children in green longyi uniforms.
We walked to the main road from the guesthouse in about six minutes, we stopped after we crossed the street and instantly there was a bus. We said, Mandalay. They said, yes, so we hopped on. At first it seemed far too crowded but I jumped over a motorbike and there were two seats in the last row.
Within about ten minutes many of the passengers got off and we wondered if we were going to the Meiktila bus station but we zoomed on. We got on the bus around 9:30am and arrived at the Mandalay station 12:30pm. We had one stop for food around 11am but we were not hungry so we just waiting and stretched our legs.
There were many stupas, fields and tollbooths along the way. Road construction is a big priority and I was told that private companies are doing the building and they can charge tolls. If they try to overcharge, they will lose their right to the route.
Back at ET Guesthouse, the man at the desk seemed surprised when I said, Do you need the passports? We were here three weeks ago. I think now that the Air Asia route is open from Mandalay to Bangkok; they will start to see more repeat guests. Unless people do the route like us like and fly into Yangon and out of Mandalay.
George told me today we have spent about $1300usd in 27 days(not including our flights). We changed $680 to kyat. My dumb money move was trying to open PayPal in Myanmar. It is a sanctioned country for PayPal. I cannot believe I am in Paypal Jail AGAIN on this trip!

Meiktila Memories.wmv
Meiktila is a city in Central Burma. It was founded by the legendary Bagan king Anawrahta and named after Indian legendary king Janaka's capital Mithila. It is famous for its lake (11 km X 1 km) dug by Anawrahta in 1054 AD to provide relief for the city's arid climate. Today it has a large airforce base. Our father practised law from Meiktila (he was an advocate of Rangoon High Court), till 1940. My older brother Mohan was born here. We could locate his birthplace.

39 Local bus from Inle Lake to Meiktila, Myanmar (Burma)
We Said Go Travel October 23, 2012 We wanted to travel during the day from Inle Lake to Mandalay. They kept saying, no to us. There is only the evening bus from Inle Lake to Mandalay 10,000K per person with air conditioning. But we knew there had to be a way to go during the day and without air con.
We left Golden Empress Hotel by Tuk Tuk around 10am for a surprising 35min ride to the junction for 6000K. We did not think it would be so far but it was. Immediately as we crossed the street a man said to us, Meiktila? We said yes, and were offered 5000K each for the middle row of the back of the truck or 8000K per person for the front seat. They shoved our bags under the seats on the dusty floor, we climbed in and we were nearly off by quarter to eleven.
It was definitely the milk run and we stopped many times to add more people, let people off, get betel nut, water, oranges all sorts of things. At one point an additional seven young men threw their large carry sacks in the back and all climbed ontop of the bus with the large satchels of green beans.
We went through Kalaw and stopped for lunch somewhere but we only got butter bread roles and soy beans. I went to a grimy outhouse but at least it was there. I loved the fields of rice and corn and all the oxen. Coming down the steep hills we had to stop half way and water the tires. I found a truck with a tire that seemed to be on its last day. We got to Thaza and knew we were close. We saw a beautiful sunset over a lake and thought we made it but we kept going.
At the bus station in Miektila, they offered us 1000K per person for motorbike or 3000K for 2 in a tuk tuk as it was 1km we decided to walk. We saw the clock tower and the mosque. We found Lekker Corner which we came back to for dinner (Thai and Chinese food). A nice man on a motorbike helped us find the right street and we saw both $25 and $35 rooms. The pricier ones have TV and refrigerator; there is only wifi in the lobby. We looked at two rooms and were not so impressed as the $35 had such a dirty floor. I asked for room G2 as the Lonely Planet suggested but that building does not exist anymore. George looked at two more rooms and found #202. After we dusted off our bags, we opened the refrigerator and saw how disgusting dirty it was. There is another hotel in this city but not in town. This would be our most expensive night in our 27 days in Myanmar.
Aung San Suu Kyi had her honeymoon here in this town but I think not in this hotel.
Bus to Mandalay: one company one bus leaves at 11:30pm, and arrives 4am Another company: 5am bus to Mandalay Front desk at the hotel suggested to take a mini bus at 8am, 9am, 10am, or noon. Breakfast was available from 7-10am inside or outside as you wish. Honey Hotel, Maung Maung, Panchan Street, Meiktila, 064-23588

Mandalay a wonderful city
Come and travel the world with us
We were up early, although it really is a city roosters crowing too early here. But that would not work, then there is always the church bells and mosque. The church bells we could not miss, stood beside the Sacred Heart Cathedral our hotel.

Royal City Hotel, Mandalay, Myanmar (Burma) #HotelReviews
Another surprise in Mandalay. We were directed to this hotel from an overloaded guesthouse recommended by Lonely Planet guide... and guess what... this hotel again was cheaper than LP favourite guesthouse! The standard was much more than I expected before traveling to Myanmar. Ok, maybe it is a little bit old and not 'modern' but this is how whole country looks like. The most important thing is that it is clean, safe, has AC, fan, beddings, towels, free water and clean bathroom. The room we got is the only room without a bathroom so you have to use the shared one... however as all other rooms have the bathrooms it means that no one apart from you is using shared one :) Another advantage of it is the price which is about 30% cheaper than all the others. Good deal. Located 5min walk from train station and couple of minutes from Royal Palace. Really nice and helpful staff. Breakfast included! Another proof not to follow blindly LP recommendations! If you are going to stay couple of days in Mandalay with a budget price forget guesthouses, chose this hotel! Recommended!
The Motorcycle Diaries: 2 Bikers and Their Journey Through Myanmar
Until a few years ago, crossing Myanmar overland with your own vehicle was prohibited. It took some enterprising individuals to sort out the paperwork and convince their governments to open the border and allow travellers to enter.
But things are a little bit easier now. Two bikers, Jay Kannaiyan and Noel, did just that and rode through Myanmar en-route to Thailand on two Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycles. They catalogued their journey on video and in photographs.
