Samburu - The Best Northern Kenya Safari Destination
Do we always camp and visit remote places only, you might ask? Not always.
Sometimes we desire some little luxury and decide to go an splurge a little. 😁 Sometimes we visit well-known places in-as-much as we love remote travel, adventure travel and off-grind travel where we have to carry everything we need.
This was a trip we did in October 2022 when rains were pounding the country and everything looked lush and green. Just before we took off to the 2,400kms Jade Sea Expedition.
We had an epic time at Samburu and Buffalo Springs seeing the Samburu Special Five and being pampered at the Elephant Bedroom, a place we would recommend 100%.

Discover Northern Kenya: A Scenic Roadtrip From Samburu to Marsabit Town
Hey there fellow travelers! Have you ever been to Northern Kenya? Well, you're in for a treat because in today's video, we'll be taking you on a scenic roadtrip from Samburu to Marsabit Town.
To start our adventure, we'll be heading out of Samburu National Reserve. As we hit the road, we'll be passing through various small towns and villages, and we'll have to be careful of livestock crossing the road. The scenery is already breathtaking, with the Ewaso Nyiro river running alongside us and the mountains in the background.
As we continue our journey, we'll come across some unique rock formations that have been there for thousands of years. These formations are not only awe-inspiring, but they also tell a story of geological changes that have happened over the ages.
Next up is Marsabit National Park, which is a wildlife haven. The park is home to some of the rarest species of animals, including the Grevy's zebra, Somali ostriches, and the reticulated giraffe. You will be amazed by the park's scenery, which is a mix of desert, lush greenery, and craggy mountains.
After enjoying the sights of Marsabit National Park, we'll be heading towards Lake Turkana. On the way, be prepared to see some of the most fantastic views in the world, with Lake Turkana at the forefront. It's a sight to behold and one you can never forget.
Do you love adventure? Well, we have some good news for you. On our way to Marsabit Town, we will pass a small town known as Kalacha. Here, you can take part in some off-road adventures and experience adrenaline-pumping activities like camel rides, hiking, and rock-climbing.
As we get closer to Marsabit Town, the scenery changes, and you can clearly see the difference in the landscape. The town is situated on top of a mountain, which gives you an incredible view of the surrounding areas. You also get to interact with the local communities here and learn about the Marsabit culture.
Marsabit Town is also known for its unique lake known as Lake Paradise. This lake is largely unknown, and few visitors have been there. It's a beautiful crater lake situated at the bottom of Mount Marsabit, and the water is crystal clear, giving it a scenic view that is hard to miss.
If you're interested in more sights and sounds, then we highly recommend the Marsabit National Reserve. The reserve is well-known for its elephant population, and you might be lucky enough to see them in their natural habitat. The tranquility of the reserve gives you a break from the hustle and bustle of city life.
As we come to the end of our adventure, we recommend indulging in some of the local dishes around Marsabit Town. The people here are incredibly hospitable, and you'll easily make friends. Don't miss out on trying some of the local delicacies like nyiri nyiri which is a meat dish prepared with spices and grilled over a fire.

I camped right next to the racing camels at Yare Camel Club during this year's International Maralal Camel Derby.
Residents stranded after road to Maralal swept away
Residents of Sunrise village in Samburu central sub county are forced to walk more than ten kilometers to reach Maralal town after a two kilometer road that connected the village to the town was swept away in a landslide and soil erosion as a result of rain floods that are on going in the area.
