Sur la carte, Mananjary est séparée en deux du nord au sud par le Canal de Pangalanes, survolé par deux ou trois ponts et passerelles. Côté Océan Indien, une bande de terre sableuse qui sétend jusqu'à l'hôtel où j'ai rendez-vous, c'est l'un des derniers, tout au Nord de la ville côtière.La végétation luxuriante, la présence de l'eau et des arbres, de la forêt. Jusqu'au croisement à Irondro, les montagnes se découvrent, elles se laissent contempler à chaque détour de la route, vues majestueuses enveloppées de la chaleur de midi. A Irondro, je fais une pause parmi les enfants malicieux qui m'entourent pour me vendre leurs bananes, mangues, fruits découpés en saumure ou dans du vinaigre dans des bouteilles d'eau réutilisées. Deux cafés et de l'eau. Quelques petites bananes, des « Ranjalia ». Il reste soixante kilomètres avant d'arriver à Mananjary.
Ali me propose de partir en bateau tout à l'heure et de remonter jusqu'à l'embouchure de la Mananjary pour assister au retour des pêcheurs. J'accepte volontiers. Il partent vers quatre heures du matin affronter l'Océan Indien qui est dangereux sur cette côte de Madagascar. (...)

On vacation in Madagascar we took 2day boat trip on the Canal des Pangalanes. We started in Mahanoro and sailed to Nosy Varika to stay the night. The next day we took of and sailed to mananjary. We visited some villages on this very nice boat trip.Quote from wikipedia:

Since there were no direct roads between Mananjary and Ambohitsara we did as the locals, took the ferry on the waterways parallel to the coastline of Madagascar, the Pangalanes Channel. No long hours on the motorbikes today. Neverteless it turned out to be a great adventure ride and a great opportunity to watch the life along the waterways.Ambohitsara is the only place in Madagascar where you can see an elephant. To add to the mystery the legend says it comes from Mecca.

The Zebu Market of Ambalavao, Madagascar
We drove for another couple of hours into an area that was much drier, with less vegetation and old rounded mountains. It was a very interesting looking area. Then we came to the city of Ambalavao where we pulled up to a restaurant to pre-order our lunch. Then we got back into the van and drove to the zebu market. This place was amazing. It is the second largest cattle market in the country. It is held every Wednesday and people come from miles around to buy and sell zebu. We parked on the outside of the market and Patrick told us to just walk in, watch out of the animals as they are unpredictable and get to a small brick wall. He said if we climb up that we could get a really good 360 degree view. It was amazing and chaotic.
