I got to spend Christmas back home in Kenya, and discovered some great restaurants that you should try out on your next visit to Nairobi, also got to feed giraffes at the Nairobi giraffe center, and pet baby elephants at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. TRANSCRIPT Hello everyone! We are in beautiful Uvita today, we're staying a few days at a hotel called Manoas and I'm actually here with Steve the owner who can tell us a little more about it if you're looking for a place to stay in Uvita. So Hi Steve! Thank you so much for joining us today, can you tell us a little bit about Manoas, the property, the hotel and the location?
Sure, Manoas is located just 2 kilometers up the mountain from Marino Ballena National Park, we're situated on the backside of the mountain in a nice little enclave which has a beautiful view of the river and also the mountains behind us. What's nice about the location is that we do feel like we have a private resort here but we're also a ten minute drive down to the center of Uvita and the Marino Ballena National Park.
That's great so this is definitely a special type of hotel, it's not your standard hotel so can you tell us a little bit about the different kind of rooms and luxury tents on your property?
Sure so what we aim for what we aimed for when we created Manoas was that we wanted to have different types of accommodation for different types of travelers. So what we have here is three different types of houses, different sizes that we rent out and then we also have the four luxury tents like you mentioned. The houses are a bit more fully equipped for example, they have fully air conditioned rooms, they're fully furnished kitchens and jaccuzis and they're more like your home at home.
And then we also have the safari tents which are a little bit more basic but still very nice and luxurious, what we like about the tents is that you feel like you're close with nature and you can hear all of the sounds of the jungle around you but you're also in a very comfortable environment. Each of the tents have a king size bed with high quality sheets and towels and they also have a bathroom with hot water, and so you're camping but you're not really roughing it.
That's exactly how I feel. We're staying in one of the luxury tents for a few nights and it's really comfortable, you don't have to sacrifice a lot of comfort even if you want to go camping, that's why they call it glamping: glamor camping.
So a little bit more about the property, I know that it's located near a river, do you guys have a pool or a restaurant for people to enjoy?
Yes absolutely so we are located on a river, actually the union of two rivers, the Uvita River and Ballena river come together and the union of the rivers can be seen from the pool deck and also our villas. What's special about the pool is that again it has the beautiful view of the river and it's a really nice place to come cool off after a nice hot day at the beach or hiking in the jungle, so the pool is a common place that our guests come to relax in the afternoons, after a long day, our guests have barbecues at the pool, birthday parties, and all sorts of activities you can do there.
We also have our cafe which is affectionately called cafe la union, named after the union of the two rivers, and that is where we serve breakfast every day, for our guests in the tents and as well by reservation for the guests in our houses. We also do provide catering to groups if you want lunch made for you or if you want a private dinner that can be done as well by reservation.
