7 Things NOT To Do in The Ivory Coast

Cote d'Ivoire or Ivory Coast is located on the west coast of Africa and is not at all what you'd expect from a sub-Saharan desert country. It is the most bio-diverse country in west-Africa and has beautiful coastlines, mountains, ruins, forests, and even a cathedral. In 60 years of independence from the French, it has suffered civil wars, military coups, and shady elections but is now enjoying a certain, if vulnerable, stability. Even so, there are some things to bear in mind before traveling. Here are 7 Things NOT To Do In Ivory Coast!

1. Money
Don't forget to bring cash as well as your visa card. although in large towns and cities ATMs are available they are generally unreliable and often have very long queues. Be sure to have euros or USD on you, which you can change into West African Francs as needed. If you change money with money changers always exchange small amounts, know the exchange rate and check the notes carefully!

2. Don't go in the summer!
Though it may seem like a good idea to go on holiday in the summer. Ivory coast's rainy season starts in June and runs through to October. In this season National parks tend to be closed and roads can be washed out or impassable making travel a lot more complicated.

3. Don't forget to get a visa!
To be able to travel to Ivory coast, you need a visa! getting it upon arrival isn't possible so you need to make sure you get it beforehand. You can apply for it at your nearest Ivorian consulate via mail, or in person, or if you're planning on visiting neighboring countries you can apply for it in one of Ivory coast's embassies there. Bear in mind that it will take at least a few days so it could be that you're stuck in that country waiting for your visa.

4. Don't expect cheap accommodation!
Don't expect hostels or Airbnb or guesthouses, the main form of accommodation in Ivory coast is small to medium-sized hotels, which you won't have to book in advance but you can expect to pay first-world prices for third world service.

5. Don't forget to learn un peu de Francais!
There isn't a traveler's scene in Ivory coast, aside from french package tour visitors, the majority of tourism is local and therefore not many people speak English. French is the native tongue so be sure to learn some basics that could get you out of a situation difficile!

6. Don't forget your Passport!
Always carry your passport or at least a copy of the visa page and the photo page. There are a lot of checkpoints on the road and you'll be expected to show your passport and sometimes asked to exit your vehicle and talk to the police. be polite and compliant to avoid any hassle.

7. Don't expect it to be easy!
If you're traveling to Ivory coast independently, don't expect it to be easy. West Africa isn't like South Africa, it's less developed, rougher, and has fewer amenities. you can expect challenges, complications, and for things to go wrong. It won't be relaxing or easy, it will, however, be fun!

IVORY COAST: Man to Yamoussoukro to Abidjan. ONLY PROBLEMS! // EPS 14

Overland traveling is always full of surprises - good ones, and bad ones. Mostly it’s about exploring foreign countries and cultures - but sometimes the challenges you meet on the road need nearly all your attention. Here is what happened in Côte D’Ivoire:

My travel partner had the worst crash of the journey so far: A local motorcyclist crossed his way and he fell when breaking - his side pannier crashing on his ankle. He was stuck under his motorcycle until I lifted it up. The next days we were trying to rush to Abidjan as fast as possible to get him to a proper hospital because his ankle was swollen on twice the size. From the city Man we drove to the capital of Ivory Coast: Yamoussoukro. After a short visit of Notre Dame de Yamoussoukro we continued to Abidjan - where my travel partner decided that he is fine again and doesn't need to get to the hospital anymore. But another challenge was waiting for us: The tires we had sent from Europe were lost by DHL and we had to find new rear tires for our big motorcycles in Abidjan. Watch the episode to find out if we managed and join some sighseeing to St. Paul's cathedral and a rubber tree plantation!

Is it worth Visiting Man in Ivory Coast? Things to see in Man #ivorycoast #man

After enjoying the bubbling and interesting Abidjan, I took a 10hours Ride to go see the most talked about Waterfall in Ivory Coasf le cascade the man.

Places to Visit;
Le cascade the Man : Dont visit during dry season (Febuary) best to visit in August.

Mount Toukpi! If you love hiking and enjoy a beautiful view, you can take a quick hike to the top of dent de man

The Monkey Sanctuary: Just within the city is the monkey sanctuary, one of my favourite spots. Feeding the monkey and watching them freely live is a delight to see.

Huge Waterfall - Les Cascades De Man [Day 32 in Africa - Ivory Coast]

The 20 meter height waterfall serves as a great place to cool off after a hike through the surrounding bamboo forest, with colorfull plants, butterflies, and dragonflies brightening the scenery. You can visit the waterfall at any time, although on weekends the area can get overcrowded with locals.

Hello in day 32 in Africa.
Morning started quite productive. went to bank as soon as it was open to retrieve my Bank card that was eaten by Atlantico banks ATM day before!

Felt relieved only when got card back in my hand. Security guards tried to convince me to use my card in the same ATM as night before, but I just refused as There is no promise that the machine wouldn’t get hungry once again. 😅😬

After doing all the necessary thing in bank we went to meet friend who we also met day before. He was the one who told us about the near by waterfall. It was not even 15 minutes away from place we stayed in, so of-course we wanted to take a look. He took public taxi and joined us with his girl.

Waterfall was just amazing, the sound of it was relaxing as well the view was splendid. It is sacred place and people come here to relax, get blessing, even spend their wedding day here. Would absolutely come here again. Entrance costed 200 CFA Each (0.30 x 2 )
